Engcon supplies tiltrotators

Engcon supplies tiltrotators: With its 17 tons and a raw power engine of 255 horsepower, the Euromach R145 can call itself the world’s largest spider excavator. Able to perform all conceivable functions from one and the same position whilst climbing steep terrain. And to help improve efficiency, it has now been equipped with an Engcon tiltrotator.

”It is fantastic fun that we get to deliver our tiltrotator to the world’s largest spider excavator”, says Peter Högberg, from Sales at Engcon International.

The Italian firm Euromach manufactures spider excavators in sizes ranging from 1.5 tons up to 17 tons. They are specially built to be able to climb and function on steep terrain where conventional wheel and crawler excavators could not reach. The collaboration with Euromach has taken place via Engcon’s Italian dealer Spektra.

”Antonio Stucci of Spektra’s sales team and I have together specified an EC219 tiltrotator that fits the machine perfectly”, Peter Högberg continues.

A flexible climber with many smart features
The Euromach R145, also called the Big Foot, has four hydraulic and wheeled “legs” that can be pulled in and extended independently of each other both in width and length. This gives a working width from 2430 – 4740 mm and the length can vary from 5900 – 6700 mm. This makes Big Foot an agile climber and despite its weight, can be applied in ways few other vehicles could match.

When the machine is not standing still on its wheels, extra claws can be unfolded and with the help of this function, Big Foot can “claw” itself into the slopes. Once you are in place with the machine, for example deep down in a valley, it is seldom possible to reposition the machine and then the tiltrotator will come in handy. Because the tiltrotator acts as the machine’s wrist, Big Foot can easily rotate to the desired position.

”Euromach believe that with our tiltrotator, the driver can perform all conceivable functions from one and the same position, which makes the world’s largest spider excavator even more efficient and flexible”, says Peter Högberg.

SCH Supplies Entrepreneur

SCH Supplies Entrepreneur: In 1987, entrepreneur Andrew Rodwell noticed a gap in the market when he became frustrated at the lack of suitable lawn care attachments to fit to his garden tractor.  With the help and encouragement of Malcolm Vandenburgh at Wests Engineering Ltd, the pair set about designing and manufacturing a range of grass care machinery. Before long, SCH (Supplies) Ltd was created and began selling machinery to the public from their workshop in Holbrook, Suffolk. Malcolm later continued with his core business at Wests.

To market and grow the company, SCH attended many garden machinery shows cross the country, talking to potential customers and machinery dealers, who sell products on behalf of SCH. As of 2019, SCH have over 800 machinery dealers across the UK and Europe, who drive the majority of SCH’s sales.

Andrew has always encouraged his staff for input on the companies’ products, which has been an essential driving factor to their profile of over 250 machines, ranging from grass care and flail mowers to trailers and leaf collectors. There is a wide range of experience at SCH, as their 25 employees design, manufacture and deliver their products themselves.

After reaching the grand age of 80 last December, Andrew has decided to hand the reigns over to two of his long term employees, Ian Holder and John Free, as he takes a well-earned retirement. He’s happy to be leaving the thriving company with an annual turnover in excess of £1.5 million.

Ian and John have been with SCH for 14 years each, and will be adapting their previous roles as the works manager and accountant to run and oversee the company. Andrew is sure they will continue his entrepreneurial spirit, as new and innovative products will be added to the SCH range in the coming years. They are fortunate enough to have an enthusiastic and dedicated team to support them, including Alan Lawrence, who has helped smooth the transition by taking over many responsibilities of the works manager.

SCH produce over 50,000 copies of their free 80 page brochure, which contains their most popular products. Many of these have been inspired by the unique and innovative requests by customers over the past 33 years. SCH Supplies’ New Apprentices

SCH Supplies’ New Apprentices: We at SCH Supplies have recently taken on three young apprentices. Our company, based in Holbrook in Suffolk, design and manufacture attachments for small tractors and ride on mowers.

It’s due to a very busy summer and increased orders that we have decided to take on more staff. We feel that it’s only fair to give younger people an opportunity to get their careers started in engineering. The apprentices were recommended to us by WS Training of Ipswich, and will be supervised and mentored by them during the duration of the course. They will receive training in various departments, and will gain skills across the entire manufacturing process, from processing raw materials to assembling the finished products.

SCH Supplies' New Apprentices

Our workshops manufacture a wide variety of machinery, from trailers, leaf suction units, flail mowers and much more.  The apprentices will have hands on experience with both petrol and electric engines, and will benefit from the variety of products that they will work on.

SCH have had huge success with apprentices in the past, with one of our first apprentices still with us over 20 years later. It’s due to this success that we’ve continued to employ local aspiring engineers.

We wish them all the best of luck in the future, and we’re proud that the experience and training gained at SCH will help them throughout their careers.

Rigby Taylor’s Amenity Supplies Deal

Rigby Taylor’s Amenity Supplies Deal: Clive Liddiard is a grounds professional who knows what he wants, when he wants it and what he wants it for! It’s a vision that has underpinned his illustrious career, first as a greenkeeper and, more recently, as a groundsman – which has included winning an IOG Industry Award.

And it is a strategy that he is now successfully applying at Framlingham College in Suffolk.

Rigby Taylor's Amenity Supplies Deal

His expert outlook explains why he has signed a three-year preferred supplier deal with Rigby Taylor for all the amenity supplies, including line-marking machines and paints and aerosols, that he and his team of eight groundsmen will need to improve and maintain the standards of the college’s rugby, football and cricket pitches, as well as tennis courts.

The agreement – which he affirms “will bring the sports fields and horticultural areas up to scratch and consistently playable and well-presented” at the college’s two sites (the main college campus and the nearby junior school) is, he says, a win-win situation.

Clive, who in January 2018 was appointed head of grounds at the independent school’s sprawling 108-acre Suffolk site which accommodates pupils aged three to eighteen, adds: “Rigby Taylor get a firm, long-term contract for a set of products and I get all the best products at the best possible price – along with superb and reliable back-up from Rigby Taylor’s technical sales representative, Mark Keysell!”

Clive’s shopping list includes the R9 and R5 seeds (100% ultra-fine rye and 100% fescue blend, respectively), Crossbar selective herbicide and Chikara contact/residual herbicide, as well as Gallup Biograde Amenity foliar-applied herbicide and the Qualgex surface biocide, plus two iGo Advance and an iGo Mini Exclusive line-markers and Impact line-marking paint along with a variety of loams and dressings.

Speaking at an ‘Innovation, Education and Demonstration’ event of Rigby Taylor’s line-marking products at the college – which included GPS line-marking and the award-winning Impact paint technology – Clive commented:

“I haven’t got an enormous budget, but I wanted the best array of products possible to create the ‘perfect picture’ for an outstanding college estate that was founded in 1864 in memory of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Consort.

“It embraces a Victorian school building and a lake, and it overlooks a 12th century castle. We also have a range of sports fields including 17 grass tennis courts and two astro turf pitches (both floodlit).

“The use of these products will not only improve the facilities but, in turn, will also enhance the work of the grounds team. They are a very experienced group and they know what to do and when to do it, but there’s no doubt that with Rigby Taylor’s help we will all see further improvements in the results of our efforts.”
