To get ready for the big season ahead, major projects have taken place including bunker and path renovations, a new lodge putting green and installation of irrigation. Overseeding work began in autumn 2016 when Johnsons J Fescue was applied to Fairways and Tees while J Nitro Fescue, the ProNitro coated option, was used on the Greens. “We work closely with STRI agronomist Alistair Beggs, and his advice alongside the results in the STRI trial guide determines our selections. At the moment J Fescue is our top choice as we prefer the finer species and as a links course, the drought tolerance of J Fescue is an important factor.”

Rainfall at Princes tends to be minimal, and with a free-draining site, this leads to drought problems. “Last year between the start of July and the middle of September we only had 30mm of rain! We also experience near-constant breeze coming across from the continent which dries out any rainfall we do get pretty quickly.” Sean has found that Johnsons seed mixtures cope very well with the circumstances at hand, but as with all areas of maintenance, it requires constant monitoring and action if needed.

Johnsons has been the seed of choice at Princes since Sean joined in 2009 and this is testament to the results delivered. “We always get good results and with such a big few years ahead for the club, it’s one less thing to worry about. You know it’s going to perform.”

If the Amateur Championships weren’t enough work for Sean and his team they will be hosting the Final Qualifying for The Open for 4 years from 2018!

AVANT UK head to this year’s Plantworx with a host of new innovations and developments to showcase over the three days.

The team will be on hand to assist with both practical demonstrations and a show stand so there will be plenty of opportunities to find out more about the new additions to the extensive range of compact loaders.

Avant has recently had plenty to celebrate after being awarded a highly commended in the Plantworx Awards 2017 – for Innovation in the Environment section.

Said Avant UK Managing Director, Raimo Ala-Korpi: “We were delighted to receive the award from the Plantworx team. It recognises the commitment we have to the environment and ensuring our compact loaders are as environmentally friendly as they can be.”

For the first-time in the UK visitors to the stand will be able to learn more about the new Optidrive™ system which is available on the 700-series loaders. In the new system the amount of hydraulic hoses and fittings has been radically reduced and optimized, where the name Optidrive™ derives from as well.

The principal benefits of the new Optidrive™ are:

10% better performance
60% less hydraulic connections
20% less hoses
Parking brake in rear wheels
Less heat build up
Less engine vibrations in Avant 700 series
Better hydraulic connector system
Better servicing

The Optidrive™ reduces the power loss in the system by up to 1,5 kW, which is roughly 10 % of the total power used in the drive circuit. This means lower fuel consumption, less heat in the hydraulic system and more power for the actual job.

The demonstration arena will include the Avant Electric model, machines with hand drive controls system in medium and large loaders and a fleet of attachments showing the variety of systems available today.

On the show stand there will be a full range of models from the 200 to 700, again all equipped with the many attachments Avant provide.

The stand will provide a large open space to highlight the innovative Avant loaders and accessories with all the models present, ranging in size and functionality, enabling show visitors to find the right model for the job.

This range of tool carriers is extremely user-friendly, making them ideal for the construction market with a choice of some 200 attachments for outstanding on-site adaptability.
