DLF announce new ‘Showcase’ facility

DLF announce new ‘Showcase’ facility: Work is underway on a brand new ‘Showcase’ facility at DLF’s UK headquarters in Inkberrow, Worcestershire. Scheduled to be fully operational by Spring 2025, the Showcase sees six hectares dedicated to amenity seed trials, product development, training and education for staff, distributors and customers – making it one of the largest of its kind in the UK.

Alongside plots sown with current cultivars and mixtures, the Showcase will have an area dedicated to new and upcoming developments giving visitors the chance to exclusively see and compare future trial and demo formulations. It will also be the base for a sizeable programme of UK testing which feeds into the global picture of climate and disease tolerance trials, ensuring that the mixtures of tomorrow are the most resistant, fit for purpose and sustainable to tackle the environmental challenges faced in the amenity market.

Centre to the Showcase will be a sports zone, featuring a hybrid winter sports pitch, cricket wicket, tennis court and small-scale golf tee, fairway and green, sown with mixtures from across the DLF portfolio by specialist contactors Fineturf who were commissioned with the construction. Having worked with many of the UK’s leading sporting venues including Lords Cricket Ground, AELTC and Tottenham Hotspur FC, Fineturf were the ideal fit for the project, utilising the very latest in their hybrid turf technology.

Commenting on the work, Amenity Sales & Marketing Manager Derek Smith said, “It’s incredibly exciting to see the start of what promises to be an industry-leading facility and asset to the Johnsons Sports Seed, Masterline and MM Seed brands. A big thank you to the Fineturf team for their work to date, and over the next six months we look forward to the construction of new conference facilities and the continued extension of the sample plots to give us a fully-functioning training centre come the Spring.”

The exciting news is the latest in a programme of ongoing investment by the world’s leading grass seed breeders. The end of 2023 saw the installation of Inkberrow’s new £3.5m ‘Titan’ mixing plant technology, together with recent expansion of DLF’s UK native wild flower production which now spans an area of over 80 acres.

Further updates on the project are expected in the new year.

Birkdale’s new light grey urban slatted panel

Birkdale’s new light grey urban slatted panel: Birkdale, the UK’s leading fencing and gate accessories manufacturer, has added a new colour to its DuraPost® URBAN Slatted Composite Panel range. Developed in response to customer demand – the new Light Grey Panel offers a contemporary fencing solution that mimics the appearance of timber without any of the maintenance requirements.

Already available in Natural, Charcoal and Brown, the new Light Grey DuraPost® URBAN Slatted Panel consists of six composite boards and two horizontal u-shaped rails at the top and base of the panel. The boards are manufactured using 60 to 70% recycled materials including a combination of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and rice husks – a natural bi-product from the rice industry. This stable material will not warp or degrade over time, unlike timber, and it does not need to be painted or treated.

Furthermore, the panels have been tested to EN 1794-1-2018 and, to maximise longevity, the rails are made from galvanised steel – a strong, light and highly durable material – which is then nano-coated and powder coated for ultimate weather protection. As a result, Birkdale can guarantee its DuraPost® URBAN Slatted Panels for up to 15 years.

What’s more, the versatile panels can be used either horizontally or vertically. When paired with DuraPost® steel fence posts, a striking and contemporary solution can be achieved that will continue to look good long after traditional timber and concrete fencing systems have degraded.

John Abernethie, CEO at Birkdale, commented: “We are delighted to expand our stylish DuraPost® URBAN Slatted Panel range to provide even greater design flexibility. We highly value customer feedback and are always looking to improve and evolve our fencing range to ensure that we offer everything required to build a long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing fencing solution.”

Visitors to the STIHL stand will get the chance to see the new MS 400.1 in action at STIHLs extensive demonstration plot. Despite the similarity in model name, the MS 400.1 has been completely re-developed, building on the strengths of the original MS 400 and taking it to the next level.

The MS 400.1 weighs in at just 5.5 kg, 300 g less than the MS 400, offering professionals the best power-to-weight ratio of any professional petrol chainsaw on the market. With an impressive power output of 3.9kW, the MS 400.1 is optimised for long days in the forest, felling and processing larger trees.

In addition, STIHL will be presenting its first professional battery-powered pruner, specifically designed for tree care. The GTA 40 combines low weight and compact design with excellent cutting performance, resulting in a machine that excels at pruning on the ground, as well as maintenance and corrective pruning by trained climbing arborists.

Complete with a 6” STIHL Light 01 guide bar with low friction sprocket nose, and a narrow STIHL 1/4″ Picco Micro 3 saw chain, the GTA 40 ensures high cutting performance and a smooth cutting result.

The STIHL team will be on stand 650 from 9am to 6pm throughout the duration of the event for product demonstrations, advice and guidance on all STIHL machines.

The all new DPB-2500

The all new DPB-2500: ECHO have launched the DPB-2500 power blower – the latest addition to the 56v eFORCE range. Perfect for medium duty use by professional gardeners, the blower is packed with features that make it effective and comfortable to use in a wide range of different applications.

First and foremost, the DPB-2500 is a very capable handheld blower. It has a blowing force of 16N at an impressive 65.9m/s. All this from a machine that weighs just 2.6kg (without battery).

For larger clearing jobs, there is a throttle-lock ‘cruise control’ setting, which reduces operator hand fatigue during longer working sessions. When precision is required, the highly tactile, variable speed throttle allows for refined, feathered control of the air flow – giving you the ability to accurately steer leaves and debris wherever you want.  A ‘boost’ function helps things a long when blowing clumped leaves or heavier material.

Rubber, over-molded handle grips provide the user with comfortable control – with or without gloves; and dual-sided air intakes eliminate blockages caused by trouser fabric getting sucked against the inlets. Being an ECHO tool, there is near perfect weight distribution, making the DPB-2500 comfortable to operate over long periods of time.

The ECHO DPB-2500 is available now from ECHO dealers nationwide and is priced at £299 (inc-VAT).

The Verti-Air® range of PTO-driven blowers marks a logical extension of the Redexim portfolio, catering to the leaf and debris clearance requirements of those working in the golf and sports turf markets, together with local authorities and other green space managers. Three models make up the range, including the Verti-Air® 7 – a compact and lightweight blower with a reverse exhaust nozzle which can be operated from the driver’s seat. The high-power of the Verti-Air® 7 combined with ease of adjustment and manoeuvrability makes the unit ideal for leaf clearance on golf course pathways, roadside verges or carparks.

Also on stand OSA230 will be a selection of machines from the Redexim landscaping range, including the Multivator 1800. Featuring a roller equipped with nine durable carbide-tipped blades spaced at 200mm, the Multivator decompacts and simultaneously lifts and recycles the existing soil and rootzone material to provide an environmentally-effective method of topdressing.

With a comprehensive collection of mechanical solutions to the environmental problems faced by the turf managers of today, a stop by the Redexim stand is a must for all of those in attendance across the 10th and 11th September.
