Explore the world of CRF with ICL at BTME: Located in Hall 2, the ICL Stand (224) will serve as a vibrant hub of knowledge and practical advice, offering attendees a chance to network and enjoy a coffee brewed by expert baristas.

Visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to learn more about the many benefits of using Controlled Release Fertilisers (CRF) and will also be able to pick up a copy of the new ProSelect grass seed brochure in which they can learn about the new and improved mixtures that are ideal for golf courses, sports fields, turf growers and landscape contractors.

ICL has been a long-standing supporter of BIGGA’s Continue to Learn education programme and will be playing a significant role in the 2024 edition. This year, five greenkeepers will embark on the ICL Continue to Learn Scholarship 2024, receiving a generous package of three nights’ hotel accommodation and 15 hours of training and development within the educational programme.

Turf nutrition masterclass

ICL’s Henry Bechelet, Technical Manager UK and Ireland, and Dr Andy Owen, International Technical Manager, will update and upgrade your knowledge on how good nutrition can support healthy turf surfaces and significantly improve your golf course.

What’s in a soil analysis?

For this seminar, Dr Andy Owen & Henry Bechelet explore soil sampling, the interpretation of soil analysis results, and their practical application in annual golf course management.

The power of water: Wetting agent trials and technology

This seminar will detail how golf course managers can utilise the latest wetting agent technology to unlock the power of water for turf management, to provide the best quality playing surface. It will illustrate key findings from the latest in-depth research trials at leading UK golf course venues and independent trial stations carried out by ICL.

BIGGA and ICL reveal scholarship participants: The British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) and Premium Partner ICL have revealed the five participants of the eighth ICL Continue to Learn Scholarship. 

From a remote links course on the north coast of Scotland to a nine-hole championship venue close to central London, the ICL Continue to Learn Scholars for 2024 accurately represent the diverse greenkeeping industry and how anyone can make a great career for themselves by grasping the opportunities made available via BIGGA membership.

The five successful BIGGA members have been invited to attend Continue to Learn at the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition, taking place in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, in January 2024. Continue to Learn is considered the largest learning experience for those in sports turf management outside the United States.

The ICL Continue to Learn Scholars for 2024 are:

  • Chris Hale, deputy course manager, Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club
  • Sam Norman, assistant greenkeeper, Abbey Hill Golf Club
  • Kate Stillwell, course superintendent, West London Golf Centre
  • Jason Norwood, greenkeeper, Reay Golf Club
  • Jamie Caswell, Blue Course supervisor, Frilford Heath Golf Club

To earn an ICL Continue to Learn Scholarship, BIGGA members must demonstrate a commitment to developing their own professional abilities by engaging with BIGGA’s Continuing Professional Development scheme. Whether through in-person learning, reading the association’s monthly journal, Greenkeeper International, or by accessing resources on the association’s website, BIGGA members can enjoy thousands of learning opportunities, all aimed at improving their professional abilities.

Jason Norwood has previously enjoyed success with BIGGA, having been crowned the Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year in 2019 and participating in the The Open Volunteer Support Team and the Future Turf Managers Initiative. The Reay greenkeeper said: “Living in the far north of Scotland, there is a lack of educational events that you would find in other areas of the UK. Being a lone greenkeeper, this proves challenging to get the time away from maintaining the golf course without it impacting the rest of the working week. The ICL Scholarship will enable me to access the best educational event in the greenkeeping calendar.”

Kate Stillwell is course superintendent at West London Golf Centre, a nine-hole championship golf course just five miles from Wembley Stadium. She said: “I feel very fortunate to have been accepted as there is a huge wealth of knowledge to take advantage of at BTME that I can bring back to share with the team. There is huge importance in continuing to educate ourselves on advances in technology, techniques and knowledge within the groundscare industry. There have been contacts I have made for life at BTME and my hope is to carry on sharing and spreading the knowledge, bringing new people into the industry.”

ICL welcomes Lewis Blois as Business Development Manager

ICL welcomes Lewis Blois as Business Development Manager: ICL is delighted to announce the appointment of Lewis Blois to the role of Business Development Manager – Landscape & Industrial for the UK & Ireland.

With over 15 years of experience in UK and Ireland amenity sector, Lewis’ journey started with Agrovista Amenity. He subsequently joined ICL in 2010 as a Technical Area Sales Manager within the T&L business. Lewis eventually ascended to the Key Account Manager role.

Lewis then joined Bayer Environmental Science as the Key Account Manager for Industrial Vegetation Management (IVM) and Rail, where he played a crucial part in launching and managing iconic brands including Roundup, Ecoplug Max, and Valdor Flex/Lockstar. His responsibilities also extended to managing key amenity distributors in IVM and Turf.

Before rejoining ICL, Lewis built on his expertise at Barenbrug as the Technical and Product Manager for their Amenity business.

On his appointment, Lewis expressed, “I am delighted to re-join the ICL team. My vision is to bolster the success of the Industrial and Landscape business, ensuring ICL remains the top choice for customers in these areas.”

Ryan Beck joins ICL

Ryan Beck joins ICL: ICL is delighted to announce the appointment of Ryan Beck as the new Technical Area Sales Manager, covering Scotland.

Ryan brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, having spent several years in the turf industry, making him a valuable addition to the ICL team.

Ryan’s journey in the turf industry began at Broomieknowe Golf Club, where he worked as a greenkeeper. He then joined The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (Muirfield). Ryan’s career progressed to the position of Head Greenkeeper at Melville Golf Club.

Drawing from his vast experience as a greenkeeper, Ryan later transitioned to the trade side of the industry with Fleet Line Markers and then Aitkens.

In his new role as the Technical Area Sales Manager for Scotland, Ryan will be responsible for overseeing sales activities, building and maintaining relationships with clients, and providing expert guidance on ICL’s range of innovative turf solutions.

“I am excited to be joining such a high-profile company and market leader in ICL,” Ryan expressed. “I look forward to meeting customers and relish the opportunities that this role offers.”
