“Partnering with Carr Golf represents a major step forward for BGL as we continue to raise the standard of our golf courses and invest in our people,” said Guy Riggott, Chief Operating Officer of BGL’s Golf Division. “As environmental, technological, and financial pressures grow, we believe that working collaboratively with experts who share our values will help us meet these challenges head on and deliver an even better experience for our growing number of members and guests.”

Carr Golf will work closely with BGL’s course managers and greenkeeping teams to provide technical guidance, mechanical support, and detailed agronomic planning. The consultancy will also help BGL enhance sustainability reporting, leveraging data to track resource efficiency, support GEO recertifications, and inform long-term investment decisions.

“This partnership is not about wholesale change,” added Riggott. “It’s about applying best practice, mentoring and developing our talented teams, and embracing new ways of working that will ensure our venues continue to lead in course presentation and conditioning.”

Ed Pettit, Managing Director of Carr Golf’s Maintenance Division, said: “We’re delighted to partner with BGL and bring our agronomic expertise, technical support, and data-driven approach to their outstanding portfolio of venues. Our focus is on working hand-in-hand with course managers and greenkeeping teams. Supporting them with the tools, insight, and training they need to help raise standards, improve sustainability, and deliver an even better experience for golfers. This collaboration is built on shared values and a passion for continuous improvement, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together.”

Carr Golf has already begun integrating with clubs across the BGL portfolio, working closely with maintenance teams to implement best practices and develop new agronomic programmes. This process will continue throughout the remainder of the year and beyond, ensuring every venue is equipped to meet future challenges while consistently progressing in course quality and playing conditions.

Landscape Services productivity soars with Kubota zero-turns

Landscape Services productivity soars with Kubota zero-turns: Over the last 18 months, much of the green grass across Kent has seen an influx of orange cutting equipment in a transition to Kubota for Landscape Services, part of the Commercial Services Group.

Landscape Services has enhanced efficiency with the addition of 15 ZD1211 zero-turn mowers, alongside other Kubota equipment including an F391 and G231HD mower and an LX-401 compact tractor.

For over 80 years, Landscape Services has specialised in planning, developing and implementing grounds, landscaping, arb and pest control projects across the South East. Today, more than 80 operatives are responsible for the maintenance of over 1000 sites including schools, sports clubs, housing associations, national parks and private land owners to name but a few. Helping them service the vast and varied requirements is a significant fleet of equipment from Kubota.

As part of a strategic move from cylinder to rotary mowers, Landscape Services have taken delivery of 15 ZD1211 zero-turn mowers via local dealer Lister Wilder in the last 18 months. Managing Director Phil Morgan takes up the story, “The switch to Kubota and the zero-turn mowers in particular has enhanced the way we operate. Their manoeuvrability allows our team to work efficiently on sites of all shapes and sizes, with their ease of use and low maintenance resulting in significant productivity improvements.”

Kubota’s ZD1211 zero-turn mower has been engineered from the ground up to deliver quality, performance, comfort and durability. The 3-blade, 140mm deep deck features a flat design and unique baffling system to lift and cut grass with accuracy and ensure clippings are evenly discharged. Phil concurs, “The quality of the end result is outstanding and, most of all, the team enjoy using them!”

Working alongside the zero-turns are other ride-on machines from the Kubota portfolio including an F391 and G231HD cut and collect machine which, again, has improved both the productivity and safety of the grass cutting operation. “We also have a compact LX401 tractor which has proven to be a capable all-rounder. We use the LX401 on contracts where its narrow frame allows us to reach places a larger tractor can’t access, most often when cutting hedgerows.”

Running close to 20 Kubota machines, dealer support for Landscape Services is critical. “We are pleased with the service we’ve had from Lister Wilder, so much so that we even awarded them ‘Supplier of the Year’ for 2025.” Phil adds, “We were hesitant in making such a substantial change to our equipment fleet but the results we’ve seen have been staggering and with the service agreement we have in place, we know we can expect reliable service from our Kubota equipment.”

Transforming Turf with Origin Amenity Solutions

Transforming Turf with Origin Amenity Solutions: When Stuart Donald took on the role of Head Greenkeeper at Inverurie Golf Club in April 2024, he faced immediate challenges. “The greens were full of thatch with a shallow black layer,” he recalls. “The course needed remedial work and a clear long-term strategy to improve turf health and playability.”

Stuart was able to draw on a programme he had used successfully at his previous club in Knebworth, Hertfordshire, which relied on advice and products from Headland Amenity. Since Headland’s integration into Origin Amenity Solutions, he has continued that approach, benefiting from the same trusted technical advice and a broader range of science-led products. “The continuity of support and products has made a real difference here too,” he says.

Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of products and expertise for professional turf management. OAS combines decades of experience with innovative research to deliver healthier, more resilient and sustainable surfaces, providing the technical support and product range that enabled Stuart to implement his programme with confidence.

A Science-Led Approach

Within just a year, progress at Inverurie Golf Club has been remarkable. Stuart has overseen a reduction of around 30mm of thatch, which has reduced the black layer to encourage better rooting. He has successfully implemented a tree management plan that includes gorse reduction to aid better airflow and increase sunlight for the turf, alongside the construction of new ditches to dry out the course more quickly in the winter months.

Stuart’s course maintenance regime relies on a suite of proven OAS products. “We use ProTec Plus and Seamac which really helps the turf recover and stay healthy,” he explains. “Seamac Proturf Fe, Liquid Turf Hardener and Turfite Elite form part of our 20-20-30 tank mix, which we use in conjunction with Mantle and PPT114 to reduce the reliance on fungicides. I am planning for future years when we might not have the option of using fungicides due to ongoing restrictions. Tri-Cure and TeraFirm complete our programme by improving air-to-water ratios in the soil, to improve soil and root health.”

“The results have been very encouraging,” he adds. “Better greens, improved grass coverage and more effective tree management. It’s all starting to show, members have noticed it too, with feedback on truer, smoother putting surfaces.”

Trusted Support

For Stuart, the ongoing support from OAS has been just as important as the products themselves. “The advice and guidance from the advisors have been invaluable. Having worked with Headland Amenity for years, I was happy to continue when they became part of OAS as I could continue the programme, I know works, with the added benefit of a wider range of resources and expertise.”

A Course Transformed

Over the past eighteen months, Inverurie Golf Club has undergone a tangible transformation. Through careful planning, practical interventions and the use of science-led products, Stuart and his team have turned challenging conditions into healthier, more resilient turf. The improvements reflect both the dedication of the greenkeeping team and the trusted partnership with Origin Amenity Solutions.

Norfolk Arborist thrives with reliable stump grinding solutions

Norfolk Arborist thrives with reliable stump grinding solutions: The Norfolk Arborist has gone from strength to strength since its formation in 2017, providing expert residential and commercial tree maintenance services throughout East Anglia. On the journey alongside owner Michael Lomax since day one is an FSI B22, which continues to handle every stump removal job with effective, reliable results week in, week out.

With a large portfolio of domestic clients and commercial contracts including the Ministry of Defence and several large landowners throughout Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Northamptonshire, no two weeks are ever the same for Michael and his team. One thing the team can always rely on is the performance of their FSI B22, which has been their go-to solution for stump removal in restricted-access, residential settings for the last eight years.

“It’s incredibly versatile and easy to use, making it a popular choice with the team” Michael explains. “Being self-propelled means we can send one van, equipped with a chipper and the FSI B22 stump grinder, and the team will have everything they need to get the job done. We must have clocked up close to 1000 hours with this machine and, with the exception of the regular wear and tear replacements, we’ve had next to no issues.”

He emphasises, “The reliability of this machine has been extraordinary. We must have made our money back on it ten-fold over the years!”

The robust performance of FSI is not limited to the smaller jobs however. For larger domestic and commercial projects Michael turns to his local FSI Partner Stag Machinery, where he readily hires the powerful yet highly manoeuvrable FSI D30. “There’s not a lot the FSI D30 can’t do! We can tackle up to 120 two-foot stumps in a day, making it very productive and highly efficient. Not only that but the lighter footprint of this machine compared to others in this category means we can still transport the unit over residential lawns, patios and other sensitive areas if needed without risk of causing damage.”

Like many, Michael not only values the reliable performance of his equipment, but the back-up support and service received from their local FSI dealer. “Will at Stag has been brilliant, delivering a personal service and a quick response if we need anything. We like the fact the depot is local, and the ability to hire the FSI D30 as and when we need it means we can run our business and service the various needs of our clients, without the headache of managing and maintaining a really large fleet of our own.”
