EGO powers up with new professional chainsaw

EGO powers up with new professional chainsaw: Leading battery-powered outdoor power equipment specialist, EGO Power Plus, has added a high-performance professional chainsaw to its range for forestry and garden professionals.

The CSX5000 is the first in a new generation of rear-handle chainsaws designed for demanding work. With a 30m/s chain speed, it provides comparable performance to established petrol saws; but brings all the benefits of battery power.

Chris Buck, Product Manager at EGO, said: “The most demanding ground saw applications require precision, power, and good ergonomics. The CSX5000 delivers all three in a saw that matches or exceeds the performance of petrol saws.”

Ideal for bar lengths of 40cm – 50cm, the CSX5000 has a 50cm full chisel chain for fast and efficient cutting and metal bumper spikes for extra stability when cross-cutting. Perfect for light forestry work, it copes comfortably with felling and cross-cutting tasks. An integrated felling line enhances safety by ensuring the user can see in which direction the tree or branches will fall.

Weight distribution is integral to the saw’s performance and safety, so EGO’s product development team have ensured the CSX5000 has a centralised battery position to provide optimal tool balance. The handle positions also ensure comfort when both cross-cutting and felling.

The saw also features a new display screen that enables the user to quickly check all the key parameters of the saw, such as oil level, battery capacity and set speed. The operator can use the LCD control panel to change the chain speed down to 25 or 20m per second and control the oil rate to ensure the most efficient cutting possible. In addition, there is a translucent oil tank for easy level viewing and a flat filling position to minimise the risk of spills.

“The CSX5000 is a truly powerful and robust chainsaw that is specifically designed for forestry and garden professionals as well as landscapers and grounds care specialists,” added Chris. “With zero emissions as well as far lower operating overheads and maintenance costs, it offers a great return on investment.”

The CSX5000 is part of the new PRO X series of hard-wearing and powerful tools for professionals, which also includes a lawn mower, hedge trimmers, brush cutters, and grass trimmers.

Moreover, the enhanced MSA 220 now comes as standard with a 3/8P pitch, 1.1mm gauge PS3 PRO chain, which improves cutting performance by up to 20% due to its narrower kerf. The new chain has been specifically designed for use with STIHL’s new Light 04 1.1mm guide bar, allowing more cuts to be made per battery charge. The MSA 160 C-B and MSA 200 C-B feature a 1/4P chain for smooth and precise cuts.

All three new models have seen numerous upgraded operational features introduced to improve the user experience. These include improved visibility of the chain oil level for faster checks, a thumb lever and OPC starting switch for increased comfort and safety, as well as a soft rubberised grip and optimally balanced handle position for maximum control and comfort.

In addition, all new models feature quick chain tensioning for fast and tool-less replacement or tensioning of the chain, as well as bayonet style oil tank caps which can be opened quickly and easily while wearing gloves.

STIHL chainsaw wins top award

STIHL chainsaw wins top award: The STIHL MS 400 C-M, the world’s first chainsaw with magnesium piston technology, has been recognised by the International Magnesium Association (IMA) with the prestigious Award of Excellence 2020.

The IMA’s Awards of Excellence is an annual award ceremony that brings together companies who demonstrate outstanding magnesium products and innovative manufacturing technologies. The component and the production process specially developed for the magnesium piston technology utilised in the MS 400 C-M was the winner of the Commercial (non-automotive) Cast Product or Process category.

Paul Hicks at STIHL GB, said: “At STIHL, we have more than 60 years’ experience working with magnesium and fabricating it and we constantly strive to set new benchmarks in machinery development and production.

“Although we use magnesium in many products, the desire to continue to enhance machinery performance led us to using magnesium piston technology in a chainsaw for the first time. Thanks in no small part to this and the consistent lightweight design, we have succeeded in reducing the weight of the piston and increasing the rpm in the STIHL MS 400 C-M, providing more power and torque to the pro user.”

The IMA Award of Excellence win quickly follows the MS 400 C-M receiving the top prize at the Euroguss 2020 industry trade fair in the “magnesium components” category.

The MS 400 C-M chainsaw has been designed with forestry and arb professionals in mind, offering the highest maximum speed (14,000 rpm) in the 60cm3 class. The lightweight and durable piston weighs just 70g, helping contribute to the machine’s excellent power-to-weight ratio of 1.5 kg per kilowatt, making it ideal for use when working in a forest, particularly over prolonged periods.

ECHO’s new low emission chainsaw

ECHO’s new low emission chainsaw: ECHO has launched the CS-621SX heavy-duty rear handle chainsaw. The new saw is a reduced emissions version of their best-selling CS-620SX, yet it retains all the power and dependability of its predecessor.

This is a chainsaw built for arborists and landscaping professionals who use this type of saw daily for felling large trees.

ECHO’s new low emission chainsaw

The CS-621SX boasts a new 59.8cc low emission, professional-grade 2-stroke ECHO engine, designed and manufactured in Japan. It is the latest chainsaw in the ECHO X-series of ‘Best in Class’ products which aim to be industry-leading in terms of power and performance. The saw is packed with advanced features to help the commercial operator power through their work. For a heavy-duty saw, it is surprisingly lightweight at only 6.3kg (dry weight) but that doesn’t take anything away from its cutting performance, which exceeds that of many higher capacity machines.  Its balance and ergonomic design offer manoeuvrability and precision, with dual bumper spikes enabling better control when sawing through stumps and thicker branches.

The CS-621SX is a superior saw in every respect, say ECHO, with its range of additional features designed to make the working day easier and more productive. There’s a decompression button for easy starting, a side-access chain tensioner and drop prevention nuts which can’t be lost during maintenance. A rotating plastic chain catcher is designed to help protect the user from potential injury while also preventing chain damage.   The heavy-duty aluminum handle has a secure rubber grip and reduces vibration in the hand. Fuel and oil caps are made larger for easier filling and the fuel tank is translucent to show the fuel level. The ‘G-FORCE’ air cleaner system features a large air filter to keep out debris.

It all adds up to a powerful, durable and heavy-duty chainsaw built to ECHO’s usual exacting specifications, which is borne out by a two-year professional or five-year domestic warranty. You can find out more from your local authorised ECHO dealer.
