Pellenc stands out above the rest

Pellenc stands out above the rest: Tony Chalkley, General Manager of D. Horne Services, has explained why he chose Pellenc above other brands of battery-powered equipment.

“For anyone that is considering changing to electric equipment I would certainly recommend Pellenc,” said Tony. “The products have been 100% in every single way.”

  1. Horne Services, based in Girvan on the Ayrshire coast, offers a comprehensive range of external grounds maintenance and management services to a diverse client base which includes sports facilities, housing associations, educational establishments, and the corporate and private sector.

As the company continues to grow in both stature and reputation, Tony believes that it is essential to keep looking to the future and that is where battery-powered technology comes in.

“Over the past six months we’ve been looking for alternatives to our machinery which was using fossil fuels,” said Tony. “It is important to us as a company to be able to promote zero emissions, and there are so many other benefits to using electric equipment.

“We contacted our local Pellenc dealer, which is Agrovista Amenity, and they very kindly setup a demo. We then went away and researched other battery-powered products on the market, but we were so impressed by the demonstration that we felt the Pellenc equipment would be best for us.”

Over recent years, Pellenc has gained market recognition by offering a unique range of ‘zero emission’ battery-powered tools, thanks to the development of Lithium-ion ultra-high-performance batteries.

The extensive Pellenc product range features an impressive portfolio – from chainsaws, pole saws and hedge cutters to grass strimmers, brushcutters, blowers and mowers and Tony claims that the benefits are huge.

“It is important when you are doing grounds maintenance that you look after the customer as best you can,” he said. “We work very close to offices and main buildings, and it is essential to be able to cut grass, strim, and maintain the areas as best we can without disturbing the client. The Pellenc equipment enables us to do this because it is so quiet.

“Another reason for moving over to the Pellenc equipment is because fuel prices are escalating and going through the roof. As a small company we needed to diversify and look for other opportunities to be able to do the job and do it more economically. The savings that we are making compared to fossil fuels, is a significant amount.”

Tony’s Pellenc fleet features Rasion mowers, Helion hedge-cutters, Excelion strimmers and Airion blowers – and he can’t imagine ever switching back to petrol-based machinery.

“These Pellenc tools easily go on for hours on end with a full battery life,” he said. “You don’t get the vibrations, they are lightweight and easy to use, and we’ve never had any issues whatsoever. The difference between this equipment and petrol-based machinery is night and day.”

Pellenc offers an industry leading four-year commercial warranty for all batteries and a three-year warranty for all tools.

Pellenc is distributed exclusively in the UK by Etesia UK.

No weed out of reach

No weed out of reach: Campey Turf Care Systems latest innovation, the AIR Trolly Pack from Dutch manufacturer WeedControl BV brings the hardest to access weeds into reach.

The Honda GX120 motor with compressor powers the LPG/propane 3x15kw hot-air burner head with an adjustable operating temperature between 190°C – 290°C. The small footprint of the trolley and burner means it can easily access hard to reach areas such as around poles, along walls and road edges, under street furniture and in narrow street passages and alleys where weeds consistently grow. The AIR Trolly Pack is also ideal for inner-city areas and the after-treatment of larger weed removal projects.

Flame weeding is a very effective and environmentally friendly way to remove weeds against alternative methods such as potentially harmful herbicides. Most annual and some perennial weeds can be eradicated using a flame that essentially explodes the weeds’ cells, turning them into ash. This ash then mixes with the soil or disperses with no harm to other plants while there is no risk of drift onto other areas, which can be common with chemical applications.

WeedControl has explored all health and safety concerns associated with working with a flame during the development of the product. Special attention was paid to the ease of operation to ensure that any user can safely and easily operate the machine. All WeedControl products are made to meet legal requirements when working in public and private areas and impact the environment as little as possible with a focus on sustainability.

The AIR Trolly Pack can be optionally supplied with a hot-air bin at the front side. This is equipped with a 3x15kW hot-air burner head. For this, the AIR Trolly Pack is modified at the front side for stability.

For more information or a demonstration of the AIR Trolley Pack, contact Campey Turf Care Systems.

Ironing out problems in an post-Winter world

Ironing out problems in an post-Winter world: The early spring can be a challenging time for professional turf managers, particularly in Northern Europe. Shorter days, snow cover, excess rainfall and many other issues including fallen leaves can lead to poor conditions to grow managed amenity turf.

Many of these factors can lead to reduced sunlight being absorbed by the turfgrass leaf blade. In turn, this can lead to a lack of chlorophyll production eventually leading to pale, yellowing of the leaf, know as chlorosis.

One method of reducing the effect of chlorosis is to apply iron to the turfgrass. Iron is essential in the biochemical synthesis of the chlorophyll module, and regular applications during periods of reduced light intensity can help to ensure that the plant continues its necessary chlorophyll production and helps to avoid chlorosis.

Fusion Liquid Fe is our concentrated liquid iron formulation containing 6.5% Fe for application throughout the year, but particularly in cooler, darker weather conditions. Regular applications of Fusion Liquid Fe will stimulate chlorophyll production and help to avoid chlorosis.

By increasing chlorophyll production, Fusion Liquid Fe will help with a  rapid green up of the turfgrass plant, improving aesthetic appearance. This product will offer approximately six weeks of green up without blackening, depending on the prevailing climactic conditions.

This liquid iron product will also help to toughen the sward, offering increases disease resistance, as well as some plant stress relief. The increased disease resistance could be increasingly important at the current time in Northern Europe due to periods of prolonged snow cover.

Big turn out for Ariens at SALTEX

Big turn out for Ariens at SALTEX: AriensCo returned to Saltex this year with several professional zero-turn models from their range, including the new ZENITH 60 mower.

The company says the show was exceptional for its number of visitors to their stand and the quality of the leads taken, which will be passed on to the dealer network. The Ariens zero-turns also drew a great deal of attention from prospective dealers interested in selling both the professional and domestic machines.

Big turn out for Ariens at SALTEX

“We had a large number of dealers come to the stand to talk about the market for zero-turns,” says Ariens Area Sales Manager, Richard Williams, “and end-users and contractors wanting to know about the potential benefits of using the machines. It was the first time we have shown the new Zenith, which is one of the zero-turn mowers we are manufacturing in the UK.” Ariens is the only zero-turn manufacturer in Europe and made the decision to produce a number of models in Britain based on the fast-growing demand experienced over recent years.

“Users are drawn to our zero-turns for their comfort, durability and above all, cost-effectiveness,” says Richard, “their speed and large deck sizes make a very big saving in time and that in-turn contributes substantially to the cost of the machine.” These features and benefits very much apply to the all-new Ariens ZENITH 60 which is designed for the professional who wants everyday use from their mower. It offers commercial-grade features and outstanding performance with its large 152cm (60”) cutter deck and faster ground speed. AriensCo points out that this commercial quality, the durable industry-leading steel frames and high performance apply across the entire Ariens range of zero-turn mowers.

Also on show at Saltex were two new Ariens concept machines. These were very well received, enjoying a great deal of positive feedback from visitors to the Ariens stand. These machines are currently being considered for the European market. Ariens zero-turns are manufactured in their UK plant. The complete range of products, including walk-behind mowers and snow throwers, is sold through approved dealers.
