Jacobsen begins a new era

Jacobsen begins a new era: Jacobsen has started a new era of end-user focused products with the launch of the AR530 rough mower.

The AR range has been redesigned from the ground up with the focus on re-establishing Jacobsen’s commitment to engineering best in class mowers with their famous quality of cut.

Jacobsen begins a new era

To achieve this, customers and dealers participated in one of the largest ever research programmes commissioned at Jacobsen to establish the everyday challenges greenkeepers and groundsmen face. The results focused on features, quality and durability. These were crucial elements in the design process for Jacobsen Product Manager, Lee Frie.

Lee explained: “We had a machine that did well in the market, and we learnt a lot in seven years, so this was really a ground-up redesign of a good machine that we wanted to make better.

“We wanted to improve the experience of cutting with the AR and the results you get from it, and I think operators are going to find quite a bit different about this machine. We’ve improved the cut quality as well as the after cut appearance with grass clipping dispersal. We’ve also improved the traction system, so it does a fantastic job of climbing and side hill performance.

“The ergonomics are greatly improved, and it’s much easier for operators to get on and off because you don’t have to climb over the units. All of the controls are at the user’s finger tips, so it’s very easy to operate, and I think they are going to see a vast improvement.”

Nothing has been taken for granted during the redesign, and that includes the quality of cut. The new AR models are available with five or seven floating 58cm articulated contour rotary decks, with the AR530 providing a cutting width of 2.3m and the AR730 – which is due to launch in September 2020 – 3.15m.

The new TrueDeckÔ design uses smaller decks to follow tight undulations and provides the best power per width of cut ratio on the market. This eliminates clumping and produces a better after cut appearance while height of cut adjustments can be made quickly and easily.

To harness the cut quality, the traction system has been enhanced to a best in class standard using SureTrac IIÔ 4WD. This parallel-cross diversion hydraulically powered traction system, with momentary 4WD differential lock, provides superior traction when climbing difficult contours and slide slopes by transferring power from the wheel that slips to the one that grips. Using this system allows the AR to glide over hilly terrain with acute undulations while giving an even cut by utilising the weight transfer system.

The sound level of the machine has been lowered to make it quieter for the operator and to reduce passer-by noise. Vibration has also been looked at in detail. Overall operator exposure to vibration is a health and safety requirement but that aside it is often a subtle thing, and it can make users feel tired during their working day, but with the reduced vibration levels, using the AR minimises operator fatigue.

The seat position and  InCommand II control system have all been adjusted for maximum comfort and productivity while the new step design has been installed to make getting on and off the machine significantly easier.

All of these features have been combined into a Stage V compliant unit that has been assembled with a commitment to high-quality engineering and a promise of outstanding performance and service.

Bobcat appoints new dealer

Bobcat appoints new dealer: Bobcat has appointed Peterborough-based RTC Plant Services Ltd (www.rtcplant.com) as the new Authorised Bobcat dealer for Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire in the UK.

RTC is now responsible for sales and service of the market-leading range of Bobcat skid-steer, compact track and all-wheel steer loaders, mini-excavators, telehandlers and attachments in the construction, rental, landscaping and industrial markets in the three counties.

Tom Calton, Managing Director of RTC Plant Services Ltd, said: “As one of the region’s largest independent sales, parts and service dealers, we bring a lot of local knowledge, expertise, experience and enthusiasm to selling and supporting the Bobcat range in these areas. Both I and my fellow Director, Dave Ellis, who heads up the sales side,  believe there are many fantastic opportunities to expand sales for Bobcat in this region in construction and rental markets as well as many other areas.”

A New University and Good Prospects

The fact that RTC has already been able to complete several sales of Bobcat mini-excavators so soon after being appointed bears this out – with a number of existing customers switching to Bobcat from other brands.

With the go-ahead being given for its first university to be built in the embankment area of Peterborough and new developments in infrastructure and other sectors, prospects are good not only in Peterborough, but also in the university city of Cambridge. Similar developments are underway and being proposed in towns such as Northampton and Corby in Northamptonshire and in Bedford and St Neots in Bedfordshire.

Ewen Gilchrist, Network Development Manager UK & Nordics for Doosan Bobcat EMEA, said: “From their outstanding facilities in the centre of Peterborough combined with good transport links, we are confident that RTC will provide the best possible service for both new and existing Bobcat customers in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. RTC has great local knowledge and a drive and passion for the Bobcat range that can only bring further success.”

The RTC 1996 Group: There’s Nothing We Can’t Service or Repair

Formed in 1996, RTC Plant Services is part of the group, RTC 1996 Ltd, along with its sister companies, RTC Hire Ltd and RTC Groundcare Ltd. Starting from a one man in a van business, RTC has grown rapidly into a highly professional organisation, supplying customers within a 100-mile radius of Peterborough.

As well as the Bobcat range of machines and attachments, RTC also offers a full selection of genuine Bobcat accessories and parts to support both new and existing Bobcat customers in its area. This is backed up by a stock of both brand new and second hand Bobcat machines for sale. Customers also benefit from RTC’s on-site service network, covering everything from emergency repairs to routine maintenance.

Tom Calton added: “We have four fully equipped service vans that allow our service engineers to visit customer’s premises and work sites throughout the region. We also have Class 2 trucks and other smaller lorries. From diggers to telehandlers, there’s nothing we can’t service or repair. Our fully equipped service department, with time served engineers, is more than capable of making sure that customers’ equipment is fully serviced and repaired.

“We also have a second to none parts department to cater for all parts requirements. With thousands of parts in stock, we can offer a prompt delivery service. Any parts that are not stocked we can usually get on an overnight service for dispatch the next day.”

The Bobcat Range

Bobcat offers 12 skid-steer loader models, complementing these wheeled machines with a selection of six compact track loaders.

The Bobcat mini-excavator range comprises 18 models with operating weights from 0.8 to 8.5 tonne, with the newest additions including the innovative R(Revolutionary)-Series models from 2-4 tonne.

The range of machines from Bobcat is completed by a choice of fifteen standard rigid frame telehandler models (as well as four models available as new Waste Expert telehandlers) and four rotary telehandlers, covering maximum lifting capacities between 2.6 and 5.0 tonne and maximum lifting heights from 6.0 to 24.1 m.

For use with these machines and covering a massive array of applications, Bobcat offers a market-leading range of over 130 different families of attachments, from angle brooms, augers, breakers, buckets, snow blowers to planers, trenchers and wheelsaws.

ECHO’s new low emission chainsaw

ECHO’s new low emission chainsaw: ECHO has launched the CS-621SX heavy-duty rear handle chainsaw. The new saw is a reduced emissions version of their best-selling CS-620SX, yet it retains all the power and dependability of its predecessor.

This is a chainsaw built for arborists and landscaping professionals who use this type of saw daily for felling large trees.

The CS-621SX boasts a new 59.8cc low emission, professional-grade 2-stroke ECHO engine, designed and manufactured in Japan. It is the latest chainsaw in the ECHO X-series of ‘Best in Class’ products which aim to be industry-leading in terms of power and performance. The saw is packed with advanced features to help the commercial operator power through their work. For a heavy-duty saw, it is surprisingly lightweight at only 6.3kg (dry weight) but that doesn’t take anything away from its cutting performance, which exceeds that of many higher capacity machines.  Its balance and ergonomic design offer manoeuvrability and precision, with dual bumper spikes enabling better control when sawing through stumps and thicker branches.

The CS-621SX is a superior saw in every respect, say ECHO, with its range of additional features designed to make the working day easier and more productive. There’s a decompression button for easy starting, a side-access chain tensioner and drop prevention nuts which can’t be lost during maintenance. A rotating plastic chain catcher is designed to help protect the user from potential injury while also preventing chain damage.   The heavy-duty aluminum handle has a secure rubber grip and reduces vibration in the hand. Fuel and oil caps are made larger for easier filling and the fuel tank is translucent to show the fuel level. The ‘G-FORCE’ air cleaner system features a large air filter to keep out debris.

It all adds up to a powerful, durable and heavy-duty chainsaw built to ECHO’s usual exacting specifications, which is borne out by a two-year professional or five-year domestic warranty. You can find out more from your local authorised ECHO dealer.

New drainage at Cleator Moor

New drainage at Cleator Moor: Cleator Moor Celtic Football Club has employed Duncan Ross Ltd to complete the first of two stages of drainage work as the club aims to increase the usage of their stadium pitch.

The North West Counties Football League (NWCFL) Division One North side gained promotion to the league in the 2017/18 season and took the additional funding opportunities available to a Step 6 football team to improve their pitch.

In the past five seasons the club – like other teams in the area – struggled with postponements during the winter, limiting the opportunities for 14 teams outside their first team to play on the stadium pitch.

Promotion meant the money available to them from the Football Stadium Improvement Fund increased from £20k to £100k. This was combined with grants from the Copeland Enabling Fund, Copeland Community Fund, United Utilities Legacy Funding and money raised by the club, all of which has already begun to make a difference.

“Drainage has been a big issue for us because we’re in one of the wettest parts of the country you could be in,” Cleator Moor Celtic FC committee member, David Graham explained. “The pitch was predominately clay, so the drainage was really, really poor. Going back five years or so before we got involved with the pitch improvement programme, we could go weeks on end without playing games, particularly in the worst parts of the winter, so we could go three or four weeks at a time without playing a home game.

“Being able to get more of our teams playing on the main pitch is what we wanted. We’re also hoping to prevent fixture congestion like we’ve had in previous seasons where our first team would get to April and play Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and again on Saturday.

“We’ve wanted to improve the pitch for some time, and we’ve been working towards it for five years. Initially we sought advice from Craig Lewis at the Cumberland FA who put us in touch with Ian Mather-Brewster from the IOG, and he’s been a massive part of this project since getting us started on the Football Association’s Pitch Improvement Programme five seasons ago.

“He, along with Dale Firth from Professional Sportsturf Design and Duncan Ross, have been instrumental in putting the two-stage drainage plan together and we’re hoping to see a big improvement during this season after having the pitch levelled and the primary piped drainage installed. We’re 100% happy with the drainage and construction work Duncan and his team have done, and we’re looking forward to completing the project in the summer.”

Stage one was completed 10th July 2019 after 320 ton of sand, and 200 ton of soil were used to level the field in preparation for the primary piped drainage to be installed. A soakaway was also constructed by the Duncan Ross team as part of this stage before stage two commences in May 2020.
