Scots Turf Donation Will ‘Change Lives’

Scots Turf Donation Will ‘Change Lives’: A donation of football equipment from Scots Turf may seem like a simple gesture, but Motherwell Football Club Chief Executive Dawn Middleton is certain it will change the lives of the local community.

In partnership with New World Sport, Scots Turf donated footballs, bibs, markers, coaches’ notebooks and more following a second successful Scots Turf show. It has always been the aim of organisers Richard Heywood and Alan Thomson to give back to sport-focused charities in Scotland, and the Motherwell FC Community Trust is the first.

As the official charity of Motherwell FC, the Trust leverages the club’s brand and the unifying power of football to drive positive change in the local community. In 2021, a UEFA Social Return and Investment report revealed that the charity’s initiatives resulted in £13.64 million worth of health benefits, saving the NHS money on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, mental health and more.

With no core income, the charity relies on fundraising and donations to operate. While you might think money is what’s needed, Dawn explains that football equipment is much more important than that.

“Firstly, I’d like to express our gratitude for the donation, which really makes a difference and does change lives,” Dawn began. “Sometimes people will say, ‘Oh, it would be great if you got money,’ but it’s not about money. This donation was far more valuable to us than money.

“It’s absolutely fantastic for us because equipment is expensive, and you can never have enough. Andy, our Head of Community Football does an excellent job, and coaches always ask him to spend money on equipment. It was great for us to be able to go back and supply it.

“The Trust supports a diverse range of 29 community teams, spanning from children born in 2019 to walking footballers in their 80s, women’s recreational football, and disability football. Each of these groups requires their own footballs, bibs, and markers, which often get lost or damaged. The donation from Scots Turf has significantly reduced the financial , burden on the Trust, ensuring the affordability of participation for all.”

The Motherwell FC Community Trust operates in one of Scotland’s most deprived areas. Due to increasing mortgage rates, food prices, and fuel costs, the community team experiences a lot of in-work poverty. Through donations, however, they have been able to limit the rise in community team monthly subscription costs to just 5p over seven years, which is invaluable for those participating.

Bradford Green sows the seed of change

Bradford Green sows the seed of change: Wholesale native wildflower seed supplier, Bradford Green has welcomed English Heritage’s plans to establish 100 wildflower meadows at historic sites to celebrate the King’s coronation.

The start-up business is based at Bradford Estates on the Shropshire / Staffordshire border. Here they produce high-quality sustainable wildflower seed to be used by private, public and charitable organisations, as well the general public for a range of biodiversity projects and wildflower plantings.

Bradford Green Director, Bethan Pugh, recognises the value of initiatives such as English Heritage’s dedicated King’s Coronation Meadows and calls for further restoration of the country’s lost flower-rich grasslands.

“Our ancient meadows drastically declined after WWII. We’ve lost 97% over 70 years which has had a hugely detrimental impact on the wildlife these habitats sustain,” says Ms Pugh.

“Thankfully, there is growing recognition of wildflowers’ multiple benefits. Reinstating meadows is a great way to create a lasting and positive legacy for future generations.

“However, it’s important to remember, no matter how much space you have, you can make a difference. Anyone can help prioritise the natural world by establishing flower-rich spaces. The key is to source native wildflower seed which has been produced as sustainably as possible, right here in the UK.,” she adds.

From farmland to urban spaces, wildflowers not only enhance biodiversity, but they also improve soil health, as well as delivering aesthetic and wellbeing value for local communities.

As the Government’s land management, farming and environmental policies continue to promote more nature-friendly approaches, the introduction of native species is being actively encouraged.

Creating flourishing natural spaces that support pollinators and other wildlife depends on having the highest concentration of native wildflower species to attract bees and other insects.

“I hope English Heritage’s visitors will be inspired by the meadows this summer and make their own contribution to reversing biodiversity loss in the UK as a result,” says Ms Pugh.

Driving Change with GALMOBILE™ in Israel

Driving Change with GALMOBILE™ in Israel: Polaris Off Road continues its Ranger Stories video series in a new light with the introduction of the ‘Ranger Stories: Driving Change’ initiative.

Polaris is a firm believer that a product comes to life through its applications, partnerships but most importantly, via the people who use it; which is why once again, Polaris has embarked on a journey across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to discover and capture how its customers are driving change alongside the Polaris Ranger. Dedicated to the good that Polaris customers do, Ranger Stories: Driving Change is inspired by the many Polaris customers working hard to positively impact the world.

Episode 3 – GALMOBILE, Israel

GALMOBILE™ is a simple, effective solution to a fundamental human need: A highly capable and mobile water purification and desalination vehicle that can produce high-quality drinking water from any possible water source.

The first of its kind in the world, the GALMOBILE™ vehicle provides safe drinking water to remote islands, disaster-stricken areas, villages and towns impacted by severe drought and even for military operations – not only improving people’s lives but in a lot of cases, saving lives too.

“Drinking water is a basic human need, and we’re passionate about making it accessible for everyone, worldwide”, said Rami Aflalo, GALMOBILE™ CEO and Founder. “We saw an opportunity to innovate with the Polaris Ranger as it’s so versatile and capable off-road; it is the ideal base for our technology, enabling us to go beyond what we thought was possible. We’re incredibly proud of what the Galmobile unit is capable of, and the positive impact it’s already had on a number of communities. We will continue to innovate, and continue to grow the possibilities of this solution to help as many people as we can with efficiency and ease.”

The inventors and engineers behind GALMOBILE™ chose the Ranger Diesel as its base thanks to its reliability and durability to keep going all day long, its large 720kg payload capacity to handle the load of specialist equipment, and its powerful, economical diesel engine. What’s more, any driver around the world can easily operate the Ranger with its automatic gearbox, comfortable cab and easy driveability. Being a lightweight vehicle with small dimensions, the complete unit can be easily transported on land, by air or by sea – meaning no territories are unreachable.

A key element of the Ranger Diesel is its advanced off-road capabilities to reach difficult areas where water sources may be found. On-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) paired with 33cm ground clearance means that the team can reach areas that typically would be inaccessible, and electric power steering (EPS) allows for all-day riding without causing fatigue. It also features Polaris-installed technology like the Engine Braking System (EBS) with Active Descent Control (ADC) that controls downhill braking for smooth, controlled descents on steep declines, even when loaded with heavy equipment.

Backed by 27 years of experience in supplying water treatment and wastewater solutions, GALMOBILE™ currently operates in districts across Israel and India, but has applications worldwide. The equipment that is fitted to the Polaris Ranger features all the elements needed to provide safe drinking water: input tubes for the water source, treatment technology, storage facilities and distribution taps. It takes just 30 minutes to complete the process from input to output, and one unit can purify up to 140,000 litres a day.
