Toys bring festive cheer to communities

Toys bring festive cheer to communities: Generous JCB employees have delivered another record year for the company’s annual Christmas Toy Appeal – donating an amazing 1,787 gifts.

Donations poured into 15 different collection points across the company’s UK plants when the appeal was launched in November, beating last year’s total of 1,700 presents.  Now the bulk of the gifts have been handed over to Stoke-on-Trent charity the Hubb Foundation for distribution to families in the greatest need.

Hubb Foundation Operations Manager Tom Beecham said: “JCB’s Christmas Toy Appeal means so much to us as a charity and it means so much to the children and families we work with in Stoke-on-Trent. Christmas is a challenging time of year, so to bring some happiness and positivity to children at this time of year is wonderful. We can’t thank JCB and all the employees enough for their ongoing generosity.”

The first batch of gifts was delivered to thrilled pupils at the New Ford Academy in Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent by JCB-sponsored athlete and Olympic silver medallist Adam Burgess and JCB apprentices Kitty Hulme, Lewis Durham, and Lucy Pepper.

Deputy Head Tracy Moller said: “It was wonderful to see the excitement on the children’s faces as the gifts were distributed. We would like to thank all the fabulous employees at JCB for their generous donations.”

Since the appeal’s launch in 2022, employees have donated almost 6,000 gifts for distribution to children and young people. In Wrexham, gifts donated by JCB Transmissions’ employees are being given to the Salvation Army for local distribution. A number of gifts were also donated to Cheadle Primary School for distribution to families.

Helping to co-ordinate this year’s appeal were  JCB apprentices: Kitty Hulme, 20, of Newcastle under-Lyme, Lewis Durham, 20, of Derby, Lucy Pepper, 23, of Stoke-on-Trent, and Will Jenkins, 20, of Stone.

KAR UK and Hunter Bring Practical Solutions to BTME

KAR UK and Hunter Bring Practical Solutions to BTME: Visitors to Stand 550 at BTME 2026 will be welcomed by KAR UK, joined by the expert team from Hunter Irrigation, for a showcase built around innovation, efficiency, and practical support for today’s greenkeepers and course managers. With an abundance of turf irrigation expertise in one place, the stand will be a must-visit for anyone responsible for maintaining healthy, high-performing golf surfaces.

This year, the spotlight will fall on two major areas of Hunter’s golf portfolio: the Pilot® Network Control System and the TTS-800 Series of golf rotors – widely recognised within the industry as the GT range.

TTS-800 / GT Series Rotors: Water Efficiency Meets Performance

Alongside Pilot, KAR UK and Hunter will also highlight the TTS-800 Series, commonly known in golf as the GT rotors. Engineered specifically for golf course performance, these rotors combine exceptional durability with some of the most precise, water-efficient irrigation available.

The GT range is built around Hunter’s signature Total-Top-Service (TTS) design, enabling every internal component to be accessed from above ground. This dramatically reduces maintenance time, eliminates unnecessary digging, and keeps surfaces playable and presentable.

From an irrigation standpoint, the rotors deliver uniform water distribution, impressive throw performance, and highly efficient nozzle options that help clubs achieve the same turf quality with less water applied. For courses upgrading older or inconsistent irrigation heads, GT rotors offer a step change in both reliability and water savings.

Smarter Control with Hunter Pilot

Hunter’s Pilot Network Control System is built around the idea that the best irrigation technology should make life easier, not more complicated. From installation to day-to-day operation, the Pilot system is designed to provide maximum reliability with minimum fuss.

Courses can choose between conventional or integrated hub configurations, allowing the system to be built around existing infrastructure or deployed as a completely modern, centralised control network. Pilot hardware can work independently or be linked seamlessly into Pilot Central Control Software, giving clubs the flexibility to upgrade at their own pace.

The software itself has become one of the standout features of the system. Pilot Central Control balances irrigation run times with both water and electrical supply to ensure the most efficient cycles possible – an increasingly important capability as golf clubs look to reduce costs, conserve water, and remain environmentally responsible. For periods when precision takes priority over pump-station efficiency, such as grow-in or overseeding, Pilot’s controller-based programming provides simple, localised control.

The latest addition to the system, the Pilot Navigator mobile app, takes flexibility even further. Putting the full power of Pilot Command Centre Software directly into a smartphone, the app allows greenkeepers to make quick adjustments, trigger irrigation, and manage key settings remotely and intuitively. With customisable features and real-time visibility, it enables users to save time, conserve water, and stay fully in control of their course – whether they’re on-site, on the move, or responding to changing conditions across the site.

Whether you’re planning a system upgrade, replacing components, or simply looking for better ways to manage water, the combined expertise of KAR UK and Hunter Irrigation will ensure every visitor receives clear, practical advice tailored to their course.

For greenkeepers and course managers facing the growing pressure of water management and system efficiency, there’s no better place at BTME 2026 to explore smarter, more sustainable irrigation solutions. Visit Stand 550 to see the technology first-hand, meet the specialists, and discover how Hunter’s golf-specific innovations can support your plans for the season ahead.

Suståne 10-1-4 is a fine grade fertiliser for greens, tees and tight cut fairways, rich in quick release water soluble nitrogen (WSN) making it ideal for a quick green up when soil temperatures are below optimum. While the WSN offers immediate energy, the fertiliser’s natural organic base of humus-rich compost, beneficial microbiology and all 17 elements essential for plant photosynthesis builds a stable platform for good soil structure and consistent nutrient release as temperatures rise.

Stand 170 will also see the launch of Suståne’s new Zero-Phos range of natural base fertilisers – developed to allow turf grass managers to design nutrient plans for environments where phosphate application is restricted due to local or regional regulations, or agronomic situations where phosphate application is not required. Like all Suståne fertilisers, this range is built upon the finest base of composted ingredients co-granulated with mineral nutrient inputs. The final product offer a homogenous granular fertiliser, with each granule containing essential plant nutrients, stable organic matter, beneficial biology and humic substances. This new range is easy to apply, safe and agronomically effect, and the perfect input to promote healthy turf grass and healthy, biologically active soils.

Visitors can be among the first to learn about the two new Zero-Phos fine grade formulations – 4-0-6 and 8-0-6 100SGN – and one medium grade formulation, 14-0-6 200SGN, by speaking with Suståne’s technical team when BTME returns to the Harrogate Convention Centre on 20-22 January 2026.

Kubota to showcase high-cut capability at BTME

Kubota to showcase high-cut capability at BTME: Kubota is set to make a popular return to BTME, once again partnering with Baroness to showcase a reliable and powerful portfolio of Japanese turf maintenance solutions on stand 624. The focus for 2026 is innovation in their out-front mowing range, with the FC4-441 fitted with a deck offering an impressive height of cut up to 7” taking centre stage.

The FC4-441 is the latest addition to the FC mower range, designed to deliver versatile cutting performance on large areas such as parks and sports facilities. Equally at home on the golf course, the FC4-441 will be presented at BTME with a new out-front rotary cutting deck, capable of the higher heights of cut required for heather management, wildflower maintenance or the preservation of wildlife areas and longer roughs.

While the updated deck delivers improved performance in longer or more delicate vegetation, with a quick and simple adjustment the FC4-441 can cut other peripheral areas around the course – offering greenkeepers flexibility without compromise on cut quality or productivity – or even be used as a leaf collection unit thanks to its generous 1300L hopper.

No Kubota stand is ever complete without a compact tractor or two, with both the B2-261 and L2-452 making an appearance in Harrogate this January. Renowned for its power-to-size ratio, comfort and adaptability, the B2-261 is a popular choice with golf courses across the country. Meanwhile, the L2-452 combines robust, reliable technology with a high degree of operator comfort – providing 45hp of manoeuvrable performance for all mainstream maintenance tasks.

One of those tasks is aeration, with the L2-452 equipped with the Baroness TDA aerator showcasing the epitome of a productive partnership.

Visitors to stand 624 can also ask their questions to the Kubota technical team, who will be on hand across the three days to advise how these machines and others can support more efficient and sustainable golf course management.
