New sales manager for Reesink E-Vehicles

New sales manager for Reesink E-Vehicles: Darren Clewes is the new sales manager for Reesink e-Vehicles.

As the only distributor in the sector with a division entirely dedicated to only sustainably powered vehices, it needed an experienced manager to take it forward and ensure its growth which is where Darren comes in.

With a focus on electric and sustainable transport options, the e-Vehicles division of distributor Reesink UK, is home to innovative, award-winning, rapid-charge lithium-ion phosphate battery-powered passenger buggies and utility vehicles.

The enviromentally friendly fleet management journey is one nearly all turfcare customers are on in some shape or form, with buggies certainly at the forefront for golf clubs and leisure venues.

Darren brings 25 years of turfcare experience to the role and is a familiar face in golf. “When I realised I wasn’t going to make it as a golf pro, I delved deeper into alternative career options in the sector and I was amazed by the size and extent of it,” he says. “The opportunities, possibilities and options hooked me in.”

Specialising in sales early on, he says he’s visited “all golf clubs in the North of England” in his roles with Tacit Turf Equipment, Collier Turfcare and Allett Mowers, and it was his role with Eco Bunker that gave him his first experience of innovative and sustainable turfcare solutions.

“Through my role of Sales Manager for Eco Bunker I got a taste of working in this relatively new area and it sparked my interest, so when the role came up at Reesink e-Vehicles it instantly appealed. I could see how beneficial electric transport options were for the sector by then and I was eager for a challenge on a national level.

“To join a relatively new division brings the ambition to grow it. There’s a huge amount of potential within the dealer network and I can see the untapped areas of the market.”

The recruitment process for the role was competitive, exhaustive and essential to ensure the right candidate took on the role says Reesink’s Managing Director, Alastair Rowell: “This is one of the fastest growing sectors in the industry and a great opportunity to reach customers – new and existing – with our range of innovative solutions. Darren demonstrated he had the experience, insights and relationship management skills to continue the strong start for the division.”

Darren is now position and can be contact via Reesink head office on 01480 226800.

Having already added the IP postcode to their remit of the central and eastern regions in mid-2024, this has now been further consolidated with the incorporation of Essex and North London areas.

The extension of the George Browns Ltd area into Suffolk, Essex and North London presents a natural progression for the Redexim dealer, and the next stage of a longstanding partnership dating back to the 1980’s. Having enjoyed great success over the years, building trusted relationships with end users in our existing area, this move means we can offer our full core brand line up across all depots. We look forward to getting out and promoting a premier product that’s built to last within the fine turf industry.”

“This move is testament to the ongoing professionalism demonstrated by the George Browns Ltd team, their drive and their determination to deliver sales and industry-leading support” adds Paul Langford, Director of Commercial Operations for Redexim UK. “We are delighted to be working together even more closely in 2025 and are confident that the strength of our partnership and combined experience will be positive for customers and both parties.”

GXi8 HD for Prestwick GC

GXi8 HD for Prestwick GC: Prestwick Golf Club, the birthplace of The Open Championship, is one of Scotland’s oldest and most famous courses.

A machinery replacement budget allows Course Manager, Dave Edmondson, an injection of capital, annually, to add and replace machines.

“We made provision for the club’s 14-year-old Wiedenmann Terra Spike XF6 to retire in 2023. However, it was still doing such a clean and efficient job that I knew it could easily finish a 15th year of service, so pencilled its replacement for December 2024, instead.

“At a demo mid-summer, it took only a few minutes to choose it would be followed by a GXi8 HD. After watching it take a run across the practice chipping green on 12 mm tines, leaving such little surface disruption, I didn’t need to see anything else. The elderly XF6 was traded in very favourably; a good bit of business, all round.”

Dave joined the South Ayrshire club during 2020, appointed to his post from The Island Golf Club in Donabate, County Dublin, and heads a team of eleven.

“Prestwick is a classic links site; there’s a lot of history here. We are very traditional in our management, low input, very little fertiliser, no pesticides, aiming always for minimum disturbance.

“I plan aeration to go once; usually the last week of January, conditions allowing. We’ll do greens, tees, aprons and sections of the fairways with 12 mm tines.

“I chose the GXi8 on the basis it brings a choice to go again, maybe once or twice across the season, on the greens with smaller 8 mm tines. I don’t want to disrupt golf, and this is the best machine to suit us.”

Stuart Cameron, Area Sales Manager at Fairways GM, Wiedenmann UK’s Scottish dealer and Wiedenmann’s, lead demonstrator, Andy Kerr, installed the machine for the Prestwick team.

JCB’s hydrogen engine approved for use

JCB’s hydrogen engine approved for use: JCB has cleared significant hurdles in its development of the world’s first hydrogen combustion engine after securing landmark rulings from licensing authorities allowing it to be used commercially in machines, the company announced today.

JCB is the first construction equipment company to develop a fully working combustion engine fuelled by hydrogen and a team of 150 engineers has been working on the exciting £100 million development for over three years.

Today JCB confirmed that 11 licensing authorities across Europe have now given permission for JCB’s hydrogen engine to be sold across Europe – with authorities in other countries set to follow suit with certification in 2025.

JCB Chairman Anthony Bamford, who has led the company’s hydrogen engine project, said: “This is a very significant moment for JCB. To start the New Year with certification in place in so many European countries bodes very well for the future of hydrogen combustion technology. JCB has proved in recent years that it is a proper zero emissions solution for construction and agricultural equipment.

“This formal type approval/certification paves the way for the sale and use of hydrogen engines right across the UK and Europe. I couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the year. Most of all, I am delighted for our team of British engineers who have worked tirelessly to reach this stage.”

JCB confirmed that the Netherlands’ Vehicle Authority RDW was the first licensing authority to issue official certification, giving permission for the engine to sold in The Netherlands. Other licensing bodies across Europe have followed RDW’s lead by issuing the necessary certification, including Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Finland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. Licensing authorities in other countries are set to follow with certification during 2025.

JCB has already produced more than 130 evaluation engines which are powering backhoe loaders, Loadall telescopic handlers and generator sets. Real-world testing of JCB’s hydrogen equipment on customers’ sites is now at an advanced stage and progressing well.
