David Cole, our Director of Agronomy, is currently recruiting a new agronomy team to collaborate closely with the golf course contractors throughout the construction, grow-in, and long-term maintenance phases of the golf courses and grounds.

Senior Greenkeepers

Reporting to the A&M Senior Agronomy Team, the senior greenkeepers will directly participate in all aspects of the key phases of the construction and grow-in and long-term maintenance for A&M Fife’s golf courses and grounds.

This will include the following,

  • The construction of USGA greens
  • Extensive drainage and irrigation installation
  • The construction of bunkers
  • Sand capping to tees, fairways and primary rough
  • Playing surface finishing and pre-plant application
  • Seeding, turfing and grow-in establishment
  • Ongoing assistance with drainage and course improvement projects
  • Assist with annual seed and turf establishment programmes
  • Assist with cultural practices applied to all the playing surfaces on the golf courses
  • Apply pesticide and fertilisers applications by the interpretation of data collation and following an Integrated Pest Management programme
  • Assist with record keeping and agronomy data collation and ensure they are kept up to date
  • Apply training for staff on the safe use of operational equipment and care of mowers and other equipment
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the irrigation and pumping systems

Under direction from the A&M senior agronomy team and the team of consultants and contractors, the senior greenkeeper positions will play a crucial role observing and assisting with the construction and seamless grow-in of the golf courses, and long term will ensure that the golf course maintains optimal playing conditions.

The Senior Greenkeepers will be responsible for: –

  • Following guidance from the A&M senior agronomy team, the golf course contractors, the project management team and various consultants assisting and monitoring all aspects of the construction phases for the golf courses and grounds.
  • Assisting with the maintenance and improvements of the putting greens, tees, fairways, practice facilities, roughs, bunkers and associated facilities
  • Identifying potential problems and providing corrective solutions and recommendations to the Director of Agronomy
  • Assisting with drainage and course improvement projects
  • Assisting with annual seed and turf establishment programmes
  • Assisting with cultural practices to all the playing surfaces on the golf course
  • Ensuring proper use of pesticide and fertilisers applications and equipment by following an Integrated Pest Management programme
  • Assist with training programmes for the safe use of operational equipment and care of mowers and other equipment
  • Ensuring all record keeping and date is accurate and kept up to date and all golf course related tasks are recorded
  • Assist with any relevant administration such as H&S, Training Manuals, Record Keeping, Purchasing, and data collation are maintained within correct legislation
  • Ensure the Golf course conditions are in line with A&M expectations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Agronomy/General Manager/Director of Golf/Company Directors
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs, and communicate with the senior agronomy team and staff with all golf course operations
  • Assist with monitoring water requirements with the use of ET and moisture devices and apply irrigation based on weather conditions and turfgrass requirements.
  • Maintaining good communications with all the senior agronomy team and staff and offer assistance and advice when required

Applicants should have: –

  • A consistent history of employment at a good Greenkeeping level
  • A professional track record in the areas of:
    • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Greenkeeping and Sports Turf Management
    • PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates but not mandatory
    • The game of golf
    • Turf-grass management
    • Good working knowledge of golf course operations
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Be an individual with presence and possess the skill and ability to influence others
  • Experience of working within a similar quality-orientated organisation
  • Confidence, and a passion for what you do and not be afraid to talk out

About the Course

Claremont Park Golf Course has been established for over 60 years. Nestling near the centre of Esher is one of golf’s best kept secrets.  As part of the private Claremont Park Estate, the golf course has much to offer that a traditional 18-hole course doesn’t.  A haven of tranquillity that offers a different golfing experience.

Role Overview

This is a standalone role with significant autonomy, perfect for an experienced greenkeeper who thrives on independence and enjoys a wide variety of responsibilities. Working largely unsupervised, the Greenkeeper will ensure the course is maintained to a high standard and provides optimal playing conditions year-round.
The role offers the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of course maintenance, management, and development, with support provided for the successful candidate to develop their skills further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the golf course to provide excellent playing conditions and surfaces through effective agronomic management
  • Manage irrigation and drainage systems to ensure consistent course quality.
  • Undertake routine tasks including leaf clearance, rubbish and debris removal, and pest control (with third-party support where necessary).
  • Maintain bunkers, manage weeds, pests, disorders and diseases using appropriate pesticides (training can be provided if necessary).
  • Carry out basic machinery maintenance and ensure all machinery is used safely and effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety legislation and golf course regulations.
  • Monitor course expenditure and assist with budgeting in collaboration with course administrator and directors.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, including residents, golf members, the golf committee, and the estate committee.
  • Contribute to the development of the course, including input on improvement projects and tree management.
  • Support the implementation of golf course local rules and ensure they are followed by players

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of greenkeeping experience.
  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in Golf Greenkeeping (or equivalent).
  • Good understanding of modern greenkeeping practices.
  • Industrially competent in the use of turf care machinery, with the ability to perform basic maintenance.
  • Highly motivated, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and golf course regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • PA1, PA2, and PA6 pesticide application certificates (or willingness to train).
  • Chainsaw operation certification.
  • Digger operator certification.

The successful candidate will support Origin’s linemarking business in Northern UK and will be responsible for conducting demonstrations, installations and providing training and support to customers.

Reporting to the Product Manager {Line Marking}, you will beexpected to:

  • Conduct demonstrations and installations, providing comprehensive training and ongoing product support to customers.
  • Actively support sales efforts within the linemarking sector, including paints, pedestrian machines, and robotic line
  • Independently identify and pursue opportunities to grow sales in new customer segments and market sectors.
  • Attend regular sales meetings and training sessions, both domestically and internationally.
  • Represent the company at trade shows by engaging with customers, showcasing products, and promoting the brand.
  • Travel frequently across the UK, with occasional overnight stays as required.

Skills required:

  • Strong technical aptitude, with the ability to perform onsite repairs and servicing of linemarking equipment {full training provided).
  • Interest in RTK technology, robotics, and a good understanding of computer systems and Android-based platforms is

A great opportunity has arisen to join the Greenkeeping team at Romiley Golf Club Stockport, Cheshire.

Romiley is one of the finest golf courses in the Greater Manchester area. This par 70 parkland course measures 6412 yards and is situated on the edge of the Derbyshire hills. Designed in the traditional two loops of nine holes finishing at the Clubhouse the course provides a good test of golf with a number of outstanding holes.

We are currently looking to recruit a keen and highly motivated full time Greenkeeper to join our existing team.

The applicant will be required to:
  • Display a high standard of greenkeeping skills
  • Have a varied and extensive knowledge in all aspects of course maintenance
  • Have an ability to work unsupervised and within a team environment
  • Be self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Show a strong work ethic, and desire to develop their knowledge and skills
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, members, guests and visitors
  • Have knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety theory and compliance
  • Be punctual and have a flexible approach to working hours including bank holidays and weekends on a rota basis
Ideal applicant will possess:
