Job Purpose

We are looking for a skilled (or working towards) Grounds Person on a permanent full-time basis to join the grounds team, to assist in the maintenance of the club’s grounds at Vitality Stadium, the training ground and academy sites.

Reporting to the Head of Grounds, the successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for the industry, ambition to improve themselves, and thrive to present the clubs playing surfaces to the highest standards.

Main Duties

  • Undertake routine maintenance work of playing surfaces and landscape as detailed on work schedules or as directed by supervisor.
  • The safe use and operation of equipment and machinery used in surface maintenance.
  • Inform supervisor, where appropriate, take corrective action on mechanical defects or breakdown of equipment.
  • Work at the either of 2 sites Stadium/Training Ground and/or Academy.
  • Carry out grass cutting, line marking, aeration, scarification, divoting, brushing, weeding, debris clearance, litter picking, pressure washing, pitch set up, hedge cutting, spraying.
  • Assist in the specialist maintenance of the clubs’ grounds.
  • Keep and maintain in good and clean condition all plant, tools and equipment belonging to the club.
  • To be trained on machinery used on the grounds.
  • Keep and maintain in good condition all plant tools and equipment used by the team.
  • Assisting with the teams/players and/or public who may have questions or need assistance.

The Club is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Greenkeeper to join the existing team. The FIRST ASSISTANT position will be supporting the Deputy Course Manager and Course Manager, to lead a team and carry out tasks for the day. The successful candidate will be expected to help ensure our course is maintained to the standards expected of a Top 100 venue. They must have highly proficient greenkeeping skills and agronomic knowledge and a reasonable understanding of Health & Safety, COSHH, and other legislative matters is deemed to be of the highest importance.

General Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a greenkeeping position.
  • Must be qualified up to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf Management or similar qualification.
  • Spraying Certificates PA1, PA2 and PA6
  • Full driving License is required

The following qualifications would be an advantage, but are not essential:

  • Chainsaw certificates in felling and cross-cutting
  • Construction experience
  • Irrigation maintenance, repair and use
  • First Aid

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional and welcoming approach at all times when dealing with members, guests and visitors.
  • Work effectively with all members of the Greenkeeping Team and were required direct and assist the team to carry out routine golf course maintenance tasks as directed by the Course Manager. For example – the maintenance of bunkers, course furniture, drainage and general presentation
  • To assist in turf maintenance including mowing, irrigation, and control of pests and diseases on the greens and other playing surfaces.
  • To assist in setting up the course, including changing holes, moving tee markers, as directed by the Course Manager.
  • In conjunction with the Course Manager, gain knowledge of the plant machinery used for specific tasks, ensuring you are only using the machinery you have been properly trained on. Use it in the correct manner and comply with Health and Safety regulations whilst in operation.
  • Prepare machinery ready for use and clean machinery after use. Carry out any maintenance required to the machinery as requested by the Course Manager
  • Remain conversant with modern greenkeeping practices and to attend training courses which are identified by the club as being necessary for the performance of the position.
  • Take all responsible steps and be proactive to protect the health, safety, welfare of yourself, all employees, members and visitors by following all legislative rules & guidance.
  • Ensure all faults and defects relating to the condition of the course, equipment, tools, buildings etc. are reported to the Course Manager.

We require a full-time lawn operative to work in South Oxfordshire, Aylesbury, High Wycombe and surrounding areas, with an immediate start available.

You’ll attend domestic properties to carry out lawn treatments such as fertilising, scarification, aeration, overseeding, weed treatment, disease control, and providing customers with quotations for our services. There is no garden maintenance or grass cutting involved.

Knowledge of the local area is essential, and you’ll need to be able to load and drive a company vehicle. As a company we pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our customers, so good communication and customer service skills are essential.

Applicants must:

  • have an interest in lawns and some previous experience in the golf, sports turf or horticultural sectors
  • be prepared to develop their turf maintenance skills in order to work to a consistently high standard, taking pride in your work

Job Purpose

The Grounds Team is a close-knit unit with responsibility for maintaining the school grounds to a high standard of appearance. The role of Head Groundskeeper is responsible for supervising the day to day running of the team, maintenance and land management of 3 sports fields, two all-weather pitches, woodlands, gardens, walkways and parking areas to the highest possible standard.

Accountable to: Estates Manager

Key responsibilities

Grounds

  • Provide and maintain first-class playing surfaces and sports pitches, including cricket wickets and to ensure the garden and grounds are maintained to an exceptional standard.
  • Work closely with our busy and thriving Games Department to ensure you fully understand the Games programme, have a good understanding of Games’ requirements and embrace the need to ensure the School’s comprehensive sports fixtures list runs smoothly.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, tidiness and general appearance of all external areas of the School including gardens and hard surfaces.
  • Work with Estates Manager to plan, budget, implement, monitor and evaluate all grounds-related projects (e.g. playing fields, landscaping and grounds development) and works carried out by contractors monitoring quality, cost and performance.
  • Ensure the efficient maintenance and availability of playing surfaces, sports equipment such as football/ hockey goals, rugby posts, cricket equipment, play equipment or outdoor structures across the site and grounds-related machinery, equipment and materials.
  • Provide support in adverse weather conditions, including snow/ice clearance from pathways around the site.
  • Preserve the security of all playing areas and the maintenance of the hedges, fences and gateways surrounding them.
  • Maintain appropriate awareness of grounds industry and health & safety developments and inform the Grounds Team and others how these may impact the school.

Team Management

  • Co-ordinate the Grounds Team to achieve their tasks, work schedules and objectives, and always encourage maximum commitment and efficient service.
  • Hold regular team meetings and ensure that members of the team are up to date with developments in the Estates Team, and the school as a whole.
  • Conduct staff probationary reviews (where applicable) and annual staff appraisals in line with the School’s Professional Development Policy.

  • Hold relevant pesticides training (PA1 & PA6 Certificate)
