Fab 4 for Dennis & SISIS at BTME

Fab 4 for Dennis & SISIS at BTME: Dennis and SISIS will be making their annual trip to Harrogate in January and BTME visitors can expect to see four fantastic products on display in the Red Zone on Stand 244.

Dennis Mowers recently launched a new and exciting range of mowers called the E-Series and no doubt the ES-860 cylinder mower will prove to be somewhat of a show-stopper at BTME 2020. This 34” battery powered turf management system delivers maximum versatility and the range of 13 interchangeable cassette options provide a solution to many day-to-day maintenance tasks such as cutting, scarifying, brushing, slitting and aeration.

A weather proof colour LCD programmable display keypad screen is an integral feature of the handlebar console providing the operator with a multitude of information options including ground speed, clip rate, service checks, lifetime running reports and battery information.

The ES-860 will be joined by the FT510 professional mower in representing the famous Dennis brand at BTME. When it comes to all areas of fine turf, the Dennis FT510, has for many years, been celebrated for its top performance and durability. With a 51cm working width, the FT510 provides its user with comfort, flexibility and excellent presentation. A true sense of control is obtained through the unique roller clutch drive for a smooth take-up and a variable clip rate helping to create the desired finish. Available with five-bladed and ten-bladed cutting cylinders the machine can be matched to any situation and the interchangeable cassettes can be changed without the requirement of any tools.

The range of 11 different cassettes mean that one machine can be used for several key maintenance tasks including scarifying, verticutting or brushing. This feature combined with the click height of cut adjustment system makes it extremely user friendly for its operators.

The SISIS range of pedestrian scarifiers come highly recommended by greenkeepers and course managers and the Auto Rotorake MK5 will be of particular interest at the show. This powerful self-propelled heavy duty scarifier is designed for the removal and control of thatch on fine turf and is ideally suited to a range of applications from sports field maintenance to lawns and amenities. It features a contra-rotating reel with specially designed tipped blades for clean, consistent cut and maximum thatch removal. A variety of maintenance tasks can also be carried out due to a selection of seven different interchangeable reels.

Last but certainly not least is the SISIS Flexibrush – a tractor mounted brush which is ideal for both synthetic and natural turf surfaces. Featuring a 5.35 metre working width, its brush sections ‘float’ to follow ground contours providing maximum efficiency on large areas. The SISIS Flexibrush, has proved to be an ideal solution for controlling worm casts and is also used for effectively dispersing top dressings and standing the grass up before cutting, helping to give a better cut and presentation.

Brochures containing the full portfolio of Dennis and SISIS products will be available to pick up on the stand and the company’s experienced staff will be available to answer any queries and offer valuable advice about the machinery.

Productivity from Toro at Stowmarket

Productivity from Toro at Stowmarket: As part of a significant investment project, Stowmarket Golf Club has committed to its first fleet deal with Toro and distributor Reesink Turfcare.

Stowmarket Golf Club, set in the beautiful Finborough Park in Suffolk, has long been a Toro customer, but this is the first time it has bought multiple machines together.

Productivity from Toro at Stowmarket

Matt Gill, who has been at the club since 1989 and course manager for the last 13 years, says: “We’re investing in the future of the club and Toro is very much a part of that. We’re focusing on making sure the course can stay open for play all year round. We have been making improvements, enlarging our tees, overseeding fairways and improving the drainage and pathways. Not only are we keen to ensure that our members can play all year round, but that they can play uninterrupted for as long as possible each day, which is an area where Toro is key.

“In this deal we’re replacing our existing Reelmaster 6700, a machine that has performed consistently and constantly for 11 years, ensuring we’re always ready for play by 9.30am. I wanted the continuity of Toro and although the old machine is still going strong, we demonstrated a number of five unit machines but opted for the wider machine again, ensuring minimal disruption and increasing productivity.”

As well as a new RM6700, Matt has chosen a Workman HDX-D utility vehicle with a Multi Pro 200 sprayer and Pro Pass 200 top dresser, about which Matt says: “We’ve been thinking about how to tackle the pitchmarks on a regular basis and the solution is to use the Toro Pro Pass top dresser. Since the multi-tasking Workman and top dresser arrived we’ve made great savings in the time spent applying sand and incurring much less disruption as we do it.”

Matt explains the value the new sprayer and top dresser will have maintaining the club’s recent investment in the fairways: “We’ve heavily invested in the fairways in the last two years due to the drought and it’s important we safeguard that investment. The ability to easily transform the Workman into either a utility vehicle, a precision sprayer or an effective top dresser in only 20 minutes is going to be particularly useful for that and ensuring optimum grass growth.”

Matt has been buying Toro machines for over a decade, throughout which time Toro’s longevity, productivity and value has been proved time and again. “We’ve stuck with Toro for as many years for good reason, they provide us with the productivity we need to get the job done,” he says.

“We can also vouch that Toro’s longevity is unmatched which has been a major factor in our decision. Working with Reesink, and in particular Reesink’s area manager Julian Copping over this time, has been like working with friends, that’s why we’re now making this investment with Toro in our first fleet deal. They really are the company to beat.”

PRO 34R a hit at Colliers Park

PRO 34R a hit at Colliers Park: Dylan Thompson, grounds maintenance manager at Colliers Park, believes that the Dennis PRO 34R far exceeds every other rotary mower he has used in the past.

The former Sheffield Wednesday FC assistant head groundsman has been in the top role at Colliers Park for six months now and is already making his mark. With all eyes on the FAW’s brand new development centre, Dylan and his two members of staff are helping to maintain the two natural turf pitches and the synthetic pitch to the standard expected by a national footballing body.

PRO 34R a hit at Colliers Park

The FAW left no stone unturned in the launch of Colliers Park and Dylan found himself in the fortunate position of receiving an arsenal of brand-new turf maintenance products – two of which were Dennis PRO 34R’s.

“To be honest, the PRO 34R was the machine I wanted most and this was based on my previous experience of using Dennis Mowers,” he said. “I had heard about it on social media and I spoke to other people in the industry – I heard so many good things about it and to not hear anything negative whatsoever was obviously a massive positive.”

The Dennis PRO 34R is a 34” (860mm) rotary mower which has been designed to help groundsmen achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance and desired playing surface. It is ideal for sports pitches and lawns producing the enviable ‘Dennis Stripes’ while a powerful vacuum flow collects debris quickly and efficiently.

The angle of the cutting deck and twin blades can be easily adjusted using a single ‘click adjuster’ ensuring the mower is suitable for changing conditions and meeting groundsmen’s requirements.

“It’s very impressive – I was expecting it to be good but not this good!” continued Dylan. “The clean-up is absolutely fantastic no matter if it is wet or dry and it sucks up so much into the grass collection box. It is also quick so we are saving time – we are normally going on speed setting 3 which is the perfect speed for us. We have tight turnarounds so the size of these mowers is ideal because you can get so much done in little time.

PRO 34R a hit at Colliers Park

“We try to use them after every usage but we actually use them during the week as well. It has surprised me as to how good the front brush is. If there is any dew in the morning, then it will take that straight off and it can also pick up any leaves. The finish they leave is really good and you can hardly tell the difference in cut between this and a cylinder mower.

“The PRO 34R’s are probably our most used machines and I can assure you that this isn’t just your standard rotary mower – it is far better.”

ClearWater Expansion & BTME

ClearWater Expansion & BTME: ClearWater, the leading British designed and manufactured, washpad water recycling system has become a firmly established brand name in the UK since its introduction in 2003 by Highspeed Group Ltd.

Following steady development and the start of export sales, Acumen Waste Services Ltd acquired the company in the spring of 2017. Demonstrating a commitment to the development of ClearWater, a separate ClearWater Division was set up led by General Manager Matthew Mears. Sales have since moved forward and, to enable the division to handle the extra business and expand further, ClearWater has recently taken on extra staff. The new dedicated team now comprises: Matthew Mears – General Manager, Julie Tunningley – Administration, Steve Short – Engineer, Jez Coward and Chris Burton – Field Sales. Reaping the benefits of the large parent company, Acumen Waste Services Ltd., and enhancing customer service, the team are backed up by a contingent of “Cross-Trained” Acumen staff, well versed in ClearWater. These expansion plans have seen the introduction of new marketing initiatives too with the emphasis on re-branding; an updated logo (sympathetic to Acumen branding), a new and up to date video and fresh advertising / publicity. Said Matthew Mears; “The logo may have changed but it’s the same class-leading ClearWater system. We wanted to bring the brand up to date and the new contemporary logo exemplifies this. Watch out for it on social media, exhibitions, advertising and our other marketing.”

ClearWater Expansion & BTME

ClearWater now has the opportunity with these extra resources to expand beyond the traditional, but still important, golf sector and target other markets (not always turf maintenance based).

BTME is the next exhibition for ClearWater and represents quite a landmark as this year is the 25th year at BTME since Highspeed first exhibited. BTME is seen as an important event and Acumen had no hesitation continuing attendance after acquiring Highspeed and ClearWater. Call and meet the team on the Acumen-ClearWater Stand No. 206 Red South (21st to 23rd January 2020) to see ClearWater showcased and the new video. Talk to them too about Acumen’s waste management services, hazardous waste disposal, spill products and remediation.

Export is high on the agenda too and sales to the USA golf sector, an important but notoriously difficult market to penetrate, are beginning to come to fruition. This is the result of hard work, particularly at GIS and an arrangement set up this year with Ewing Irrigation. ClearWater will be featured on Ewing’s Booth # 2838 at GIS 2020 in Orlando (29th & 30th January) and Matthew Mears will be in attendance.

A very recent export installation has been carried out in Northern Germany too at Winston Golf with Jordan Tschimperle – Course Manager overseeing the installation of a 10,000 litre ClearWater system and a large washpad. ClearWater’s German distributor Golfkontor of Hamburg was actively involved, ensuring the project was brought to fruition. For European conformity ClearWater is manufactured to EN858 standards. Approval was also gained for the project and system to meet local German regulations.

The time certainly is right to purchase a compliant system and ClearWater is the obvious choice. The system was approved as a Water Saving Technology in March 2008 and, as such, purchasers of the system (in the UK) are currently able to claim 100% of the cost of purchasing and installing the system against taxable profits in the year of purchase (Under the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) Scheme). Regrettably, however, this scheme will come to an end in April 2020; so you need to move quickly to buy and comply!
