Action Lawn sets high ambitions with Etesia: Action Lawn and Leisure has been appointed as a new Etesia dealer in Stirlingshire and surrounding areas.

Action Lawn and Leisure was founded in 1998 by Bob Bruce. It is a family run business which prides itself on offering a personal service with good advice and excellent product knowledge. “Currently we are operating at about 70% domestic and 30% commercial,” he said. “We are looking to venture more into the professional market and want to be able to offer machinery of the highest quality. That is why Etesia kept coming into my head.

“We have dealt with a few Etesia machines over the years and have always been very impressed with what we’ve seen,” continued Ian. “Our local council has an Etesia fleet it was the only machine that came in for a service this year that didn’t need major repairs. This tells me it is of a decent quality because the council are quite boisterous with their machinery!”

Bobcat in action in Germany: With over 3000 tournament events a year and almost four million people who, according to the Allensbach study, call themselves riders, horse riding is extremely popular in Germany.

The quality of the riding surface is an important part of horse and rider health. A special sand/fleece mixture has established itself as an international standard and, in addition to long life, ensures sufficient grip when jumping, landing and turning.

A pioneer in the use of this mixture is fair ground GmbH, which relies on a Bobcat T870 compact track loader and various Bobcat attachments when laying and maintaining surfaces for riding arenas, tournaments and outdoor installations. The company used all of this Bobcat equipment to lay materials for the 9000 m² of riding areas used in the Hanover exhibition halls for the 2019 Horse and Hunting Fair.

“We chose the Bobcat T870 compact track loader and are very satisfied with the performance. Above all, our operator is very enthusiastic about what they can do with the machine, after getting used to handling the new track loader in the shortest possible time. The tracks and the very wide range of possible applications means the Bobcat T870 is the perfect machine for us,” says Ekhard Dettmeier, fair ground Managing Director, who was an active show jumper until the end of the 1980s. To complete the 9000 m² of riding area at the Horse and Hunting Fair in Hanover in just two days, the T870 was combined with a Bobcat laser grader.

A Machine for Day-to-Day Business

As well as the spectacular one-offs such as the Horse and Hunting Fair, the T870 has also proved itself in fair ground’s day-to-day business. “The tracks on the T870 offer great advantages, especially in the outdoor spaces that we are creating,” Ekhard Dettmeier adds. The ground pressure plays an important role. Thanks to the tracks, this is very low. Due to its compact size, the powerful T870 is also ideal for smaller riding arenas and halls.

The many attachments compatible with the T870 also make work easier. In the compact loader segment, Bobcat has around 75 different families of attachments that cover a very wide range of tasks. “You can tell that the attachments are also from Bobcat when you use them. It is much better when the attachments are matched to the carrier machine. And thanks to the compact size of the equipment, we can put plenty of attachments on the same flatbed trailer as the T870,” explains Ekhard Dettmeier. This saves time and transportation costs. More time is saved as it is easy to change between attachments on site thanks to Bobcat’s Bob-Tach quick-change system.

“The T870 compact track loader is a real workhorse for us. The machine is in use for seven to eight hours a day. We have received excellent support from Bobcat dealer, Müller Maschinen GmbH in Hildesheim,” says Dettmeier.

“It is always nice for us to see the reaction when we supply our customers with the right tool for their requirements. With its wide range of products and wide variety of attachments, the Bobcat range repeatedly proves its versatility. If we can also help the customer with a tailor-made service, we are of course delighted,” said Ulf Ahrens from Müller Maschinen GmbH.

JCB joins national call to action

JCB joins national call to action: JCB is poised to re-start production at a factory closed as a result of the Coronavirus crisis in order to join the national effort to manufacture ventilators, the company announced today.

JCB received a direct appeal from Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this month to help plug the national ventilator shortage and to help save lives of Coronavirus patients. Following the approach, JCB Chairman Lord Bamford promised to help in any way the company could and immediately mobilised a research and engineering team to examine potential ways to assist.

Now JCB is ready to restart production at a factory which has been closed for nearly two weeks as a result of the Coronavirus crisis. But instead of making cabs for JCB diggers, the plant is being mobilised to make special steel housings for a brand new design of ventilator from Dyson. A minimum of 10,000 of the JCB housings are earmarked for manufacture once Dyson receives regulatory approval for its design.

The first prototypes of the housings have been delivered to Dyson after rolling off the production line at JCB’s £50 million Cab Systems factory in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, which Boris Johnson visited during the election campaign. The factory fell silent on March 18th along with eight other JCB UK manufacturing plants after a fall in demand caused by the Coronavirus crisis. Mass production of the housings could start in a matter of days.

Today JCB Chairman Lord Bamford said: “When we were approached by the Prime Minister we were determined, as a British company, to help in any way we could. This project has gone from design to production in just a matter of days and I am delighted that we have been able to deploy the skills of our talented engineering, design and fabrication teams so quickly at a time of national crisis. This is also a global crisis, of course, and we will naturally help with the production of more housings if these ventilators are eventually required by other countries.”

JCB’s response to the national call to action would see the return to work for around 50 employees affected by an extended company shutdown announced last week. JCB suspended production at its nine UK production plants until at least the end of April as a result of the Coronavirus crisis and furloughed the vast majority of its 6,500 workforce. The company is paying them 80% of their basic pay for the next month, regardless of what they earn.

Employees returning to work to help manufacture the ventilator housings will be paid 100% of their normal pay.

ECHA support action against COVID-19: ECHA will, together with the European Commission, support Member States and industry in addressing disinfectant shortages. The Agency will also extend some of its deadlines to help chemicals companies.

ECHA is taking measures to support EU action to fight the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Agency will, together with the European Commission, support Member States and industry to address shortages with the supply of disinfectants, which has become a critical issue in several EU Member States.

Bjorn Hansen, ECHA’s Executive Director says: “It is essential to ensure that there are enough disinfectants available for health professionals and European citizens. The main limiting factor seems to be the availability of active substances used in these biocidal products – in particular isopropanol, 1-propanol and ethanol. We are working, together with the Commission, on special arrangements to help Member States and companies get more disinfectants on the market as soon as possible.”

More details about concrete actions will follow soon.

Deadlines for certain processes will also be handled flexibly, including the payment of invoices. For certain deadlines that fall between now and the end of May 2020, companies will receive an extension of two months. This applies to cases where companies have initially failed to provide a complete registration for their chemicals and were granted a final deadline between March and May 2020, as well as for requests for further information related to confidentiality claims.

An extension of 30 days will also apply for companies to comment on ECHA’s draft decisions in cases where a registration has been considered incompliant with legal requirements.

More information on these arrangements will be published soon and duty holders will also be informed directly through ECHA’s IT systems.
