Golf Course Equipment/Workshop Manager

Reporting to the Director of Agronomy, the Golf Course Equipment/Workshop Manager will be a key member of the Golf Course Senior Management Team, playing a pivotal role in the selection, procurement, and long-term maintenance of the grow-in and operational machinery fleet as well as the golf club’s full vehicle fleet, supporting all departments across the property.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in the recruitment of workshop staff, as well as the layout, specification, and operational planning of a state-of-the-art workshop within the agronomy facilities, with construction scheduled to begin in early May.

This appointment represents another major milestone as A&M Golf continues to build a high-calibre team of professionals committed to delivering an exceptional golf and hospitality experience.

The Equipment Manager will be responsible for: –

  • Maintaining a safe working environment
  • Planning and implementing a preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment
  • Inspecting equipment for operating deficiencies, repairing and adjusting equipment as needed
  • Establishing safety procedures and maintaining safety records for equipment operations
  • Performing grinding and sharpening methods to ensure all cutting units are sharp daily
  • Purchasing of parts, supplies and materials
  • The safe and environmentally sound use of storage and disposal of hazardous materials (fuel, grease, solvents, etc.)
  • Maintaining service, repair and usage records on all equipment
  • Performing annual general overhauls for equipment
  • Maintaining accurate records pertaining to invoices, inventory, equipment repairs, and preventive maintenance programs
  • Ensuring all fleet of vehicles are in line with A&M expectations
  • Demonstrating to staff the use of all machinery, and train in safe operation and proper care and maintenance of assigned equipment
  • Being aligned with the philosophies of the Senior Management Agronomy Team and maintain good communications
  • Advising the Senior Management Team regarding major equipment failures and replacement needs
  • Preparing and managing annual equipment and workshop operational budgets
  • Propose and prepare all equipment and workshop capital budgets
  • Scheduling workshop staff training and annual appraisal reviews
  • Scheduling workshop staff rotas to include a 7-day week presence during the season
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Senior Agronomy Team/General Manager/Company Directors

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience in a mechanical and managerial role
  • Knowledge of electrical & hydraulic systems
  • Experienced in use of reel & bed-knife grinding equipment
  • Welding/fabrication
  • Good IT skills

David Cole, our Director of Agronomy, is currently recruiting a new agronomy team to collaborate closely with the golf course contractors throughout the construction, grow-in, and long-term maintenance phases of the golf courses and grounds.

Senior Greenkeepers

Reporting to the A&M Senior Agronomy Team, the senior greenkeepers will directly participate in all aspects of the key phases of the construction and grow-in and long-term maintenance for A&M Fife’s golf courses and grounds.

This will include the following,

  • The construction of USGA greens
  • Extensive drainage and irrigation installation
  • The construction of bunkers
  • Sand capping to tees, fairways and primary rough
  • Playing surface finishing and pre-plant application
  • Seeding, turfing and grow-in establishment
  • Ongoing assistance with drainage and course improvement projects
  • Assist with annual seed and turf establishment programmes
  • Assist with cultural practices applied to all the playing surfaces on the golf courses
  • Apply pesticide and fertilisers applications by the interpretation of data collation and following an Integrated Pest Management programme
  • Assist with record keeping and agronomy data collation and ensure they are kept up to date
  • Apply training for staff on the safe use of operational equipment and care of mowers and other equipment
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the irrigation and pumping systems

Under direction from the A&M senior agronomy team and the team of consultants and contractors, the senior greenkeeper positions will play a crucial role observing and assisting with the construction and seamless grow-in of the golf courses, and long term will ensure that the golf course maintains optimal playing conditions.

The Senior Greenkeepers will be responsible for: –

  • Following guidance from the A&M senior agronomy team, the golf course contractors, the project management team and various consultants assisting and monitoring all aspects of the construction phases for the golf courses and grounds.
  • Assisting with the maintenance and improvements of the putting greens, tees, fairways, practice facilities, roughs, bunkers and associated facilities
  • Identifying potential problems and providing corrective solutions and recommendations to the Director of Agronomy
  • Assisting with drainage and course improvement projects
  • Assisting with annual seed and turf establishment programmes
  • Assisting with cultural practices to all the playing surfaces on the golf course
  • Ensuring proper use of pesticide and fertilisers applications and equipment by following an Integrated Pest Management programme
  • Assist with training programmes for the safe use of operational equipment and care of mowers and other equipment
  • Ensuring all record keeping and date is accurate and kept up to date and all golf course related tasks are recorded
  • Assist with any relevant administration such as H&S, Training Manuals, Record Keeping, Purchasing, and data collation are maintained within correct legislation
  • Ensure the Golf course conditions are in line with A&M expectations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Agronomy/General Manager/Director of Golf/Company Directors
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs, and communicate with the senior agronomy team and staff with all golf course operations
  • Assist with monitoring water requirements with the use of ET and moisture devices and apply irrigation based on weather conditions and turfgrass requirements.
  • Maintaining good communications with all the senior agronomy team and staff and offer assistance and advice when required

  • A consistent history of employment at a good Greenkeeping level
  • A professional track record in the areas of:
    • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Greenkeeping and Sports Turf Management
    • PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates but not mandatory
    • The game of golf
    • Turf-grass management
    • Good working knowledge of golf course operations
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Be an individual with presence and possess the skill and ability to influence others
