Nigel Lovatt Retires From Reesink

Nigel Lovatt Retires From Reesink: Reesink Turfcare announces the retirement of Nigel Lovatt with great sadness and genuine gratitude for the role he has played in shaping the company over the 17 years he was with the business.

And what a 17 years it’s been! Astonishing, says the man himself who never anticipated the trajectory of his career as he “left school at 16 with a box full of spanners bought in the school holidays” to start his career as an apprentice agricultural engineer.

Nigel Lovatt Retires From Reesink

Nigel joined the company when it was Lely UK and had already built himself a reputation in the industry, in particular, in the region of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire working for a competitor manufacturer. Taking responsibility for the area as retail sales manager, Nigel grew the golf business from almost nothing to £1million in his first couple of years. A promotion to regional manager followed suit.

With that came new responsibilities, and he started working with the Reesink dealer network and retail partners from the north east to the north west. His role expanded to take in sports venues as well as golf, and when Reesink introduced the grounds range to the UK, that too.

Jeff Anguige, national sales manager at Reesink Turfcare, says: “Nigel has been instrumental in not only bringing in substantial business, but retaining it. He has a natural ability for sales and a natural aptitude with people. That is a winning combination, demonstrated by the fact that he grew the business exponentially in his time here, along with the fact that he was there at the beginning of our relationship with some of our biggest customers.”

Of course, anyone who knows Nigel will know Jeff is referring to England Golf Union, Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Manchester City Football Club, Manchester United Football Club,

Liverpool Football Club and more councils than you can shake a stick at. And this veritable roll call of high profile, prestigious venues using Toro is, says Nigel, one of his biggest achievements.

“I have enjoyed every minute working with my dealers and customers and helping in their quest for the best quality grounds and courses. I have always considered it to be an absolute privilege to work with Toro, too. My engineering background means I’ve been able to work closely with my customers to understand their needs and what will suit them best, providing advice and backing it up with a solution from one of the best manufacturers there is.”

Fresh from his recent success in Australia winning a Team Silver medal in the clay pigeon shooting World Championships, Nigel’s retirement will heavily involve clay pigeon shooting and his role representing England Veterans. But, his presence will remain in the turfcare industry for some time yet.

With his apprenticeship in agricultural engineering Nigel has contributed to the components and mechanics of many of the Toro machines on the market today. He helped secure a third partnership with the England Golf Union and Woodhall Spa before he left and he leaves with many memories too, in particular, his role helping Royal Liverpool Golf Club in its preparation for The Open.

Jeff concludes by saying: “It’s always sad when someone leaves who has been a part of the company for as long as Nigel has, but when the person is as good at his job as Nigel has been, and as universally well-liked as he is, it’s safe to say he’ll be much missed.”

To offer its customers maximum options suited for all requirements, Cobra has a full range of power sources with its products being available as electric, lithium-ion battery for cordless options, and traditional petrol power. To further fulfil every need of every gardener Cobra has launched a new range of petrol engines for its machines.

Low-Emission Power From Cobra

Previously Cobra petrol products have been available with Cobra domestic engines, or alternatives from Briggs & Stratton or Honda, but now the company has launched the S-Series to offer exceptional, next-level petrol power with an affordable price tag. Cobra S-Series engines are environmentally friendly, with low emissions that meet the latest EU directive EU-V for emissions. They have a high power to weight ratio that makes the toughest gardening tasks easy and less tiring.

The first products to be available with the brand-new S-Series range of engines are the brushcutters and multitools. There are two new brushcutters available, the BCX230C and the BCX370CU. The robust BCX230C, with a D-Loop handle, has a 23cc S-Series engine that delivers up to 0.77kw of power. The premium BCX370CU provides relentless power of up to 1.2kw courtesy of its 37cc engine. With a bike handle and double shoulder harness it offers extended user comfort. Both models have a nylon head and metal blade.

Cobra has extended its multitool range to offer a new S-Series option too. The MTX230C has a 23cc displacement and is a 4-in-1 system that is equipped for any garden task. It has four attachments that include a grass trimmer, brushcutter, pole pruner and articulating long reach hedgetimmer that reaches up to 72cm. The tool also has an optional extension shaft. It retails at £389.99.

Managing director of Cobra, Peter Chaloner, commented: “We are constantly developing the Cobra range so are really excited to unveil the S-Series. These products deliver low emissions, without compromising on power or value so deliver everything that gardeners need.”

Combined with power assisted steering, the Twin Touch pedals are intuitive and easy to use and enable the operator to maximise productivity. The tractor’s independent pto can be engaged on the go, eliminating the need to stop and use the clutch. The 3038E also features an easy-lift bonnet that provides wide-open access to the engine bay for maintenance.

A new 300E front loader has been designed to complement the 3038E and features a curved boom and durable components. Together with the tractor’s tight turning circle, this offers a highly manoeuvrable combination for materials handling, whether working indoors or outdoors. Four-wheel drive is available as standard for more demanding applications and difficult ground conditions.

The 3038E compact tractor also offers telescoping draft links as a factory or field installed option. This makes attaching and removing rear implements very easy and increases overall performance in the field. This option is compatible with a wide range of implements, including mowers, rear blades and posthole diggers.

“This new tractor is easy to operate, easy to maintain, easy to own and easy to buy,” says Carlos Aragones, John Deere’s European turf segment manager. “No matter what the task, the 3038E compact tractor delivers John Deere quality and reliability at a budget-friendly price.”

Game-Changer From Barenbrug

Game-Changer From Barenbrug: Grass expert, Barenbrug UK, has launched a grass seed that manages its own moisture content, which will increase germination and establishment rates – particularly in tough, dry conditions.

The patented technology in Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager, is the result of research between Barenbrug and Aquatrols and has been independently tested by the STRI.

Game-Changer From Barenbrug

It works like this:

  1. When the seed is exposed to water, the Water Manager technology spreads into the soil creating a plant survival zone.
  2. This zone ensures that each seed has enough water to germinate, then manages the moisture content around the seeding during its establishment.
  3. As a result seedlings are less affected by abiotic stress and more plants survive.

Open Championship venue calls it “something out of sci-fi”

Craig Boath from Carnoustie Championship course, home to the Open Championship in 2018, says, “Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager has taken the sting out of overwatering landing areas on the fairways and par 3 tees.  It is clear it does not require as much water for germination due to the coating, which seems to hold on to moisture and trigger a quicker germination”.

Dr David Greenshields, Research and Development Manager at Barenbrug says:

“Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager delivers improved germination and seedling survival in the toughest environments. STRI trials also show that half the number of seeds have delivered twice the establishment. Overall, this product offers a significant development in turf science and a potential game-changer for turf managers in tricky environments, or for those looking to reduce water costs.”
