The purrfect roller mower?

The purrfect roller mower?: Occasionally there is a breakthrough, an innovation that makes a real impact on the way we do things. Listening to what people say they need, taking a tried and tested concept, tailoring it to demand and making it a reality often creates a real leap forward. Such is the new Wessex CRX-320 golf course and sports turf roller mower. Well, it’s just a mower you might say, but look closely and you’ll find the most nimble, smooth, ground hugging Wessex machine so far. Wessex describe it as the machine you’ve been asking for and certainly when it was launched to dealers in February 2018 they were more than excited by the concept. Now it’s available for demonstrations from May onwards and it’s suggested you book your slot now to see it in action.

Manufactured in Wessex’ own factory in the UK the CRX-320 is an exceptional mowing experience. Full width rollers front and rear and 3.2m wide, it’s nothing short of a precision cut and outstanding stripe. Keeping the rollers as close as possible maximises ground contour following, with excellent floating capabilities to closely hug the undulations. The renowned CRX swing tip Gold Cut blades give you the superb cut and make for easy maintenance, while the wide-angle PTO gives you tight-turn capabilities for increased manoeuvrability. All you need is a 35hp tractor and only one spool valve, which makes it economical to operate with the simplest machinery. Simple too is the belt tension for quick and easy maintenance and the cutting height adjustment, between 10mm and 100mm, is equally straightforward. Minimal and easy access grease points and shrouded PTO’s equate to long service intervals.

Consider all the options and it’s easy to see why the CRX-320 is the optimum preference for the golf course. You use your tractor and therefore potentially halve the price compared to a self-propelled machine. The wide cut width is a massive time saver and you don’t have to worry about tyre marks. The CRX-320 is also made road-going with an optional highway kit for road-legal towing, so you can easily move from place to place. And with a 3-year warranty, what more could you ask for? If you think of something Wessex are always listening. The testimony to that is in the build quality, with 5mm steel plate decks making this mower robust and durable, and the aforementioned features that make the CRX-320 the perfect choice for maintaining your golf course or sports turf. You could even say it purrs.

Allett At The Mower Shop

Allett At The Mower Shop: It’s been almost thirty years since Steve Bartle set up The Mower Shop and over twenty years of which the company has been an Allett Mower dealer.

The dealership based in Northamptonshire is the largest of its kind in the Midlands and is just a hop off the M1 Motorway at Watford Gap.  Catering for both the domestic and professional turfcare markets, The Mower Shop has seen the natural progression from selling the old Bosch Suffolk Punch to the superior Allett version for today’s consumer. The bigger Allett machines are sold to customers with large houses and gardens, and private estates. The business has grown vastly over the years, now with ten staff, but prides itself on still providing a personal service.

On the sports side, sales of Allett machines are made for use on bowling greens, cricket and football pitches, complementing the professional services The Mower Shop offers for larger mowers.

Allett At The Mower Shop

“We have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with Allett,” says Steve, “they are nice people to deal with and their interest doesn’t stop with us. They are keen to know where a mower is going, who the customer is and how they can help ensure the customer experience with their mowers is the best. We’re also keen on the development of battery power and at the moment Allett are the only ones producing cylinder mowers that are battery powered, with their Liberty range.”

Powered by Lithium Ion batteries the Allett Liberty mowers offer the convenience of cordless mowing, low noise and a greener alternative for mowing the lawn. There are currently three Allett battery mowers, two of which are self-propelled, with cutting widths of 12”, 14”, and 17”. The Liberty 43 takes ALL the cartridges in the Allett range for additional lawncare tasks, making it the most popular in the battery powered range. A fully charged battery allows for up to 600m2 of lawn to be mowed or up to 40 minutes mowing for just a few pennies per charge.

Kubota’s New Ride-On Mower

Kubota’s New Ride-On Mower: Kubota UK’s extensive range of market leading and high performance machinery solutions is expanding with the release of a new professional zero turn ride-on mower.

Designed to meet the ever-changing needs of turf professionals, the ZD1211 offers exceptional quality and performance, combined with easy to complete maintenance.

Kubota's New Ride-On Mower

Engineered to create a superior cut every time, the ZD1211 is equipped with a three-blade, 140 mm deep, 1.5m rear discharge deck, and optional mulching kit. This is combined with Kubota’s unique baffling system, a new technology that has been specifically designed and developed in the UK to maximise mulching performance.

The ZD1211’s innovations go further, with its front axle offering two positions, oscillating or rigid. This allows users to achieve their desired cut easier as the machine adapts to the terrain they’re working with. In the oscillating position, the mower will follow the contours of the ground and in the rigid position, the mower will offer a uniformed cut.

The machine’s front axle is also offset, which means the front wheels are aligned with the return stroke of the blades.  This raises the grass where the wheels have travelled over, then cuts the grass to provide an even cut of excellent quality.

Powered by a three-cylinder Kubota 18.5kw diesel engine, the ZD1211 features HST transmission for smooth responses and easy directional change, including making a zero turn. Its 49-litre fuel load capacity, combined with its low fuel consumption, offers great autonomy, cutting down the time expenditures usually necessary for fuelling.

Operator comfort is another key feature of this machine. Adjustable operating levers and a luxury seat with reinforced suspension and elevated backrest ensure greater productivity whilst minimising fatigue.

For added convenience, routine maintenance of all of its critical parts and functions can be carried out with ease due to the accessible engine hood. The front axle also has the ability to be used as a jack to raise the front of the machine for general maintenance of the mower deck. This includes fitting a mulch kit, changing the blades or cleaning the deck, which can all be achieved with a reduced time scale as no tools are required.

Adrian Langmead, Groundcare Business Development Manager for Kubota UK, said: “This latest generation continues the evolution of Kubota’s commercial mowing solutions. As a business, we are constantly looking at ways to enhance our product and service offering to ensure our end-user customers can do their jobs more productively and efficiently. The ZD1211 delivers the power and durability sought after by all turf professionals, with a mower deck that offers even faster and better cutting performance.”

Groom’s Mower Wedding Entrance

Groom’s Mower Wedding Entrance: Usually, the bridge will make the show-stopping entrance on her wedding day, however one groom from Co Down had a different idea.

Scott Watson has become a social media hit after his unusual wedding day entrance was posted on Facebook.

A greenkeeper by trade, the 23-year-old thought it would be fitting for himself and his groomsmen to make their entrance on the main tool of his trade – a ride-on lawn mower.

And what better soundtrack to accompany the footage than Scott’s favourite song and country music fan favourite, Hit The Diff.

The brilliant footage, taken by the couple’s wedding videographers Formally Casually Video Productions, has racked up more than 100,000 views on Facebook.

Speaking to Belfast Live, the Annahilt native said the entrance was his little input into the special day when he married long-term partner Emma Coulter.

He explained: “I’m a greenkeeper by trade, so lawn mowers and tractors are what I spend my life on, so I thought it would be something different for the big day.

“Emma basically planned the whole wedding and I just said yes to whatever she wanted so this was my one idea that I wanted to do on the day.

“I had seen other videos of boys arriving on tractors and things so I thought the lawn mowers would be something different and with the help of a friend of ours who runs a hire company we were able to get all the lawn mowers the same colour and the vintage tractor in the middle to set things off.”

The couple, who live with their two daughters in Saintfield , married on December 16, but the grand entrance didn’t go completely without a hitch.

Scott added: “Where that wee church is in Inch, it’s down a wee lane so to get the shot of us arriving we drove up to the brow of the hill and turned round to get us coming down.

“But as we reached the top of the hill, a couple of the lawn mowers ran out of petrol so it was a whole session to get them filled up and get us back down to the church.

“I think the reaction [on social media] has been class, it’s mad, Emma can’t believe how many people have watched it, I think the last time we looked it was 104,000, crazy. We haven’t got the full Wedding video yet so we’re excited to see it all together.”
