GroundWOW® gearing up for success

GroundWOW® gearing up for success: North-West autonomous technology innovators, GroundWOW, have been gearing up for success aided by the gradual opening-up of sport around the globe.

“There has definitely been a discernible change over the past three or four months. We developed so much through the pandemic itself and since then, it feels like target clients have really switched on to getting back to their business. For us, that has meant being busier than ever with product demonstrations at our HQ near Manchester or at client sites” commented Chief Commercial Officer, David Pritchard.

“The willing embrace of the likes of Zoom and MS Teams through the pandemic allowed us to remote in contacts from all over the world who have been clambering to see what we are up to. Truth is, we can entertain anybody either virtually or in person, and the real magic moment is when a target customer is able to view their logo being printed live from the viewing platform directly above our indoor test track. For lots of customers, that is when the penny really drops” continued Pritchard.

Outside of events and demonstrations, the team behind the world’s first autonomous full colour ground printer has been eyeing up new premises as the expansion of their enterprise continues.

“We knew when we moved to our current address that we would outgrow it quite quickly and that is exactly how things have played out. The team has grown enormously. If we look back to Saltex 2019, there were probably eight or ten of us, but we are already approaching thirty employees with a plan to double that inside the next twelve months. We design and develop here, we manufacture here, we test and demonstrate here, all of our future pipeline comes from here…and that all brings with it a requirement for more space”.

GroundWOW are also entering an active schedule of exhibition and conference events as part of further revealing their technology to the world of sport. GroundWOW attended Leaders Week at Twickenham in October and as well as Saltex in November, will attend and present at Stadium Business Summit at Emirates Old Trafford in December. “It’s all part of what we consider the missionary work – taking a new technology to an expectant market and walking through how it works in such a breadth of use-cases” added Pritchard.

“Internationally, we have been hamstrung like everybody else by the inability to travel and so we are thrilled to finally be planning trips to the Middle East, South Africa, the U.S, Australia and New Zealand. We will certainly be racking up the air miles as we undertake the next phase task of establishing operational bases in these target territories. Beyond sport, our autonomous technology has found application in healthcare and other sectors creating significant hyper growth opportunities. You could definitely say it is a busy time for us at GroundWOW!”.

Launched in October 2019, GroundWOW® was developed with a founding mission to make printing on ground as easy as printing on paper. GroundWOW® SPECIAL FX can print any logo, any size, on any surface. Deployable in under 10 mins, autonomous technology, A.I and an end-to-end Cloud platform combine to create images as accurate as a blade of grass.

GroundWOW and GroundWOW Special FX are trademarks. GroundWOW is a trading name of Micropply Limited.

The Jockey Club and GroundWOW collaboration

The Jockey Club and GroundWOW collaboration: With their vision for British horse racing to be the best in the World, The Jockey Club has taken a significant step in its pursuit of sports technology leadership by embracing artificial intelligence and robotics in its event branding activities.

As part of its delivery for The Festival™ presented by Magners, The Jockey Club commissioned GroundWOW, developers of the world’s first autonomous, full colour ground printer to create a large scale Magners Irish Cider logo in the middle of the world-renowned racecourse.

Carey Weeks, Regional Head of Partnerships South West first pitched the Magners idea to GroundWOW. “We’re always looking for new ways to innovate and drive value for sponsors and event partners. When we heard about GroundWOW being able to print on ground as easily as printing on paper, we wanted to be the first organisation in racing to deploy it”.

Tony Rhoades, Founder and CEO of GroundWOW commented “Live events are often underpinned by their sponsors plus the vision and passion of the organisers. This project instantly aligned with our mission to disrupt the sports sponsorship landscape and the opportunity to work with The Jockey Club and an iconic brand like Magners has been fantastic for the team as well as an honour for me”.

“Storms Ciara, Dennis, Ellen and Jorge on consecutive weekends forced us into a rethink of how we did this” said Weeks, “but we weren’t going to be beaten and GroundWOW stepped up with a contingency to print on artificial turf instead. Their technology tells you they aren’t about conventional thinking and they showed up prepared for any eventuality” continued Weeks.

“We are grateful to the Jockey Club and GroundWOW for offering us this innovative branding opportunity that enhances our presence and stand out at Cheltenham and further cements our role as Presenting Partner of The Festival and Title Sponsor of the Magners Gold Cup. said George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship and PR at C&C Group (owners of Magners Irish Cider)  Deploying technology and finding new ways to establish our association with The Festival among our drinkers fits with the ambition we share with The Jockey Club in our activation of The Festival™ presented by Magners”.

“Compared to current methods, GroundWOW offers unrivalled time and cost savings” said Tony Rhoades, GroundWOW Founder, Chairman and CEO. “GroundWOW customers will be the first in the World to have the power of full colour autonomous AI printing at their disposal for sports sponsorship and advertising applications, delivering compelling executions and unlocking revenue from dormant or underutilized real estate,” continued Rhoades.

“From a practical perspective, our SAAS cloud platform provides permanent ‘up’ time, vast secure image-to-print file conversion plus full client management including the means to remotely prime, operate, and update robots. The GroundWOW SPECIAL FX system even tells the user how much paint is required relative to the surface type which in turn delivers an environmental upside for clients. This is the first of several GroundWOW product innovations geared to drive sponsorship revenue in all sports around the world with a linked augmented reality proposition to come in early 2020” said Rhoades.

The first public outing for GroundWOW was a global reveal at Saltex2019 at the NEC on 30th October. “We always felt the product would be compelling to our target audience but the level of educated interest from world class organisations who understand what we have created has blown us away” said David Pritchard, Chief Commercial Officer. “Our primary target is stadium owner-operators” said Pritchard, “but we have been approached by creative agencies around the globe who see the commercial scope in GroundWOW as well as entities interested in the prospect of one-off creations”.

GroundWOW will be available to view in a purpose-built robot production facility based in the North West of England from January with first customer deliveries scheduled for Q1 2020. Immediate enquires can be made at www.groundwow.com or directly with Commercial Lead david@groundwow.com.
