Only five reasons needed to visit BTME

Only five reasons needed to visit BTME: It will be a record-breaking year for Reesink Turfcare as five new equipment launches from Toro happen at BTME 2024, which seems fitting coinciding with a now 40-year strong partnership, too.

Never has there been so much come at once from Toro, the leading worldwide provider of turf maintenance equipment, and BTME couldn’t be better placed to showcase it all to the industry.

Under wraps until showtime, Reesink will be announcing another mower that removes fuel from the equation and offers the solution to English Premier League guidance for noise generation. For a first glimpse of this brand-new innovation visitors should make their way to stand 622.

Two trusted vehicles for the fine turf market have had an electric makeover. Now Toro’s patent-pending lithium-ion HyperCell batteries power the Workman MDX Lithium. With the same strength and durability that’s always been relied on, this utility vehicle is now essentially maintenance-free.

There’s good news for owners of the popular Toro ProCore 648 or 648s aerator, there’s now an easy transport option. The TransPro 648 is just what’s needed for transporting these aerators around the course. No more long walks between holes this neat trailer has a unique design allowing for quick loading and unloading and easy securing and release of the aerator.

There’s new technology in the form of Toro’s Geolink precision spray system as spraying efficiency and precision coverage of the Toro Multi Pro sprayer reaches new heights thanks to the addition of autonomous functionality. Years in the making as Toro finetuned the technology to deliver the ultimate spraying solution and, according to Reesink, it’s worth the wait.

Completing the line up with a new entry point to market, customers can even add passenger vehicles to their fleet with the arrival of Toro Vista. Now there’s the option for members and guests to experience the smooth ride of a Toro. Available for four, six and eight passengers, this is a quality transport solution.

Jon Cole, turfcare divisional business manager at Reesink, says: “It’s unprecedented the new technology and electric updates we have coming from Toro this year, I’d go far as to say it makes the Reesink stand at BTME unmissable for those interested in new turfcare technologies. It’s a wonderful way to mark 40 years of a successful working partnership.”Also, on stand 622 in hall 6 will be the effective Bio-Circle GT Maxi, to keep parts and machines clean the environmentally friendly way – with no chemicals. From Reesink Hydro-Scapes there will be a selection of irrigation and water aeration solutions from Toro Irrigation, Perrot and Otterbine.

Nearby on stand 636 will be the latest sustainable technology from Reesink e-Vehicles. Award-winning brand STAR EV will show two of its most popular electric Capella Work Machines and the electric, lightweight, optional self-balancing, wide-wheeled scooter from KAASPEED.

Whether you’re heading to the exhibition for the newest golf course machinery or equipment for sports turf maintenance, sustainable technology solutions or advice, Reesink has it all on stands 622 and 636.

Murrayshall visit proves inspirational

Murrayshall visit proves inspirational: Students in Golf Course Management from Scotland’s Rural College based at the Elmwood Campus in Cupar, Fife, were recent visitors to the Murrayshall Country Estate in Perthshire to learn more about the transformation of its two golf courses into US-style challenges.

As part of a vocational training program set up by SRUC to emphasise the importance of the wider ecology of golf course property rather than focus on traditional fine turf areas, a group of ten students and their lecturers spent time with Murrayshall’s Head Greenkeeper Darrin Urquhart and five members of his team to gain some useful insight into the workplace. “It was the first time that the group had been to Murrayshall and we were all impressed by the high standards of turf care being achieved with relatively limited members of staff,” said Ian Butcher MBA, the Program Leader & Senior Lecturer in Golf Course Management at the SRUC’s Elmwood Campus.

“Darrin explained how he and his team are producing surfaces that combined playing quality with presentation, as well as meeting the diverse expectations of club members wanting different levels of difficulty or features from the course. And in additional to the playing areas, they undertake specific developments such as walkways and viewing spots for non-golfers to enjoy. This wider
perspective of the estate as whole was very useful to share with our students and every member of Darrin’s team was on the same page regarding the Murrayshall brand.

“I’ve been fortunate to play Murrayshall before and from a Scottish landscape experience, it’s hard to beat. But with the attention to detail and refinements now being seen, these qualities will only be enhanced into a truly memorable round of golf and a first-class parkland experience in a true Scottish setting,” he added.

According to Darrin Urquhart, who has been at Murrayshall over the past 14 years, the visit also served to give college graduates an insight into the work needed to transform a conventional parkland course into a US-style layout with white sand bunkers, smaller greens and surrounding rough. “They won’t have seen courses like these in this part of Scotland before and it’s one of the distinguishing features that sets Murrayshall apart, so we were really pleased to show them all around,” said Darrin.

The 365-acre Murrayshall estate offers golfers a challenging 18-hole Championship course and the nearby 10-hole Lynedoch course, ideal for those wanZng to play a quick round, or juniors and those new to the game. It also features one of the most picturesque driving ranges in the country.

PSH hosts visit from Canycom

PSH hosts visit from Canycom: While most of the nation recovered from this weekend’s Coronation celebrations on Monday, PSD Groundscare were also celebrating a very special event – a visit from world-class Japanese manufacturer Canycom to their premises in Lancashire.

Canycom President Mr Kaneyuki and Director of International Sales Mr Mori were met by PSD Managing Director Chris Gibson, Director Hilary Gibson, Sales Director Stuart Mercer and many of the team, in their first visit to the UK since launching a partnership with PSD last October.

After an official UK launch at Saltex, the extensive range of ride on brushcutters has been promoted at dealer events across the UK and to customers with national advertising, with the range showcasing again at this year’s event. Since the initial launch both companies have been focused on working closely together to ensure they have machines and after-sales back-up to support the UK dealer network and are both pleased with the progress made so far.

Despite it being a public holiday in the UK, when approached by Canycom about the trip, Managing Director Chris Gibson took the necessary steps to make it happen, saying,

“It was an absolute privilege to welcome both Mr Kaneyuki and Mr Mori to our offices. When we visited them in Japan last October their whole team made us feel incredibly welcome and we were delighted to be able to provide them with the same courtesy.

The visit was a real success as it allowed us the opportunity to update CANYCOM on the UK business and our further plans for a long-term partnership. We were also delighted to receive confirmation of an additional shipment of machines for the 2023 season that will allow us to both support the existing dealers and continue to grow our dealer network”.

Canycom President Mr Kaneyuki commented,

“We would like to thank Chris and his team for making our trip possible and such a warm welcome. We made our visit to gain a better understanding of the UK market and we return to Japan confident that with PSD we can work together as one team to ensure a successful long-term partnership.  We are two nations but we believe we can be a good family”.

PSD has a long-standing track record of expertise in brush cutting solutions and the Canycom range of ride-on brushcutters are perfectly set up for working in UK conditions and both companies are looking forward to what the future holds.

Founded in 1955, Canycom is renowned for the quality and excellence associated with Japanese manufacture. The company has progressed from a specialist in farm tools into a wide range of product categories̶, from agriculture and forestry to brush mowing and construction̶, supplying machinery to many different countries across the world.

PSD Groundscare is the exclusive UK distributor of niche specialist landscaping equipment, with an extensive range of products from market-leading names and innovative manufacturers including Eliet, Grin, Koppl and Stella.

Toro UK dealers visit US Head Office

Toro UK dealers visit US Head Office: Toro U.K. Limited recently took a group of UK dealers to Minnesota, USA, to visit The Toro Company’s global headquarters in Bloomington, and tour one of the company’s manufacturing facilities.

Dealers had the opportunity to tour Toro’s headquarters to see first-hand the vast testing facilities that underpin the quality of our full product portfolio, and visit Toro’s Center for Technology, Research & Innovation. They were shown how Toro utilizes cutting-edge technology in the development of new products. This included experiencing the many applications of Virtual Reality in product development and watching prototype parts being 3D printed.

The group was taken to the Toro manufacturing facility at Windom, Minnesota, where they were able to see zero-turn mowers, snowblowers and specialty equipment manufactured and assembled.   Dealers were impressed by the scale of the operation, and they were able to have a Q&A session with the factory team leaders to better understand how Toro has adapted and managed through the current supply chain issues the industry is facing.

Adding a bit of Minnesota fun alongside business, the dealers had an opportunity to experience full Toro hospitality when they went to watch the Minnesota Twins play the Chicago White Sox.  Enjoying a real American institution on a glorious summer day, the dealers also saw the full Toro fleet in use at the baseball stadium in preparation for the game, before enjoying a drink and the atmosphere.

I was so pleased to be able to take a group of dealers to visit our colleagues in the US, now that Covid travel restrictions have eased,” said Craig Hoare, Sales & Marketing Manager – Toro U.K. Limited. “It was not only a way for us to say thank you to our dealers, but it was also a great opportunity to expose UK Dealers to the extensive infrastructure that backs up the UK operation and to share some of the plans, investment and products coming from Toro in the near future.”

Wimbledon Visit For College Cup Winners

Wimbledon Visit For College Cup Winners: After winning the 2018 SALTEX College Cup, students from Bridgwater and Taunton College in Somerset, recently enjoyed their prize of a behind the scenes tour at The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), Wimbledon.

Simon Cook, Jacob Camplin, Ryan Tate and trainer/assessor Cary Rawlings experienced an unforgettable day when Neil Stubley, the AELTC’s Head of Courts and Horticulture, provided them with an in-depth look at court preparations the week before The Championships, Wimbledon took place.

Wimbledon Visit For College Cup Winners

Sponsored by Ransomes, the competition took place at SALTEX 2018 at the NEC in Birmingham, where the three Bridgwater and Taunton students competed against other UK-based horticultural colleges in an in-depth academic test of turf management knowledge.

Commenting on being involved in this extraordinary opportunity, college student Ryan Tate said: “The experience was really educational. I was very lucky to get to see turf management at the highest tier and I’ll really benefit from it.”

Fellow college student Simon Cook added: “It has been a real eye opener, especially getting the chance to speak to and learn from someone like Neil Stubley.”

“The attention to detail here at Wimbledon is incredible and I feel very lucky to have been here to witness it,” said Jacob Camplin. “We’ll be back at SALTEX this year to defend our title and we’re going for our second win so bring it on!”

Commenting on the SALTEX College Cup, Neil Stubley said: “I was fortunate to be invited to sit on the judging panel at the SALTEX College Cup in 2018 and it was a great experience to see up-and-coming grounds personnel with their key knowledge and their willingness to learn. I’ve enjoyed showcasing what we do to the winning team and explaining the challenges we have to work with to deliver exceptional surfaces for The Championships.”

The Wimbledon tour follows two extraordinary SALTEX College Cup prizes in previous years. In 2017 the winning students were part of the Wembley grounds team at the FA Cup Final and the 2018 winners enjoyed an unforgettable experience of helping with pitch preparations at the 2018 Six Nations Championships at BT Murrayfield Stadium.

Since its launch in 2017, the SALTEX College Cup has grown each year both in size and reputation, and Cary Rawlings believes that even more colleges should enter the competition.

“I can highly recommend the SALTEX College Cup to all colleges that are involved in delivering sports turf. It is a fantastic opportunity for young students to challenge themselves and it provides them with the opportunity to gain experience of delivering a presentation to industry professionals that will set them in good stead for future job interviews.

“It also gives a good overview of the knowledge that your students have taken on-board during their course and also highlights any areas that may need to be revisited.

“We are looking forward to entering again this year and I implore other colleges to participate in this event. It is not every day that your students get the opportunity to experience life behind the scenes at a major sporting event. Once the seed has been planted for something like this it will drive our future custodians of the industry on to bigger and better things.”

All colleges interested in participating in the 2019 SALTEX College Cup should email Dan Prest at dprest@iog.org for more details.

Toro and Reesink are the new 2019 sponsors of the SALTEX College Cup. The 2019 winners’ prize will be a trip to Real Madrid’s Bernabau Stadium.
