Bobcat Attachment Cleans Douro River Beaches

Bobcat Attachment Cleans Douro River Beaches: A new Bobcat SC200 Sand Cleaner attachment is being used to clean river beach areas in Portugal. The fluvial beaches are authorized for bathing and lie alongside the spectacular Douro River in the Gondomar Municipality to the east of the city of Porto. The SC200 sand cleaner provides a more comfortable and efficient means of cleaning sand on beaches or river banks and is being used with a Bobcat T590 compact track loader to carry out the work.

“The sand cleaner attachment from Bobcat is an excellent piece of equipment that has brought great gains in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and quality in the cleaning work. With the new Bobcat sand cleaner, the work is done faster and saves on resources,” comments José Dias, who is responsible for providing the service.

Bobcat Attachment Cleans Douro River Beaches

The Bobcat sand cleaner is used to clean the riverside beaches of Lomba, Moreira, Melres, Cebreiros, Gramido and Ribeira de Abad, covering a total area of approximately 45,000 m2.

José Dias continued: “the cleaning service was previously carried out by a small sand cleaning machine, about 30 years old and with very low performance, so we have improved service, productivity and profitability as well.”

One of the advantages of the new Bobcat sand cleaner is that it can be used on both dry and wet surfaces. The sand on fluvial beaches has a different constitution to that found on maritime beaches. River beaches can also suffer from the presence of deep rooted undergrowth. This is normally removed from the sandy areas out of season. With the new Bobcat attachment, this work is now providing a yield four times higher than the equipment previously used and to a higher quality.

“The cleaning of all the sandy areas is now carried out over 8 to 10 days, depending on whether or not the sand is dry or wet, compared to the 30 to 40 days it needed in the past. The Bobcat loader package with the sand cleaner provides a solution that costs half as much as a dedicated sand cleaning machine for the same application. Cleaning with this implement is much cheaper thanks to the short cycles and high productivity of the Bobcat loader-sand cleaner combination,” said José Dias.

With a working width of 1900 mm, a working depth of up to 200 mm and a bucket capacity of 350 l, the Bobcat sand cleaner is a high performance attachment which allows the loader operator to quickly sift sand/soil and collect debris and waste as small as cigarette stubs. As well as cigarette stubs, the sand cleaner can also pick up other small debris such as bottle caps, broken glass, pieces of wood, cans, stones, rocks, plastic bags, syringes and seaweed.

Capable of covering a large area at a rate of up to 15,000 m²/h, the high productivity offered by the Bobcat sand cleaner is complemented by the high discharge capability. This is provided by the lift arms on the loader and the hydraulic hopper gate on the attachment, allowing the debris to be easily dumped into a waiting truck.

The SC200 sand cleaner is compatible with both the standard and high flow versions of the Bobcat T590, T650, T770 and T870 compact track loader models.

Like all Bobcat compact loaders, these models are equipped with the quick-change Bob-Tach attachment mounting system. This allows them to be combined quickly and safely with several hundred different Bobcat attachments, delivering versatility and time-saving efficiency across a huge range of different applications. The Bob-Tach system can quickly and easily replace a bucket with pallet forks, a landscape rake, a backhoe, an auger, a grapple or a host of other attachments.

Complete Cleaning Solution

The use of other attachments in the Bobcat range with the loader and sand cleaner combination can provide a complete all-round cleaning solution. For example, by using the Bobcat Root Grapple attachment on the loader before the sand cleaner, the operator can pick up larger material and debris before finishing the job with the sand cleaner. A Bobcat Angle Broom or Sweeper attachment can also be used to remove sand from nearby roads.

The compact size of the loader and its unmatched manoeuvrability give the operator the ability to work around fixed obstacles and to reach isolated locations where access is difficult or where approach can only be made down small access roads.

The sand cleaner attachment is therefore ideal for use on public and private beaches; holiday resorts; playground maintenance; sports fields (including beach volleyball and beach soccer); courts; zoos; horse racing tracks; farms and in the recycling/sorting industry.

New Bobcat Loader Developments

New Bobcat Loader Developments: Auto Ride Control, Heated Cloth Air Ride Seats are just some of the new developments announced by Bobcat regarding the company’s compact loader range for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The new developments provide an increased choice of features for the Bobcat skid-steer, compact track and all-wheel steer loader ranges.

Complementing this, Bobcat has also launched the S100E model for EMEA, an updated version of the company’s popular S100 skid-steer loader that meets Stage V emissions regulations. Like the S100, the new S100E skid-steer loader meets customer requirements for manoeuvrability, size, weight, uptime protection, lift capacity and push force for this loader class. In addition, customers benefit from improvements Bobcat has made in operator comfort, ease of operation, noise levels, running costs and asset management.

New Bobcat Loader Developments

These new advances come in the year that Bobcat celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the loader, forming part of a 60 year legacy in compact loaders that is second to none in the worldwide construction equipment market. Over the last 60 years, the same outstanding quality, workmanship and innovation have helped to maintain Bobcat’s market leadership, so that one in every two skid-steer loaders sold today is a Bobcat machine.

New Developments in Bobcat Loader Range

The improvements in Bobcat compact loaders include:

  • Auto Ride Control (Factory Option and Kit)
  • Heated Cloth Air Ride Seat (Factory Option and Kit)
  • Cloth Suspension Seat (Factory Option and Kit)
  • Cushioned Cylinders (Standard)
  • Auto Reversing Fan (Factory Option and Kit)
  • LED Side Lights (Kit)
  • Rear Camera (Kit)
  • Deluxe interior foot-pad (Standard)

Available as a Factory Option or as an Aftermarket Kit, the new Auto Ride Control system improves operator comfort when driving with a load in the bucket especially on rough terrain. This feature lets the operator lock in travel at a speed of their choice, so that they only have to think about where they are going without feeling the need to avoid bumps or any other surface level obstacles.

Benefits include reduced spillage caused by vibrations due to an uneven operating speed and/or irregular surfaces; more stability when moving up and down with a load/weight and the ability to drive faster on rough terrain. It is also an intelligent system, providing increased efficiency, performance gains and a more comfortable ride with fewer bumps, simply through the flick of a switch.

The new Heated Cloth Air Ride Seat is available on the Bobcat 600, 700 and 800 Series compact loader models. This is an alternative to the previous Air Ride Seat with a vinyl surface and further enhances operator comfort with the move to the cloth surface. It is designed to enhance comfort and productivity, particularly for customers operating loaders in cold weather.

On the 400 and 500 Series models, Bobcat has also introduced the Cloth Suspension Seat, again replacing the Air Ride Seat with a vinyl surface. The cloth surface improves the operator’s comfort all year round − in both cold and hot weather − and provides more comfortable seating on slopes and inclines.

The Air Ride Seat with vinyl surface remains available for Bobcat loader customers through the company’s Aftermarket service.

Cushioned Cylinders as Standard

The incorporation of Cushioned Lift and Tilt Cylinders as standard offers advantages when the loader’s lift arms are lowered and/or the Bob-Tach system tilted, and the cylinders move towards the end of a stroke, by restricting the hydraulic fluid from flowing out so that the cylinder is slowed down before it fully retracts.

This slowing − or cushioning − effect increases overall performance and improves comfort, because the operator does not need to slow down the motion themselves when approaching the end of the stroke. In addition, cushioned cylinders soften the impact when the lift arms contact the mainframe − reducing noise in the workplace.

As well as being a standard, free of charge feature for the customer, this system allows the operator to work faster, with softer impacts, reducing spillage while tilting and ensures that the machine feels more stable when in use.

The Auto Reversing Fan helps to keep the grill clean and to clear out dust that can clog the cooler. This helps improve machine uptime, reducing the need to clean so frequently and it is an automatic feature, ensuring the operator does not have to leave the cab as often.

Available in Kit form, the LED Side Lights improve the operator’s all-round visibility from inside the cab. The lights − solidly incorporated in the cab structure to ensure high reliability − help the operator work more safely and efficiently, in all environments, in minimal visibility conditions. In extremely dark conditions, and especially in tight spaces, the LED Side Lights enable the operator to see how close they are to an obstacle.

To further enhance visibility to the rear, Bobcat has introduced the new Rear Camera Kit, with the basic system combining a 4.3 inch display and a 118° tail-gate mounted camera.

The Deluxe Interior Foot-pad provides an improved foot area in deluxe interior versions of Bobcat loaders. This offers a fit and finish improvement, enhances cleaning ability and offers increased operator sound insulation.

New S100E Skid-Steer Loader

Compact dimensions – a height of 1878 mm, length without attachment of 2262 mm and width over the tyres of 1182 mm – allow the S100E to manoeuvre efficiently in confined spaces even in bad weather. Despite its smaller dimensions, state-of-the-art engineering has ensured that the S100E loader offers the power and performance expected of a bigger machine.

This is combined with the durability of a strong frame design, increased operator comfort and easy serviceability thanks to a transverse-mounted Stage V compliant Kubota V1505-T4FST5 diesel engine providing 18.2 kW of power at 2300 RPM. The S100E offers a rated operating capacity of 457 kg and a tipping load of 915 kg.

The low operating weight with bucket of just 1860 kg allows for easy transportation of the S100E on a trailer.  The engine power and hydraulic flow on the S100E are suitable for operating over 30 different Bobcat attachments.

As well as the full-comfort cab, designed to enable operators to work all day long for optimal productivity, the S100E has the most advanced electronic controls and instrumentation for this size of machine on the market, providing a new level of diagnostic capability and control.  The instrument panels and gauges are placed in convenient locations in the top left hand and top right hand corners at the front of the cab.

Bobcat Equipment On Supercross Course

Bobcat Equipment On Supercross Course: Europe’s largest ever Supercross course in a stadium has been built using Bobcat compact equipment, in unusual and demanding conditions.

JLFO built the track for the Paris SX leg of the French ‘SX TOUR’ Supercross Championship in the versatile new U Arena in Nanterre in the outskirts of Paris, which was opened in October 2017.  This event had been held for more than 30 years at the Palais Omnisports venue in Paris Bercy, before relocating for the last three years to the Pierre Mauroy stadium in Villeneuve d’Ascq.

Bobcat Equipment On Supercross Course

To build the track for the Paris SX held on 18-19 November, JLFO teams employed a fleet of machines including three Bobcat compact loaders, a Bobcat compact excavator and a Doosan wheeled excavator to move and shape nearly 4000 m3 of soil to prepare the largest Supercross course ever completed inside a stadium in Europe.

JFLO, Supercross Track Specialist

Based in La Bastide-l’Eveque in France, JLFO specializes in organising events in the car, motorbike and quad bike sectors.  With more than 200 major events to its credit, JLFO has forged a strong reputation in the construction of off-road tracks for car, motorbike and quad bike racing, as well as handling all of the logistics to accompany the events.

Many Constraints

The work of the Bobcat and Doosan machines in Paris comes off the back of the Supercross SX events held the last three years in Lille, where the JLFO teams had used a fleet of Bobcat equipment to meet the challenge presented by only three days being available for assembly of the track and just one night for the disassembly, skillfully handling thousands of cubic metres of earth, while at the same time protecting any grass surfaces.

The challenge of installing the track for the Paris Supercross SX in the U Arena was just as immense.  The deadlines were the same with three nights for building the track and only one night to dismantle it.  The first job was to protect the lawn and the soil during the weekend. The construction of the track also had to be done at night by the teams in Nanterre.  So for three nights, JLFO teams were mobilized to deliver the soil and build the slopes, bumps and other obstacles as required for the track.  The Supercross course was finalised on the Thursday before the event, with pilot tests carried out on the Friday.  The biggest challenge was dismantling the track overnight on between the end of Sunday and Monday.  No less than five earthmovers were used, including a Bobcat E62 compact excavator, two Bobcat T870 loaders, a Bobcat T650 loader and a Doosan DX165W-5 wheeled excavator.

Nearly 4000 m3 of Soil

The volume of soil used to prepare the track was considerable: comprising nearly 4000 m3 on a floor area of 10.000 m2.  The soil was transported in ten 20 tonne trucks from a location in Aubervilliers, six kilometres from the U Arena.  The soil was spread in five layers by the Bobcat compact excavators and loaders to create the bumps and hollows of the track.  Only the Freestyle bump was an intrinsic structure in itself, which saved about 400 m3 of soil – it was also covered with earth.

Jean-Luc Fouchet, Founding President of JLFO, explained: “Our three Bobcat T650 and T870 loaders and the Bobcat E62 compact excavator allow us to work with the utmost efficiency.  When you make a hump in the track, you can climb on it and compact it. We can modulate it and we do not need another machine. With compact track loaders, you can quickly move to stand back, look at the shape and correct it if necessary,

The Bobcat T870 loaders are the largest loaders the brand has ever made. To achieve the feat of preparing and dismantling the track in such a short time, JLFO used three experienced Bobcat drivers.  For the duration of the event, Bobcat loaders and compact excavators were at work for the regular repair of the track after the races.

In total, a team of 70 people completed the assembly of the SX track in Paris over three nights and for the disassembly over the last night. The event welcomed over 40,000 spectators on the Saturday and Sunday.  As an operational partner, Bobcat invited some of its customers to attend the show over the weekend.

The team was mobilized again on Monday 20 November in Lyon for the next stage of the SX Tour championship.  As well as Lyon and Paris, Bobcat is also partnering with JLFO to prepare the Supercross tracks at the Montpellier and Amnéville events that form part of the Championship.
