New Sales Manager signal Wildwood’s ambitious plan

New Sales Manager signal Wildwood’s ambitious plan: James Bastian, managing director of Winchester-based groundcare company Wildwood Machinery, says that the appointment of new Sales Manager, Rob Hogarth signals the company’s ambition to expand in geographic coverage and client sectors in 2025.

“This year, we’ve made significant progress in developing Wildwood Machinery with the goal of being the leading supplier of groundcare services in the South of England.”

“Our deal with leading machinery supplier INFINICUT®, our new, purpose-built headquarters, and the appointment of Rob Hogarth give us the platform to build further business with professional sports clubs, local authorities, schools and heritage properties,” says James.

Rob Hogarth brings 40 years of experience.

Wildwood Machinery’s newly-appointed Sales Manager, Rob Hogarth brings 25 years of experience working for golf clubs across the UK, including the prestigious Remedy Oak Golf Club in Dorset where he was responsible for the ‘grow-in’ of the new course.

Rob’s priorities at Wildwood will be to drive sales of groundcare equipment and after-sales service, and to build relationships with other suitable equipment manufacturers and clients.

Rob started his greenkeeping career at his home town golf club in Peebles, rising to Head Greenkeeper at the tender age of 19 – the youngest in Scotland at the time. In 2016, Rob moved into sales, taking a Dubai-based opportunity to work across the GULF region, before returning to the UK in 2019 to work for Fairways Professional Groundcare as Sales Manager for Scotland.

“I’m very excited to be joining James and the team at Wildwood, and I’m looking forward to getting out to meet a lot of old faces and hopefully making a lot of new friendships,” says Rob.

“Wildwood Machinery has rapidly established a positive reputation since launching in 2022, and there is so much potential to build the business further with the foundations that James and his team have put in place.”

Rob Hogarth can be contacted on 07349 124 926 and rob@wildwoodmachinery.com

Reesink’s new Area Sales Manager appointed

Reesink’s new Area Sales Manager appointed: Nick Gardener is delighted to join the Reesink team as the new Area Sales Manager for Shropshire and Staffordshire, bringing invaluable experience from the greenkeeping world.

Before answering Reesink’s call, Nick, a former tour player, earned his certifications as an apprentice greenkeeper at Broadway Golf Club in 2015, worked as Area Sales Manager with Tallis Amos and became Head Greenkeeper at the Heythrop Park Golf Club.

“What attracted me to this industry as an ex-greenkeeper was meeting the people who use our tools on the ground every day,” Nick explains. “It allows me to learn from them and help them further enhance their golf course, sports or commercial business for the future, especially with premium products and solutions like Toro.”

Mentioning his passion for the brand he continues: “When I first started as a greenkeeper we had Toro products and I used to go to Reesink for training, so it feels a bit like I’ve gone full circle, in a good way. It’s a dream come true, really.”

Beginning his new role, Nick is eager to support turfcare professionals and strengthen Reesink’s presence in Shropshire and Staffordshire – and through this appointment, the company now offers full service and training for Toro machines in the area.

“By going to customers directly, we can guarantee a great standard of care, giving precise and straightforward answers whenever a client needs our advice. Being the sole distributor of Toro commercial and grounds products in the UK, we can provide access to experienced product specialists and genuine Toro parts right on your doorstep. At the end of the day, it’s about first-class service.”

As a former Head Greenkeeper, Nick will also be looking to develop existing and new relationships in the area through open days where turfcare professionals can see new Toro machines up close and freely discuss future plans.

Among many priorities, Nick looks forward to helping sports, commercial and turf managers deliver more value, improve efficiency and gain more time for planning their turfcare programme. For instance, he believes automated mowers and sprayer technologies can empower turfcare professionals to achieve more with less: “I think automation is going to be a very good thing, enabling course managers to get off mowers and refine their broader turfcare health strategy.”

“This way, we can close the gap between the standards of British and American golf courses, which on average have higher budgets and more manpower,” Nick continues. “With enhanced greenkeeping knowledge, automated power and more reliable equipment, we can narrow that gap and take the quality of our golf courses to an even higher level.”

Nick is only a phone call away and he’s happy to drop by to have a conversation in person about your turfcare needs. You can find him at 07425 757 386 or nicholas.gardener@reesinkuk.co.uk.

After completing his NVQ Level 2 in Land Based Service Engineering at Myerscough College, Ben jumped straight into his first role with Balmers GM Ltd – where he stayed for the duration of his working career prior to joining INFINICUT® in April 2024. Starting out in a service technician role, Ben made the transition to Sales Representative in 2017 where he used his technical know-how to develop productive client relationships and drive sales across the Balmers GM groundcare portfolio. It was also during this time that Ben became well-versed with the INFINICUT® golf and sports turf ranges, with Balmers GM joining the network of approved dealers in 2020.

“I’m really pleased to be embarking on the next chapter of my career with the INFINICUT® team” Ben says. “Their market-leading pedestrian mower range is innovative and well-respected with professionals across the sporting spectrum, something I witnessed first-hand with the breadth of venues I had the pleasure of visiting during my time at Balmers and already since starting in my new role. With more exciting developments in the pipeline, it feels like an incredibly exciting time to join and I look forward to working alongside our dealers to support customers old and new.”

Also commenting, INFINICUT® Sales Manager Alan Jack added, “Ben’s enthusiasm and understanding of the industry will undoubtedly bring benefit to our customers in Wales, and in the area north of Birmingham up to the Scottish Borders. He joins just in time for the hectic summer season and has well and truly hit the ground running!”

When not running around selling mowers, Ben can often be found literally pounding the pavements and successfully completed the London Marathon in 2023 raising over £5000 for Hospice UK. Besides running, Ben is a keen sports fan and particularly enjoys a day out at the horse racing.

Ben can be contacted on 07385 149551, or via email at ben.cook@sbdinc.com

Former Leyland Golf Club course manager joins BIGGA team

Former Leyland Golf Club course manager joins BIGGA team: The British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) has appointed Scott Reeves as Head of Membership, overseeing the development of the association’s membership activities.

Scott, 53, was formerly the course manager at Leyland Golf Club, where he spent 17 years. He began his greenkeeping career at Wycombe Heights Golf Club, Buckinghamshire, followed by spells at Stock Brook Country Club in Essex and Chobham Golf Club in Surrey, before relocating to Lancashire in 2003. He spent three years at Preston Golf Club before a one-year stint with Saxon Industries in a sales role. He then returned to course management at Leyland Golf Club in 2007.

Scott has volunteered at every level of BIGGA, culminating in his appointment as chairperson of the association in 2019. The COVID pandemic hit during Scott’s term and he worked closely alongside BIGGA CEO Jim Croxton, the BIGGA staff and National Board as the association navigated the turbulence of that period, ensuring BIGGA was well-placed to offer support and guidance wherever required.

Following his term as chairperson, Scott retained an involvement with BIGGA and still lectures on the Golf Club Management Diploma, jointly run by the GCMA, PGA and BIGGA. He was also a part of the Committee for Golf Club Salaries for many years.

Following a recent restructure, the Head of Membership position has been created by BIGGA. Scott will be responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of the association’s membership strategy, as well as taking on a senior leadership role within the organisation. He will work closely with all BIGGA departments to ensure the association is fulfilling its responsibility to members, while seeking to evolve BIGGA’s activities and offering.

Scott said: “What attracted me to this job is it is such a huge opportunity. One of the things I really valued in my time as a greenkeeper volunteer with BIGGA was the chance to make the world a better place for greenkeepers, as we always say. With a little time away, focusing on my own job as a greenkeeper, it’s helped me see just what a valuable resource BIGGA is.

“What I’d say to BIGGA members is that another one of us has joined the association. I’m someone who understands you and understands your challenges as I’ve faced many of them myself. We’re here to help you, to serve you and to make sure that you can access everything BIGGA has to offer, to build a better career for yourself and a stronger industry for everyone.”

BIGGA CEO Jim Croxton said: “We worked hard to identify the correct candidate for this position and we put all the applicants through rigorous testing as the Head of Membership will play a key role in shaping the future of the association for years to come.

“We had some outstanding applications but Scott’s passion for greenkeeping and belief in the value BIGGA brings to the industry shone through. He has been involved with committee work at all levels, including chairing the association from 2019 to 2022, a period which included the COVID pandemic and was therefore one of the most challenging of any in our history.

“I’m excited that Scott has joined the Association and look forward to embarking on what I believe is the next chapter in BIGGA’s history.”

A video of Scott discussing his new role and ambitions for the future is available to watch online here.
