Of appeal to golf course operators, the batteries are maintenance-free resulting in considerable savings in time and labour costs. They also come with a five-year warranty and a useful working life of up to eight years. They charge almost twice as quickly as their lead-acid equivalents and provide in excess of three rounds before they require recharging.

A sophisticated, comfortable and powerful golf car, the new Drive² AC Li has fully independent front suspension, optimised to compliment the lightweight battery pack, to provide a pleasant, smooth ride. The rear suspension has been redesigned and offers increased comfort for the golfer while allowing golf course owners to deliver a better experience for their members and guests.

The new Drive² AC Li can utilise YamaTrack, Yamaha’s management system, that improves the operational efficiency of any golf car fleet. A 25 cm (10”) screen, mounted on the dashboard, allows golfers to enjoy 3-D terrain graphics and customisable Pro tips. Geo-zones can be set up to protect environmentally sensitive areas and players can pre-order food and beverages while out on the course.

The system also has a Lockdown feature for improving overnight security; it allows the monitoring of battery condition to improve fleet rotation and can send maintenance alerts from the car to the pro shop.

Commenting on the arrival of the new Drive² AC Li, Dan Palmer, Manager, Power Products (Yamaha Motor) said, “The use of Lithium-Ion technology offers several performance advantages such as more rounds per charge, longer life and faster charging. All of which are major and important factors for golf course operators.

“When coupled with our YamaTrack system, course operators can manage their fleets, removing the hassle and optimising their business operations and profitability. As you would expect, we will continue to stay close to our customers in the golf fleet sector to ensure that we identify and provide solutions that best meet their needs.”

Battery power with no limits

Battery power with no limits: Outdoor power equipment specialist EGO has launched a new battery size and charging options to give gardening, landscaping and grounds care specialists increased run-time and no limits when it comes to battery power.

Addressing a common concern with battery power, EGO has launched its CHU6000 Professional Multi-Port Charging Case (RRP £519.00) which is able to charge any combination of up to six EGO portable batteries at the same time. Working with the industry’s fastest charger, the new CHV1600E 1600W Multi-Port Charger (RRP £259.00), a typical 60Ah setup will charge in just three hours meaning users can comfortably work continuously throughout the day.

Battery power with no limits

With a wheeled case for easy loading and unloading from the van, EGO’s Multi-Port Charging Case uses an intelligent power management system that replenishes batteries with the lowest level of charge first, then brings all the batteries up to full charge at the same rate.

Also, part of the EGO Professional range, the new 12Ah BA6720T battery (RRP £529.00) is now the largest in its range and increases run time by up to 20 per cent across all EGO products. With EGO’s 12Ah battery, users can mow up to 1900sqm (almost 8 tennis courts) on a single charge, while offering up to 6 hours of run time for selected hedge trimmers and line trimmers.

Joining six smaller sized batteries in the range, the battery is interchangeable with all EGO tools, and uses patented 56V ARC Lithium™ technology to provide the best balance between required performance and usable power. It also makes use of EGO’s KeepCool™ technology to keep the temperature of battery cells lower for longer, preventing overheating. Internal microprocessors and software control every cell for delivery of optimal power, performance, and runtime.

Vince Brauns, European Product Manager at EGO, said: “Our new 12Ah battery and multiport charger combine to resolve one of the biggest barriers to battery-powered tool uptake in the professional market – battery capacity and speed of charging. With the ability to provide optimum power and performance too, our continual innovation in battery technology mean it is becoming virtually impossible for many professionals to justify their use of petrol-powered tools”

John Deere acquires battery company

John Deere acquires battery company: Deere & Company (NYSE: DE) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire majority ownership in Kreisel Electric, Inc. (“Kreisel”), a battery technology provider based in Rainbach im Mühlkreis, Austria.

Kreisel develops high-density, high-durability electric battery modules and packs. Additionally, Kreisel has developed a charging infrastructure platform (CHIMERO) that utilises this patented battery technology.

Since 2014, Kreisel has been a leading innovator focused on the development of immersion-cooled electric battery modules and packs for high-performance and off-highway applications. The company has a differentiated battery technology and battery-buffered charging infrastructure offering and currently serves a global customer base across multiple end markets, including commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles, marine, e-motorsports, and other high-performance applications.

John Deere sees demand growing for batteries as a sole or hybrid-propulsion system for vehicles. Products in Deere’s portfolio such as turf equipment, compact utility tractors, small tractors, compact construction, and road-building equipment could rely solely on batteries as a primary power source. Deere intends to continue to invest in and develop technologies to innovate, deliver value to customers, and work towards a future with zero emissions propulsion systems.

The majority investment in Kreisel Electric will allow Deere to vertically integrate vehicle and powertrain designs around high-density battery packs while leveraging Kreisel’s charging technology to build out infrastructure required for customer adoption.

“Kreisel’s battery technology can be applied across the broad portfolio of Deere products, and Kreisel’s in-market experience will benefit Deere as it ramps up its battery-electric vehicle portfolio. Deere will provide the expertise, global footprint, and funding to enable Kreisel to continue its fast growth in core markets,” said Pierre Guyot, Senior Vice President, John Deere Power Systems. “This is an opportunity to invest in a company with unique technology that’s designed for the demanding conditions where Deere customers work.”

“Furthermore, building an electrified portfolio is key to John Deere’s sustainability goal of pursuing new technologies that reduce the environmental impact of new products and work toward zero emissions propulsion systems on equipment, while increasing our customers’ efficiency and productivity,” Guyot said.

Kreisel Electric will retain its employees, brand name, and trademark, and continue to operate from its current location in Austria to serve its growing customer base. The company was founded by the brothers Johann, Markus and Philipp Kreisel and has approximately 160 full-time employees.

“The Kreisel team looks forward to expanding our base business, leveraging the Deere channel to accelerate adoption of battery-electric vehicles and charging stations, and working with Deere’s vehicle design teams on product advancements,” said Markus Kreisel, who serves as Managing Director, along with his two brothers, at Kreisel Electric.

The transaction requires final regulatory approval in Austria, with closing expected to take place in approximately 60 days. Financial details are not being disclosed.

Allett reveals Stirling battery mower

Allett reveals Stirling battery mower: Allett has introduced the Stirling battery mowers to their electric range. This, they say, is a unique mower for the lawn connoisseur, be they a homeowner who is an expert in lawncare, or the professional, demanding the perfection of a greens mower at a fraction of the cost of a professional one.

The Stirling is not just a mower but a complete lawncare system which utilises all the Allett Cartridges (adaption kit required) to achieve a greens standard ultra-low finish. With all the benefits of electric drive, the Stirling is packed with features previously unavailable outside Allett’s professional mower range for groundsmen and greenkeepers. Working with EGO’s renowned Power-Plus Arc Lithium-Ion battery system, they have designed a new generation of innovative, eco friendly, quiet yet powerful, versatile mowing and maintenance systems. Versatile because there is a greater range of lawn finishes with the height of cut range from 5mm to 50mm. Deeper cultivation for improved lawn treatment is made simple with the quick change cartridges that can be changed in under fifteen seconds.

The all-electric drive means quieter mowing at any time of the day, with no pollution at the point of cutting, no fuel collection and storage, push button starting and greater reliability. Two electric motors independently drive the rear roller and cartridge blades, with the EGO 56V battery generating masses of power for up to 900m² of continuous mowing at top speed. The battery will also fit into any EGO garden tool. The bottom blade has been made thicker with greater rigidity for trouble-free and accurate cutting. There is a roller-only drive option, so no rotating blades when travelling between lawns, and variable speed roller-drive offers more control for better mowing and cultivation results.

The Stirling is perfectly balanced with the weight over the rear roller, which means longer lasting, more contrasting stripes. It is also a split roller to ensure less turf wear and scuffing when turning. The independent drive speed allows you to travel at the right speed and the pull back and over-ride features allow effortless control and easy turning. The mower drive controls are simple and easy to use, with hand-palm recessed roller drive engagement. A LED battery charge light is continuously visible, so you know at a glance the battery’s remaining charge level and an overload warning light tells you if the mower is being worked too hard for the motors or battery.

There is also a front roller that is free wheeling for better battery life, less effort and accurate and consistent height control. The power system is neatly integrated into the chassis to provide good visibility of the front roller. An easy, turn-wheel accurately sets the height of cut, with an indicator to take the guesswork out of adjustment. The grassbox is lightweight, with a wire frame and perforated material stretched over it. Easy to carry and lift when it’s full, it also breaks down for winter storage. A lawn rake is a retained feature from other Allett mowers because customers say they love it. The Allett Stirling comes in two models, the Stirling 43 and Stirling 51 with 17” (430mm) and 20” (510mm) mowing width, respectively. Saltex Stand No. K009. Allett Mowers Ltd.  01889 271503
