First chainsaw with Auto Choke: ECHO has launched the world’s first chainsaw with Auto Choke. The CS-352AC is an all-round rear handle chainsaw, with the patented Auto Choke feature enabling quicker, easier and safer starting.

All that’s needed is one pull, regardless of the engine temperature, and the chainsaw starts first time – without the risk of flooding the engine.

The chainsaw has a 34.0cc professional-grade ECHO two-stroke engine which provides powerful cutting with low emissions and low noise levels. The Auto Choke comprises a solenoid valve on the engine’s carburettor to control the amount of fuel depending on the engine temperature, giving optimal performance in all conditions. The usual steps of pulling and pushing the choke, starting with partial throttle and pulling the throttle trigger are all dispensed with. The chainsaw is started on idle speed, making it altogether simpler for infrequent users who want to operate their chainsaw without the need to adjust the choke before starting. Combined with ECHO’s ES-Start system you get fast and effortless starting.

The CS-352AC is ideal for pruning and cutting firewood. It is built to ECHO’s usual professional standards for optimum performance, durability and ergonomics. Another key feature of this saw is the professional-grade anti-vibration system, which improves user comfort without sacrificing on power. The inboard clutch enables both easy bar and chain replacement and easy maintenance. Additionally, a large cassette-type air filter, with an aerodynamic air passage, reduces dust discharge entering the airflow into the engine. The CS-352AC comes with a 90PX (0.043 gauge) chain for smoother and faster cutting.

ECHO’s new chainsaw top of the class: ECHO has developed a rear handle version of its highly successful CS-2511TES top handle chainsaw. The result, the CS-2511WES, is ‘an exceptional chainsaw which will suit professionals across all sectors,’ say ECHO. There’s even a version designed specifically for carvers.

The CS-2511WES is part of ECHO’s X Series range. ECHO says: “these ‘best in class’ products are industry-leading in terms of performance and features. They are designed for professionals who rely on their tools day-in day-out. This is where the chainsaw excels.” Weighing just 2.6kg (dry weight) and producing 1.10kW of power, it has the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. This makes it both highly manoeuvrable and usable for long periods without fatigue. It is ideal for trimming, pruning, small logging and wood carving.

“Every ECHO product is designed around the needs of the end-user,” say ECHO, “the CS-2511WES is no exception.” It features a palm rest for precise control, a tool-less air filter cover to allow easy access to the air filter, even when wearing gloves, and tool-less access to fuel and oil tanks. There’s a side access chain tensioner for easy chain adjustment and an anti-icing system to prevent the carburettor from freezing in colder months. Easy Start, ECHO’s patented system, ensures effortless starting, while the oiler adjustment on the top of the chainsaw gives the operator control of the oil flow for optimum operation.

Designed and manufactured in Japan, the CS-2511WES is powered by a 25.0cc professional-grade, Stage 2 low emissions compliant ECHO engine. It comes with a 0.050” gauge, 30cm (12”) cutting bar. Chainsaw Artist Attempts World Record

Chainsaw Artist Attempts World Record: Chainsaw artist Ian Murray is attempting to set a new world record by climbing the three highest peaks in the UK and creating wood sculptures at the top of each one by using a Pellenc Selion M12 chainsaw – all within 24 hours.

The purpose of this incredible challenge is to raise money for the three charities that are close to Ian’s heart. As an ex-military man he has decided to raise funds for the Royal British Legion (RBL), the Soldiers Charity (ABF) and the Blind Veterans.

Furthermore, Ian could not have a better team behind him as he attempts to conquer the Three Peaks Challenge as he will be joined by army veterans, soldiers who are still serving and junior soldiers from AFC Harrogate.

“It was always on my bucket list,” he said. “When you are in business and find yourself sitting up at 2am in the morning doing paperwork, all kinds of crazy ideas come into your head. So I thought let’s do this challenge with a twist!”

Upon leaving the army in 2002, Ian started a new career as a tree surgeon. However after an accident, which saw him fall from a 60ft tree, he decided to use the skills he had gained with a chainsaw to pursue a new venture in wood carving. It is safe to say that it has been a huge success and some of his designs need to be seen to be believed.

After serving with the army in Bosnia, Kosovo and Northern Ireland, Ian is no stranger to a challenge, however the Three Peaks Challenge could well be his biggest trial yet.

In just 24 hours he will not only be climbing the UK’s three highest peaks but at the top of each he will be sculpting the Scottish Thistle on top of Ben Nevis, the English Rose on Scafell Pike and the Welsh Dragon at the top of Snowden. His tool of choice to create these sculptures is the Pellenc Selion M12 chainsaw.

“It was imperative that the chainsaw I chose for this challenge was extremely lightweight. Originally I stripped down one of my old saws so it weighed just over 4.5 kg. I thought that was fairly light until I was talking to Jonathan Morris from Morris Garden Machinery who told me about the Pellenc Selion M12 chainsaw which weighed just 1.7 kg. Well I thought that it would make my job a lot easier by carrying it while climbing.”

The Pellenc Selion M12 is a battery powered handheld chainsaw with a 1200-watt motor, a 6″ cutting bar and weighs only 1.7kg. This compact, powerful chainsaw lends itself to a wide range of uses and facilitates the gentle pruning work of shade trees, ornamental trees and robust hedges. The machine has been designed with the professional user in mind, as the Selion M12 will operate all day with a single charge – which makes it perfect for Ian’s challenge.

“I’ve used Pellenc equipment before and it was absolutely brilliant. The bonus of doing this challenge with the Selion M12 is that it also has the green factor. There are no emissions, it is solar charged and it ticks all of the boxes when it comes to being environmentally friendly.

“I haven’t got to worry about carting petrol around with me while climbing and the battery will last long enough to get me through the challenge. It is a third of the weight of everything else I will have with me – so anything that makes my life easier is great.”

STIHL’s New Cordless Chainsaw: Ideal for forestry and agricultural work, STIHL has launched the new MSA 220 C-B, the most powerful cordless chainsaw in the STIHL range.

Thanks to the compact design and the soft rubber handle, the tool fits comfortably and securely in the hand.
