New area sales manager for Agrovista Amenity

New area sales manager for Agrovista Amenity: Tom Weaver has been announced as the new Central Area Sales Manager for Agrovista Amenity.

Tom initially started his career as a greenkeeper and quickly worked his way up to the position of course manager. He credits his greenkeeping experience for helping to shape his career path and claims that he was proud to once have been ‘on the tools.’

At the age of 28 he became a sales advisor for Pitchcare, where he began advising greenkeepers and turf managers on various products – many of which he had previously used. Tom made an impact, and it wasn’t long before he was overseeing the internal sales team.

It was a period in his career that he will always remember fondly.

“For me, the biggest achievement was the team ethos that we have created,” he said.

“We’ve been on a journey together and the department is now such a well-oiled machine.

We’ve got staff ranging in age from 21 to 65, who are all pushing in the same direction – it’s great to see and even better to be a part of.”

Based in Allscott, Telford, Tom will still be leading the internal turf team but in addition he will also be focussing on the external side of the business.

“It is not a case of reinventing the wheel because the external team is the best in the business,” said Tom. “I’m there to offer support and to ensure that I’m always available on the other end of the phone if they need advice or solutions.

“I’m sure there be will lots of twists and turns in the road ahead, but that is part of the job and I fully intend on successfully overcoming any challenges. In terms of my direct line of management I could not ask for much more – my relationship with Dan Hughes (Head of Commercial) and John Marland (Head of Amenity) is very strong and it’s always nice to have their support.

“2022 has the potential to be hugely successful and I truly believe we can do great things here.”

Commenting on Tom’s appointment, Dan Hughes said: “Tom joins an exceptionally talented and experienced Area Management team of James Watson (South) and Ramsay MacGregor (North). Despite still being relatively young, Tom brings a wealth of agronomy skill and proven management experience to the role. At heart Tom is an industry person, sports enthusiast and a conscientious team player who will strengthen our business and engagement with customers.”

Fentons of Bourne a new Etesia dealer

Fentons of Bourne a new Etesia dealer: Etesia UK is delighted to welcome Fentons of Bourne to its vast dealer network.

Fentons of Bourne, a local family-owned business situated between Bourne and Market Deeping, is the most recent company to join the Etesia dealer network. Supplying high-performance equipment and garden maintenance, Fentons of Bourne continues to go from strength to strength and has recently bolstered in two key areas.

“We have stopped domestic business and have instead decided to go down the professional and commercial route,” said Glen Bellamy, Managing Director. “In addition, we have also focussed on increasing the hire side of the business, and we feel the Etesia brand will fit nicely into both of these.”

Fentons of Bourne will be offering the full range of Etesia products in the areas of South Lincolnshire, North Cambridgeshire, and some parts within the Norfolk border.

Etesia has been leading the way in building high quality grass cutting machinery for both the professional and domestic market since 1989. Over the years the company has grown rapidly and now offers a wide range of products that include a variety of walk-behind, ride-on mowers, green technology, the popular Attila range of brush cutters and the all-new award-winning ET Lander electric utility vehicle.

“I’ve been familiar with the Etesia brand for many years, and I have been speaking to the company for about 15 years,” continued Glen. “It now felt like the ideal time to become an Etesia dealer because it fits in perfectly with everything we do.

“They are great commercial products, no one can say otherwise. The machines are well built and rightly so, they command a better price. We are looking at targeting schools and colleges, where there is a big need for products such as those from Etesia. Furthermore, many of our customers have older Etesia pedestrian mowers which could do with upgrading. We feel it is time for them to see just how far the brand has developed because they will see the benefits.”

As well as being optimistic about the products, Glen revealed that he is looking forward to working more closely with Ian Collington – Area Sales Manager for Etesia UK.

“With Ian we know his phone is always on and he is there to support us. To be honest it is nice to see that we have an area manager that still has a van with some kit in it and is prepared to get his hands dirty! That goes a long way in my book.”

STIHL’s plans for new HQ

STIHL’s plans for new HQ: STIHL GB has unveiled plans to build a new 11,500m2 purpose-designed headquarters and state-of-the-art warehouse facility near to its current premises in Camberley, Surrey.

Due for completion in December 2022, the site will be home to nearly 100 employees and will boast dedicated dealer training facilities, an on-site restaurant, flexible collaborative workspaces and a technical workshop.

The new 9,000m2 warehouse space will utilise state-of-the-art picking and storage systems to maximise productivity, efficiency and the use of space. All logistics will now be consolidated onto one site, meaning a speedier and more efficient delivery service to the 700 strong STIHL dealer network.

Kay Green, Managing Director of STIHL GB, commented: “STIHL has enjoyed a sustained period of growth in recent years, and as a consequence we have outgrown our existing warehouse and office facilities. Our new purpose-built headquarters represents a significant capital investment and is a commitment to the future for our dealers and end user customers. We’re looking forward to seeing work get underway on the construction of our new premises early in the New Year”.

The new HQ, which secured planning permission last year, boasts first class environmental credentials including BREEAM Certification, the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for building projects.

It is proposed that two-thirds of the total roof area (1600m2) will be covered with photovoltaic solar panels to provide power to the new facility. In addition, there will be provision for 26 EV charging points in anticipation of the continued move towards the use of electric vehicles.

The new headquarters will also be connected to Blackwater railway station by a dedicated cycle path and will feature landscaped gardens with native shrubs and trees and a wildflower meadow which forms part of an integrated flood risk mitigation zone on the former Thames Water Utilities site.

The company aims to relocate to the new facility from its current premises in Stanhope Road in January 2023.

Makita launches two new machines

Makita launches two new machines: Leading power tool manufacturer Makita UK has extended its powerful XGT 40VMax range of machinery with the launch of the DA001G Brushless Angle Drill and DG001G Brushless Earth Auger.

DA001G XGT 40VMax Brushless Angle Drill

The DA001G is a powerful addition to any toolbox. It delivers a no-load speed of up to 1,500rpm and a maximum torque of 136nm, offering outstanding performance for heavy load applications. The DA001G features two mechanical gears and variable speed control, so operators can easily adjust the output to suit the task in hand.

To ensure efficiency, the DA001G includes Makita’s innovative Automatic Torque Drive Technology that works to automatically adjust the output according to the load conditions. The inclusion of a torque limiter also protects the machine from mechanical overload and damage, and the operator if the bit gets jammed when drilling during high-demand tasks.

To ensure user comfort and safety, the DA001G can be used with either a front or side handle. It also features an auto power off function which shuts down the machine if it is idle for extended periods, protecting the user from accidental injury.

DG001G XGT 40VMax Brushless Earth Auger

For high performance earth boring with even and consistent holes for fence posts, landscaping, construction and soil sampling, the DG001G is up to the task. Comparable to a 36cc engine product, this XGT 40VMax machine has a no-load speed of up to 1,500rpm and a maximum drilling capacity of 200mm. It also delivers up to 136nm of torque. With two mechanical speeds to choose from, operators can easily drill into high or low resistance soil – and the reverse switch makes extracting the machine effortless.

For improved user handling, the earth auger attachment includes a bar which receives reaction force and an auxiliary handle which makes drilling holes easier. The DG001G also features Makita’s Automatic Torque Drive Technology which works to ensure that the machine is always working at its optimum.

As with all XGT machines, the DA001G and DG001G both benefit from the inclusion of Makita’s brushless motor. As there are no moving parts in the motor causing friction, no energy is lost through heat production and tool run time is extended, maximising user productivity. Brushless motors also do not need regular maintenance or replacement parts, which keeps the lifetime cost of the machine to a minimum.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita said: “For any construction professional, having a range of powerful cordless machines to hand is key to ensuring maximum on-site efficiency and productivity – especially when embarking on high-demand applications. Our XGT range has been specifically designed to tackle these tasks without compromising on battery run time, so users can keep working disruption free for longer.”
