Hydrogen technology set for international debut

Hydrogen technology set for international debut: JCB is set to showcase its super-efficient hydrogen combustion technology on the international stage for the first time ever with a debut in North America.

The wraps will come off JCB’s brand new hydrogen combustion engine – the company’s zero-carbon emissions solution for construction and agricultural equipment – at the Conexpo 2023 show in Las Vegas as part of the International Fluid Power Exposition (IFPE).

JCB Chairman Lord Bamford is leading the project to develop JCB’s hydrogen technology. He said: “The JCB engineering team has made enormous strides in a short space of time to develop a hydrogen internal combustion engine and it already powers a JCB prototype backhoe loader and a Loadall telescopic hander. As the first construction equipment company to develop a fully working combustion engine fuelled by hydrogen, I’m delighted we are now able to present this technology on the international stage.”

Leading the way in environmental, social and governance (ESG) for the construction equipment sector, JCB has been responsible for a series of industry innovations on its ‘Road to Zero’.

JCB developed the world’s first battery-electric mini excavator and has been at the forefront of electric technology development to meet customers’ demands for zero-carbon products with its E-TECH range. Today JCB has the largest electric line-up available in the construction industry and the company’s expertise in this sector will also be on show at the exhibition.

JCB’s commitment to reducing emissions goes back almost 25 years and its latest diesel engines have already delivered a 97% reduction in NOx emissions since 1999 and a 98% reduction in particulates. Today JCB’s diesel-powered machines also emit 50% less CO2 compared with those manufactured in 2010. JCB’s clean diesel engine technology will also be showcased on the stand in Las Vegas.

Henton & Chattell has always prided itself in delivering the highest levels of service for its loyal turf and ground care customers in the Midlands. The company has one of the largest after-sales and service teams dedicated to ground care machinery in the Midlands and potentially the largest parts stock holdings for turf and garden machinery, covering over 70,000 different parts lines.

Peter Chaloner stated: “H&C is looking to grow its turf and ground care business. We’ve seen good levels of success in this sector, and we are confident of future growth. Service is the key for professional and trade customers alike. We very much value our family culture at H&C, our strength is our people and I believe this shows through consistently within every aspect of our business. Commitment and dedication to go the extra mile, to help our customers makes all the difference.”

Henton & Chattell today operates from its head office in Nottingham, and has recently made a substantial investment in a 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse to facilitate its growth plans. In the near future, an additional site is planned, which will be dedicated to its turf and ground care business. Peter Chaloner explained that the new depot will be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for professional customers, offering parts, service, training and even demonstrations on their purpose-built site.

Henton & Chattell is a family owned and managed business established in 1931. A market leader in the Midlands for ground care machinery and the UK’s largest independent garden machinery and parts distributor.  The company employs over 85 colleagues and has an annual turnover of over £35m.

GreenMech QuadChip turns more than just heads

GreenMech QuadChip turns more than just heads: The two teams that make up South Wales Tree Services need fight no more over their turntable QuadChip 160P from GreenMech, as now, they have two!

So impressed with the 360o versatility and chipping performance of their first machine purchased eight years ago, Owner Alex Terry took delivery of a second unit in September 2022 improving not just efficiency but the safety of his crews when working in domestic areas.

GreenMech QuadChip turns more than just heads

Alex has run a fleet of GreenMech woodchippers since he established South Wales Tree Services in 2014, with the two QuadChip machines sitting proudly alongside a Safe-Trak 19-28 which tackles some of the larger, commercial projects. “We’ve got the versatility on our fleet to undertake jobs of all sizes, with the SAFE-Trak ideal for site clearances where we can chip on location – taking the machine to the material, and not the material to the machine” he explains.

Smaller hedge and tree works or domestic situations where access is more restricted is where the turntable feature of the QuadChip units comes into its own. “This is the main benefit for us. It means that when we arrive outside a property, we only have to turn the chipper in the desired direction – not perform any awkward manoeuvres that compromise both time and potentially the safety of my team operating in or near the road.”

GreenMech’s QuadChip 160P features powerful twin vertical feed rollers which offer exceptional pull and crushing capacity for timber and brash of up to 6”, with consistent processing quality provided by their patented Disc-Blade chipping technology. “We loved our first QuadChip which is the reason that, with demand for it on the rise, we purchased a second unit and this one is even better! The chipping performance is efficient, running off four blades now compared to two on the older model.”

“The service from GreenMech is another thing that has always impressed us. We try and test other brands but forever settle on the GreenMech because in our opinion the build quality is better, the price is competitive and the after sales support from their technical team has always been first class.” Alex adds, “GreenMech were also able to accommodate supplying our latest machine in our corporate colours so while we now have the two QuadChip units, there’s still a fight between the two teams as everyone loves the smart new orange machine!”
