ECHO Launch New Chainsaw

ECHO Launch New Chainsaw: ECHO is setting a benchmark for rear handle chainsaws with the launch of the new CS-4510ES. It packs a real punch with its 45cc two-stroke stratified scavenging engine and the power-to-weight ratio makes it more powerful yet lighter than previous models. This is a chainsaw loaded with new features but still built to exacting ECHO standards. It offers a better output of 2.3kW and yet weighs in with a dry weight of just 5.0kg.

Lift the CS-4510ES and you immediately feel how light it is. Start cutting logs or use it for felling small trees and you realise it is no ordinary chainsaw. You know instinctively the moment you start work it’s been designed by engineers who understand what the operator needs in terms of performance, durability and ergonomics. The Stage II emission compliant engine is one of ECHO’s new engine platforms. The two-stroke has a piston operated scavenging system in which a layer of fuel-free air is created between the burnt charge in the combustion chamber and the fresh charge in the crankcase. The buffer reduces the fuel laden losses during the cycle.

This translates into a chainsaw that generates more torque to cut faster and more efficiently through harder wood. Add in features such as the new air filter design which shields the engine from dust intake, the drop-out prevention nuts, translucent fuel tank, and the ES Easy Start system, and it’s easy to see why this very different looking chainsaw is going to be much in demand with a wide range of users.

The ECHO CS-4510ES is a machine that not only increases productivity and reduces downtime in maintenance, it also comes with a two-year professional warranty or five-year domestic warranty.

Makita’s New Cordless Chainsaw

Makita’s New Cordless Chainsaw: Makita is introducing a new cordless 18V top handle chainsaw, which has been designed for forestry professionals.

Makita chainsaws have gained a high reputation amongst forestry professionals with models that are renowned for power, performance, rugged reliability and value.  The new Makita DUC254Z 18V Brushless Top Handle Chainsaw LXT is no exception.  With a single 18V Lithium-Ion battery it generates a 570 watt output providing ample power to run the 3/8th inch chain over the 25cm bar at up to 24 metres per second matching the performance of a petrol machine.  The Brushless motor ensures longer runtime, substantially greater power and lower maintenance.

Makita's New Cordless Chainsaw

Setting an industry benchmark this new model features the main power switch with Auto-Off function making it one of the safest chainsaws on the market.  It automatically turns the machine off if the operator does not grip the lock-off lever within 10 seconds of turning the machine on.  Equally, the Auto-Off function kicks in if the operator does not trigger the switch within one minute, even if the lock-off lever is gripped.  And again, if the operator does not grip the lock-off lever within 10 seconds after releasing the lock-off lever the Auto-Off function takes control.  Classified as a top-handle model this chainsaw should only be used by trained and certificated professionals.

Light and compact, weighing just 2.8kg, this cordless machine is designed for operators when climbing and for single handed use, and is ideal for tree pruning.  Neatly packaged with a sturdy hand-grip the DUC254Z features a variable speed control trigger, electric chain brake and kickback brake.  This model also provides a soft start function which accelerates the motor into action reducing the sudden torque load on start up.  Sold as body only, this LXT chainsaw has an oil capacity display, hanging hook and captive nuts.

Makita’s cordless chainsaws offer low noise in operation, low vibrations for operator protection and comfort, zero emissions to protect the environment and unbeatable charge times.  The Makita range of cordless and 2-stroke chainsaws is comprehensive to cover the needs of professional users and industry applications with selected models being the product of choice of the British Army and are used by specialist disaster relief charity DART International UK.

STIHL’s Chainsaw Of The Future

STIHL’s Chainsaw Of The Future: The new STIHL MS 500i is the first chainsaw in the world with electronic fuel injection and a never-before achieved power-to-weight ratio.

With the MS 500i, STIHL presents the world’s first standard chainsaw with electronically controlled fuel injection, consolidating its position as a technology leader.

STIHL's Chainsaw Of The Future

The STIHL injection technology (i) not only provides the chainsaw of the future with incredible torque, but also ensures rapid acceleration of the saw chain from 0 to 100 km/h in just 0.25 seconds.

Thanks to the intelligent lightweight design, the MS 500i is also outstanding with the best ever power-to-weight ratio – 1.24 kilograms per kilowatt, an exemplarily low value never achieved before by series-manufactured chainsaws.

Together with the many additional design optimisations, there is a substantial increase in operator comfort. The reduction of gyroscopic forces provides the 80 cm³-class high-performance professional saw with dynamic manoeuvrability, which is a particular advantage during limbing. This makes the professional big timber harvester easy to handle in all disciplines – from felling to cutting to length.

The MS 500i has exceptional starting behavior and provides optimum engine power right from startup. The engine does not need a carburetor, since the fuel metering is done using a sensor, and automatically adapts to the different operating conditions, no matter what the altitude and ambient temperature.

A preview of the new MS 500i will be given at the Arb Show, Westonbirt Arboretum from 11 to 12 May 2018. It will be available to forestry professionals worldwide from the beginning of 2019.

Due to the exceptional level of interest, the machine will already be available in selected markets, including Germany, in limited quantities in time for the 2018/19 season.

 The details at a glance:

  • First chainsaw with STIHL Injection
Huge advancement in engine development. The MS 500i is the first ever series-manufactured chainsaw with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. The high-torque machine provides optimum engine power right from startup. It provides powerful performance and the saw chain accelerates extremely rapidly – from 0 to 100 km/h in just 0.25 seconds.
  • Best power-to-weight ratio of all classes
The STIHL MS 500i is a lightweight within the ranks of professional saws. Thanks to intelligent lightweight design, as well as an extremely high engine power, it excels with an exemplarily low power-to-weight ratio at 1.24 kg/kW. This value is unique within all displacement categories.
  • Easy starting and sensor-controlled fuel mixing
The MS 500i is very easy to start in all operating conditions, and automatically adapts to different locations of use. The sensor-controlled fuel mixing ensures that the mixture is adjusted optimally for the oxygen content in the air right from the first ignition.
  • Improved ergonomics and practical details make work easier
The innovative flywheel with a reduced installation height and lower weight reduces the gyroscopic forces that arise during operation. Together with the low overall weight, the resulting dynamic swiveling behavior of the machine, which is a particular advantage for limbing, makes the ideal guidance of the tool along the trunk easy.
This is also supported by the new bumper spike geometry. The raised plunge bar on the fan housing – parallel to the axis of symmetry of the guide bar – makes directional control and tool guidance easier when plunge cutting. Captive nuts on the chain sprocket cover make changing the chain straightforward. Professional big timber harvesting – from felling through cutting to length to limbing – is a simple task with the new professional saw.
