S&C Slatter Acquire White Horse Contractors

S&C Slatter Acquire White Horse Contractors: S&C Slatter is delighted to announce the acquisition of White Horse Contractors which becomes a member of The Slatter Group.

White Horse Contractors was established in 1957 by Arnold Binning. Since then it has grown into one of the leading providers of natural turf sports facilities, land drainage, water engineering, landscaping and civil engineering projects. It has gained a first-class reputation for quality and service in these sectors.

As a well-established family business, S&C Slatter are acknowledged as one of the Country’s foremost experts in the design and construction of sports facilities including artificial and natural pitches, multi-use games areas (MUGAs), hard and soft landscaping. The Surfacing & Civils division is also very successful in securing an increasing share in the infrastructure sector – car parks, roadways, hard standings.

White Horse Contractors will operate from the Group Head Office in Enborne, Newbury as an autonomous business under the guidance of newly appointed Managing Director David Smith and Technical Director James Welsh.

With this addition, The Slatter Group offers an unrivalled scope of services to a broad reach of clients within the sports grounds, amenity, leisure, agricultural and equestrian sectors. The knowledge base and resource that White Horse Contractors brings to the Group complements perfectly the skills, technology  and experience in artificial surfacing, civil engineering and project development accessible from the  existing specialist divisions of S&C Slatter.

David Slatter, who oversees the operations of all Group companies, comments ‘When I first took over the business from my Father, we provided sub-contract services for White Horse Contractors on their bigger projects. For me they were always the ‘Gold Standard’ which I was aiming to emulate and to this end I saw a perfect opportunity to approach the Directors of White Horse Contractors. To be able to bring their expertise and resource to our family business is a dream come true for me. The depths of services, skills and knowledge that we can now offer our clients in a one stop shop is industry leading.’

James Binning is the third generation of the Binning family to chair White Horse Contractors and says, ‘I am delighted that we have found another family business which can take White Horse Contractors to new heights and that shares our company ethos and family values. Many of our staff have worked with us for decades and it is important to us that the business continues to be run in the same style as it has for the last 60 years.’

However, the Binning family association with the industry will not cease as White Horse Contractors’ workshop and plant will continue to grow and thrive under a new name, Muddy Plat Hire Ltd, providing specialist plant hire services to The Slatter Group and the industry at large.

T H WHITE To Launch New Models

T H WHITE To Launch New Models: The brands Ferris, Wright, Spider and Jensen are synonymous in their sectors with high quality, innovation and problem solving. In 2018, the UK distributor T H WHITE Machinery Imports is delighted to be once again supporting the IOG and SALTEX, showcasing these four brands with an increased visibility at the event, with a huge stand size of 175m2 to give them the space and presence they deserve, including two new product launches from market leaders Ferris and Spider. The team were thrilled last year to be awarded the Best Stand award in the ‘Open Space 60m2 + category’ and are hoping to replicate this success at the 2018 event with an even larger open stand, 50m2 bigger than the 2017 space, located at stand number H190. This year models from all four brands will be displayed together, showcasing the variety of innovative equipment available through the Machinery Imports business, including a range of Ferris zero-turn mowers, Wright stander mowers, Spider slope mowers and Jensen woodchippers.

From Ferris, the stand will feature a range of machines from the smallest model – the 400S, launched in 2018, up to the bigger mowers for larger-scale commercial grass cutting, including the all new ISX®800Z, launching at Saltex this year and available from 2019. Brand new from Ferris, the zero-turn, ride-on ISX®800Z features the latest technology to provide a commercial mower with superior performance, quality and comfort. The 132cm rear discharge deck features a factory-fitted mulching insert as well as Ferris iCD™ technology, with the user also benefitting from mowing speeds up to 16km/h. All new to the industry is the addition of a double wishbone suspension system, providing increased contact with the turf for more uniform, high quality mowing, as well as ensuring a more comfortable ride over bumps and dips in the ground with improved steering and handling.

T H WHITE To Launch New Models

The all new 400S, which was launched this year, features the patented Ferris all-round suspension as well as an innovative ‘Triple Deck’ with easy-to-change deck options including side and rear discharge, mulch and 50/50 rear and mulch discharge options. Not only that, all 400S models bought this year come with a free Service Jack for easy and quick maintenance and deck changes.

In addition, visitors will be able to see a selection of Wright zero-turn stander mowers and remote-controlled robotic slope mowers from industry leading Spider, with the ability to mow uneven, dangerous and sloping terrain up to 55° – all with zero-turn, four-wheel drive (called the ‘Dancing Step’ by its designers in Czech Republic) and ability to cut up to 7000m2/h. Launching from the Spider team this year is the all-new Spider X Line, their smallest commercial machine to date offering a compact profile but a huge performance. With an integrated winch capable of supporting the machine in mowing up to 55°, 6 km/h mowing speed, 65cm deck width and zero-turn drive, this 1m2 robotic mower has the cutting capacity of 3 operatives with brush cutters.

As well as pioneering groundcare machinery, Machinery Imports are pleased to display examples from the wide range of Jensen woodchippers available in the UK, the largest of any chipper manufacturer in the industry.

In support of the IOG and in attendance at SALTEX again this year, Jensen has models ranging from 6” to 12” in capacity, including trailed, tracked, PTO and custom options, as well as a turntable option on all 8” and above chippers. Jensen really does offer a chipper for all customers and situations and we’d be delighted to talk to visitors about the solutions on offer at our SALTEX stand.

Whilst horticulture and arboriculture can be very distinct sectors, we meet customers regularly that require machinery for both grass and tree care. This overlap affords us the opportunity to present all four of our brands together to provide a varied choice of machinery for those users who require a combination of horticulture and arboriculture equipment within their business, as well as knowledge and insight on both sectors to provide customers with the most accurate and useful information possible to make an informed buying decision.

The team are looking forward to meeting new and existing customers and dealers on the stand, H190, showing the vast selection of machinery on offer and discussing opportunities for free demonstrations and site visits throughout the coming months.

What’s White, Green And Read?

What’s White, Green And Read?: Noisy. Dirty. Uncomfortable. Polluting. Not words usually associated with gardening, but terms regularly connected with petrol. A new whitepaper from EGO looks at the benefits of lithium-ion battery versus petrol powered outdoor equipment.

Steve Roskell, marketing director (EMEA) of EGO comments: “In the world of professional landscaping and grounds maintenance, petrol has been the fuel of choice for over 100 years – mainly because there has been no viable challenger. Recently however, battery powered cordless equipment has begun to gain worldwide popularity and increased market share, signalling the most significant shift in the sector for decades.”

What's White, Green And Read?

There are four key factors driving this trend: health & safety, user comfort, the environment and economics, all outlined in a dedicated whitepaper commissioned by EGO, which looks at how to increase safety, productivity, sustainability and cost-effectiveness in commercial gardening.

The whitepaper provides extensive evidence of the potential risks posed by petrol to user health and the environment and the benefits of battery powered tools to company cashflow.

Steve continues: “In each of these areas, the benefits of lithium-ion batteries over petrol are overwhelming. Moreover, the emergence of new generation batteries and equipment by global manufacturers such as EGO means that lithium-ion batteries can now match or even surpass the performance of petrol, without any of the drawbacks.”

These were all considerations the brand had when designing its latest range of professional equipment, a range of tools that perform beyond the expectations of even the most challenging user. The new range consists of a hedge trimmer, blower, and grass strimmer – all using the unique EGO Power Plus Arc Lithium 56v battery or the new BAX1500 battery backpack.

Displaying the key attributes of battery powered tools, the new EGO professional range is simpler, cleaner, quieter and with less vibration than most of its petrol counterparts making it more comfortable to use. With lower running and maintenance costs, switching to EGO will lead to long term savings, without any down time or reduced productivity, making them ideal for facilities teams, and ground care professionals alike.

EGO has created a White Paper outlining the benefits of switching from petrol to battery garden tools. This is available to download via the EGO Power Plus website: egopowerplus.co.uk/whitepaper
