What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Conduct hands-on demos with and light servicing of line marking machines
  • Work with a high-energy team to create and manage commercial opportunities
  • Deliver expert training sessions to encourage best practice in line marking
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and industry partners
  • Promote Turfix through active social media engagement and customer interactions
  • Operate our cutting-edge Turf Tank robots to mark sports pitches (seasonally)
  • Represent Turfix at trade shows, industry events and seminars
  • Enjoy the option of occasional overseas travel supporting global customers at some of the world’s best venues

What You Bring to the Pitch:

Your Experience Should Include:

  • 3+ years in sales within the sports turf, amenity, or groundcare industry (essential)
  • Customer account management and field-based visits (essential)
  • Proven success in hitting or exceeding sales targets (essential)
  • Hands-on experience with sports turf machinery or line marking equipment (desirable)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and CRM systems (essential)
  • A full (preferably clean) UK driving licence (essential)

The Role 

The Head Groundsperson will support the Grounds & Gardens Manager in the maintenance and upkeep of The Lensbury sports turf and ornamental surfaces, and in particular the rugby pitches and football pitches regularly used by elite sports teams from around the world, as well as high quality grass and artificial tennis courts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch Maintenance – Procedures including but not limiting, divoting, mowing, marking, aeration, application of fertilisers, insecticides and fungicides, scarifying, top dressing, seeding, disease recognition, pitch light manoeuvring/maintenance and levelling work where necessary.
  • Equipment Maintenance – football goal and rugby post disassembly and erection.
  • Machinery – Greasing, cleaning, setting up, oil checks and visual checks before and after use.
  • Liaising with the Grounds & Gardens Manager and other members of the team and others in their absence.
  • Liaising with staff, coaches and managers of visiting elite sports teams.
  • Ensuring the safety of all playing surfaces.
  • Adhering to the Club’s Health and Safety procedures.
  • Making all necessary preparations for all visiting elite sports teams and ensure specific requirements are covered.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of all other sports and recreation facilities to help ensure required standards are met.
  • Assisting with calculation of the budget requirements with respect to machinery repairs and supplies and materials, as directed by the Grounds & Gardens Manager.
  • Assisting in promoting the safe and correct storage of all machinery and equipment, and with relevant training and enforcing of correct procedures for their use.
  • Ensuring the safe keeping of all fertilisers, seed, sand, dressing, top soil insecticides and all regulations as to their application and usage.
  • Supporting the Head Gardener with all general duties to ensure all garden and grass surfaces, trees etc. are correctly maintained, and all Lensbury’s external areas are kept clean, tidy and well presented at all times.

What we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications, attitude, behaviours, skills, and values:

  • Passionate about sports turf management
  • Minimum of 3 year’s relevant experience working on rugby and football surfaces (essential) and ideally fine turf surfaces in particular grass tennis courts (or with the desire to progress in that area)
  • PA1, 2  and 6 qualifications preferred
  • Good team worker, with ability to work unsupervised
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Ideally Level 3 Sports turf management certificate

  • Salary of £32,500
  • In addition to the above, we pay an enhanced overtime rate, generally working one 4-hour Saturday morning shift and one 4-hour Sunday morning per month. These are paid at time and a half and double time respectively, taking the expected annual earnings to circa £35,000
