Kubota brings new machines to SALTEX

Kubota brings new machines to SALTEX: Kubota will present an extensive range of new machines at Saltex 2021, with plenty for visitors to investigate at the UK’s first major indoor groundcare exhibition for two years.

Since October 2020, Kubota has introduced a number of new product lines, and the Grounds Management Association’s event, held at the NEC, Birmingham, will offer the opportunity to see them ‘in the metal’ on stand C070.

Heading up the launches is the new LX Series, a range of multi-purpose compact tractors from 35-40hp, that allow users to handle a wide variety of tasks ranging from mowing and snow clearance to materials handling and cultivations. With an impressive lift capacity, optional front loader, front linkage and pto, this is a tractor for all seasons.

The recently upgraded L Series is also represented, now equipped with Kubota Stage V engines and a stylish new look.

Kubota’s mowing equipment is the mainstay of leading grounds maintenance contractors and local authorities across the country, and latest addition to the renowned F Series front mowers, the 38hp F391, will be revealed offering unmatched output and performance for commercial mowing.

The new G Series ride-on mowers have had an outstanding reception across the industry, and Kubota will launch the G261 RD, with rear discharge deck and optional mulching, which offers high work rates and quality of cut for operations that do not require collection, while still capable of accessing restricted areas.

In addition to a selection of Kubota’s extensive established groundcare machinery and examples of the implement range, a mini excavator from the company’s construction range, renowned as essential tools for renovation and development projects, will also be on show.

Kubota maintains an excellent working relationship with Baroness, sharing many of the same dealers, and examples of the fine turf specialist’s mowing range can also be seen on the stand.

Two new Pellenc innovations at SALTEX

Two new Pellenc innovations at SALTEX: Pellenc, the world’s leading expert in battery-powered tools for maintaining landscapes, will be proudly showcasing two new innovations on stand C085 at SALTEX 2021.

Light, odourless, noise-free, with no starting problems and enough power to enable professional users to work for a full day on a single charge, it’s no wonder more and more professional users are turning to Pellenc.

The ever-expanding Pellenc product portfolio consists of chainsaws, blowers, hedge cutters, pole saws, road sweepers, grass strimmers and mowers – offering a solution for every requirement.

A variety of these products will be on display at SALTEX 2021 with a particular focus on two of Pellenc’s latest innovations, which address the questions of Petrol Vs battery power.

Excelion V2 Brushcutter

This new high powered brush cutter delivers the equivalent of 70cc of power, as much as some of the largest petrol machines on the market, it can easily cope with clearance work and is just as happy on maintenance duties at lower speeds, with a rotational speed of 6,600rpm and a cutting diameter of 420mm, the Excelion V2 battery-powered brushcutter offers superior performance for professional intensive landscaping and forestry work.

Weighing 30% less than petrol-powered brushcutters, it also has a newly designed smart handle that enables agile manoeuvring and displays digital information in real-time including current speed, battery life (as a percentage and in minutes) and power indicator.

The Excellion V2 is available in two versions – loop handle and cow handle. Each come standard with the new ‘smart’ control allowing the user to select the ‘head’ while in use. This then allows the brushcutter to adjust the power for different types of work, enabling users to complete brush clearing, weeding, mulching, sawing or mowing thick vegetation.

As an added benefit the Excelion V2 comes with IP54 water-proof rating, and its battery life lasts up to three hours of continual use.

Airion Backpack Blower

The Airion Backpack blower is the most powerful battery-powered backpack blower on the market. With an airflow of 1,280m³/h and a thrust of 24N, its performance is suitable for day-to-day road green space maintenance work in all seasons.

With its wide, thick shoulder straps and integrated adjustable belt, the Airion Backpack blower offers great comfort during prolonged working sessions. Its inclined pivot gives full freedom of movement with the nozzle, allowing manoeuvrability reminiscent of a hand-held blower. Its handle can also be adjusted to the user’s height with all controls are always within easy reach.

The large backlit display on the smart handle provides the user with real-time information including current speed, battery life (as a percentage and in minutes), option currently selected (boost and cruise control) and time worked on the current work site.

The Airion Backpack’s design optimises its aerodynamic efficiency by 15% compared to competing tools and its battery life has been extended up to three hours – depending on the battery used.

As with other tools in the Pellenc range, the Airion Backpack blower comes with IP54 water-proof rating and can be fitted with three different nozzles depending on usage – angled, angled-flat or flat.

Dunblane New replaces the old

Dunblane New replaces the old: Dunblane New Golf Club’s course is located in the centre of the cathedral city of Dunblane in one of the most picturesque areas of Perthshire. The course’s elevated position provides beautiful panoramic views over the Forth Valley, the Campsie Fells and beyond, including Stirling Castle, the Southern Highlands and the peaks of Ben Lomond and Ben Ledi.

The ‘New’ name came about because until 1922 golf was played on a small nine-hole course adjoining the River Allan on what is now a public park. History states that play started on the new course in April 1923, after a horse, cart and harness with a roller box and two mowers were bought and Mr J C Ross was appointed as greenkeeper at £3 10s a week.

Almost 100 years on, course manager Wes Saunders has taken delivery of 11 new machines from local dealer Double A, the club’s first John Deere fleet deal, as part of an ongoing landscaping and maintenance programme designed to continue the enduring quality and appeal of the course to members and visitors.

The latest fleet comprises two 2750E triplex and three 220E walk-behind hybrid electric greens mowers, two 7700A PrecisionCut fairway mowers, 9009A and 7400A utility TerrainCut rotary mowers, plus a Tru-Turf RB70 greens roller and a Campey Turf Care Air2g2 air injection machine.

These were bought using a tailored John Deere Financial agreement with six-year PowerGard Protection plans for full maintenance and servicing, allowing the club to have a fixed machinery budget with no extra costs. This is the first part of a replacement programme that Wes and Double A’s golf key accounts manager John Bateson are working through together, with tractors and utility vehicles being looked at this year to complete the fleet.

Originally hailing from Sydney, Australia where he did his greenkeeping apprenticeship at Elanora Country Club north of the city, Wes Saunders has 27 years’ experience working on golf courses across the world. After leaving his home country, he spent several years in the US and Canada before joining Dunblane New Golf Club six years ago as course manager.

“I first put a proposal to the club two years ago to update the equipment fleet, but the timing wasn’t quite right for the finance so the idea was postponed for a year,” says Wes. “The board then agreed what we could spend on a monthly basis and we held a competitive tender with the main manufacturers, bringing in various machines for demonstrations and assessment by the greenkeeping team.

“We made the decision based on whether the kit was fit for purpose, our likes and dislikes, serviceability and previous history with the suppliers. We chose John Deere, not just on price – although that was a prime consideration – but also on the key aspects of quality and reliability of the equipment and, most importantly, the strong relationship with the Double A dealership and their parts and service backup. The terms from John Deere Financial were also very flexible, which enabled us to get what we needed to meet the club’s budget.

“All the machines were in place by the end of April this year, and everything’s working out a treat now. We use the 2750E hybrid electric triplex mowers to cut the greens for most of the year, and the 220E walk-behinds for special tournaments when we need a little more refinement in the finish, then these are used on the greens throughout the winter.

“The new A Model mower technology is also proving particularly useful – even though we’re still experimenting a little with its capabilities, the use of the programmable TechControl system to achieve the desired results consistently across the course is proving to be a game-changer.

“Overall I am very pleased with the performance of the new machines. We have quickly seen improvements to the course as well as labour savings with the extra control provided by the new mowers’ advanced technology features.”

New welding jobs at JCB

New welding jobs at JCB: JCB is recruiting 100 new welders for its Staffordshire factories as demand for its products continues to soar, the company announced today.

The recruitment drive has just got underway for the permanent jobs at JCB’s World Headquarters and its plants in Cheadle and Uttoxeter.

In September, JCB will also welcome an additional 15 new recruits on to its fabrication and welding apprenticeship. In the past three years, almost 70 welding apprentices have passed their courses – and all gained permanent JCB jobs.

The news comes as demand for JCB machines reaches historic highs with most products now sold out until next year. It also comes in a year when JCB has recruited 1,350 new shop floor employees and handed permanent JCB contracts to 1,000 agency employees.

JCB Chief Operating Officer Mark Turner said: “Over the past five years the number of welders in the UK has shrunk, which presents businesses with a big challenge at times of high demand. JCB has been working very hard over the past few years to tackle this shortage and attract new entrants to this highly-skilled job with its apprenticeship and training programmes, which have been very successful. We are delighted to be building on that success with the creation of 100 permanent new welders’ jobs. We offer some of the best conditions and pay rates in the region and with opportunities for nightshift work and overtime, this is great news for welders in the area looking to join a successful global company.”
