New John Deere ride-on mowers

New John Deere ride-on mowers: Among a host of new additions to the company’s lawn tractor and zero-turn mower ranges for 2021, John Deere has expanded its commercial ZTrak ZTR range to include two new petrol models and two rear-discharge decks to meet customer demand.

Offering a high-output yet compact solution for groundscare professionals, particularly when working in restricted spaces, John Deere zero-turn mowers are based on a robust, heavy-duty frame including a ROPS. The high-gauge PRO steel rotary cutting decks feature a deep mowing chamber designed to handle more grass for increased capacity. This increases airflow so that a quality cut can be achieved even when mowing at maximum speed.

The new Z740R semi-commercial mower is powered by a Kawasaki 23.5hp commercial grade petrol engine, while the Z950R commercial machine has a larger Kawasaki 27hp petrol engine and is equipped with Michelin Tweel X Turf airless radial tyres as standard (these are optional on the smaller model). Both mowers feature an adjustable operator platform and ComfortGlide suspension seat with armrests, with easy access to a quick-change height-of-cut dial and on-the-go tracking adjustments to maximise mowing performance.

The Z740R offers a choice of high-capacity 122 or 137cm (48 or 54in) side-discharge decks, while the larger Z950R is available with 137 or 152cm (54 or 60in) side-discharge and new 152cm (60in) rear-discharge decks. John Deere’s existing Stage V diesel engine zero-turn mowers, the Z994R 24.7hp and Z997R 37.4hp models, can now be fitted with a choice of 152cm (60in) side-discharge and new 152 or 183cm (60 or 72in) rear-discharge decks in addition to the previously available side-discharge options, depending on model.

The new heavy-duty rear-discharge decks employ a single-belt deck design for easy maintenance, and are mulching enabled for a cleaner finish. These have been introduced to the John Deere zero-turn mower range for the first time, specifically for those customers who require this particular configuration to meet contract requirements.

All these new zero-turn mowers also provide easy access for servicing and on-board diagnostics, while available attachments include a tool carrier, striping brush and storage tray.

Available in Europe since 2019, when they were introduced on John Deere’s ZTrak 900 Series commercial ZTR mowers, the Michelin X Tweel Turf airless radial tyre virtually eliminates tyre downtime from punctures when compared to traditional pneumatic tyres, and is almost maintenance free.

It has the same dimensions and bolt pattern as a standard tyre, but features automotive rubber technology that allows the tread to last up to three times longer. The Tweel also reduces ground compaction and increases ride quality, which is enhanced by the mowers’ ComfortGlide seat.

Vanmac Ltd, the new home for Progressive Mowers

Vanmac Ltd, the new home for Progressive Mowers: Vanmac Ltd are pleased to announce they have been appointed as full-line distributors of the Progressive range of trailed and mounted rotary mowers for the professional grounds and sports turf market.

Progressive have a long and illustrious track record for designing and manufacturing innovative, rotary finishing mowers suitable for a wide range of applications – from golf courses to sports fields, turf producers and local authorities. This, combined with Vanmac Ltd’s vast knowledge and experience in the sector through the distribution of other leading brands such as Trilo vacuum sweepers, promises to bear fruit for both parties.

With the main growing season fast approaching, of particular interest from the Progressive range – and available in the UK for the first time – will be the tri-deck TDR-X contour mower. The three independently floating decks promise to closely follow the contours of the ground, without scalping, offering a combined cutting width of 3.2m and an easily adjustable cutting height range from 9.5mm to 84.5mm. Along with other machines in the range, the TDR-X takes advantage of Progressive’s Pro Lift-N-Turn™ technology, allowing the operator to temporarily raise the decks, with the PTO still engaged, to make turning easier and increase overall productivity.

“Expanding our agreement with Progressive to cover the professional turf care market is absolutely fantastic news for Vanmac Ltd” comments Area Sales Manager Jeremy Vincent. “Their range is renowned for delivering durability and fantastic cut quality and it complements our other product lines, including Trilo and Brouwer Kesmac, fantastically. We can now offer those managing turf surfaces a comprehensive collection of equipment, together with parts service, all from under one roof. Over the next few months, we look forward to building a network of dedicated dealers to assist with the all-important back-up support and beginning demonstrations as soon as we can.”

Ventrac unveils new flail mowers

Ventrac unveils new flail mowers: Continuing their commitment to produce the highest quality accessories, Ventrac has added two Flail mowers to its growing list of dedicated attachments.

Flail mowers are a perfect choice for any overgrown area, so the new patent-pending Fine Cut and Fast Cut mowing decks are in a class of their own. With out-front mounted couplings unique to Ventrac, these attachments provide a quality finish on tall or dense areas of vegetation for fast and efficient turf management.

Add Ventrac’s capability to mow difficult areas such as slopes, wet areas, or retention pond, and these new decks will ensure an enhanced appearance for any property. Ideal for landscaping applications on slopes, wet areas and retention basins, these mowers make previously impossible turf management situations, possible.

The two available models, Fine Cut (MW series) and Fast Cut (MY series), feature unique knife choices and offer two width options for more versatility of cut, speed, and application. Cutting widths for the decks are 1.42m (56”) and 1.83m (72”) and offer the most versatility for specific property needs.

The Fine Cut Flails (MW560/MW720) are equipped with scoop knives, and will achieve a quality cut with a more finished look on grassed areas mowed between three and eight times per year.

The Fast Cut Flails (MY560/MY720) feature Y-shaped knives, for taming dense and brush-type material. The Fast Cut is an excellent choice for areas of overgrown brush and woodland margins that do not require regular mowing, while providing a superior finish to that of a typical rotary rough-cut mower.

“The introduction of these two new flail options complements our existing Tough Cut rotary mowing deck”, said Rupert Price, of Price Turfcare, the distributor of Ventrac products for the UK and Ireland. “All decks have a flip-up option for easy maintenance, enabling access to the knives for sharpening or replacement.

“Although powered by a sub-25hp Kubota diesel engine, we have enough residual power to provide a rotor speed of 3,000 rpm. This is vitally important as it’s the speed of rotor that dictates the speed and efficiency of the cutting knives and, ultimately, the quality of cut and finish.

“Ventrac has made a conscious decision to keep the power unit of their 4500 tractor unit below the 25hp emissions threshold of Tier 4 legislation. It continues to surprise end-users with the power generated by a relatively small engine and its ability to effortlessly drive each and every attachment. Very rarely do you hear a change in the engine note or experience a loss of power. It is one of the major selling points of the machine.”

Jacobsen mowers integral to Bay Hill

Jacobsen mowers integral to Bay Hill: Every March, the world’s leading golfers gather in Florida for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and they compete on a course prepared with Jacobsen mowers.

Bay Hill Golf Club and Lodge’s Director of Grounds, Chris Flynn, has been at the club since September 2014 and in that time has seen Matt Every, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, and most recently Tyler Hatton triumph.

But regardless of who comes out on top, the third-generation superintendent knows that everyone in the field expects perfection, and he gives it to them using Jacobsen.

“Bay Hill has had such a longstanding and successful relationship with Jacobsen, and Mr. Palmer personally had a long relationship with Jacobsen, and any property he was affiliated with carried the Jacobsen name with it.

“The impact of Jacobsen on what we do here year-round and especially for tournament time is beyond critical.

“If Jacobsen makes it, then it’s probably here. 22inch walk mowers, 26inch walk mowers, the triplexes, I’m a fan of the GP400s, fairway mowers, AR3, AR5, AR7s – so yeah, I can’t really think of anything that Jacobsen makes that we don’t have here and use on a daily basis.

“The Arnold Palmer Invitational is certainly one of the most tenured tournaments on the PGA Tour, and expectations are perfection. For us, it’s quite the process to do the build and set-up, it’s about a two and a half month process, and it takes about that same amount of time to break that down

“It requires additional support and equipment support, and the role Jacobsen plays in that is huge. Our mowing schedule ramps up. Mowing in the mornings and then mowing again in the afternoons, and that’s pretty much everything – tees, fairways, approaches, and greens.

“Obviously the equipment we need to rely on but then there’s the service side and having the support that we need with the equipment we have special tournament support. Having boots on the ground to help us and Jacobsen has always done an outstanding job in being there for us.

“The reliability has always been there, the reel technology is second to none, ease of maintenance and diagnosing issues when there are problems to making repairs to the ultimate use of the equipment and the quality of cut, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the assistance of Jacobsen.”

The latest edition of the tournament will be the 43rd played at Bay Hill since 1979, when it began life as the Bay Hill Citrus Classic. One hundred and twenty golfers will have the opportunity to receive the red cardigan sweater given to the winner in memory of Arnold Palmer, with twelve of the world’s top twenty-five ranked golfers among them.

AJ Mowers revamps showroom

AJ Mowers revamps showroom: Bristol-based lawnmower and groundscare machinery specialists, AJ Mowers, recently partnered with Toro to give their new showroom a restyle.

Having moved into the new premises in 2019, AJ Mowers wanted to take the opportunity this year to make the new showroom a more attractive and stylish place for potential customers. The space was reworked to primarily showcase the Hayter® and Toro® range of products, in order to represent that AJ Mowers is a partner of the two brands. Toro worked with BDH Tullford to help with the installation and construction of the new showroom.

Ashley Reid, Owner and Director at AJ Mowers said: “We have only recently formed our partnership with Hayter and Toro, but it has been going from strength to strength, and as such we wanted to clearly showcase ourselves as dealers of Hayter and Toro machines.

“We were extremely happy with the work that was done in our new showroom. We started with an onsite planning meeting with the team at Toro to discuss what we all wanted to achieve from the project. The team at Toro then came back with a presentation of concepts and ideas on what we could do in the showroom.

“The ideas that were presented back to us were brilliant and we wanted to get started on the project straight away. In no time the team was in the showroom installing Hayter and Toro-branded POS, signage, wall imagery displaying the products, as well as a clever solution to integrating our parts storage within the overall design.”

Ashley went to on to explain how working with Hayter and Toro has really benefitted the dealership and its customers. “Both brands have always had a major focus on quality, and this is demonstrated through the performance of their machines, but also through their services – being able to get hold of parts so easily is a real advantage.”

“Working with golf courses forms a large part of our customer base, and with Toro being a major player in the golf course maintenance industry, it made sense to partner with Toro. On the domestic side, Hayter is the perfect brand for us to represent. British made and a household name, domestic customers always enjoy seeing our Hayter collection.”

Ashleigh Bradshaw, Marketing Associate from Hayter and Toro, who worked alongside Ashley on the showroom project, said: “It was a real pleasure to work with the team at AJ Mowers to help show off their new showroom. The project went extremely smoothly and was completed in just two days – a testament to the hard work from everyone involved.

“We look forward to continuing to work with AJ Mowers in the future.”
