Soil carbon data added to product information: In its drive to lead the industry in providing extensive product information to its customers, British Sugar TOPSOIL is measuring its BS3882:2015-compliant general purpose topsoil, Landscape20, for total soil carbon.

Soil scientists Tim O’Hare Associates have carried out a comprehensive audit of the carbon contained in a typical sample of Landscape20 and will now sample the soil every six months at the point of despatch to monitor its carbon content.

The focus on soil health and its role in mitigating climate change has drawn attention to the levels of carbon that can be stored in soil. In order to give British Sugar TOPSOIL’s customers useful data on Landscape20’s carbon sequestration potential – i.e. its ability to capture and store atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is a major contributor to global warming – Tim O’Hare Associates will be monitoring:

Organic Carbon Stock (tonnes/Ha)
Total Carbon
Soil Organic Carbon
Soil Inorganic Carbon
Soil Organic Matter
Total Nitrogen
Organic Carbon:Nitrogen ratio

National TOPSOIL Manager Andy Spetch said: “We believe this data on the carbon content of Landscape20 topsoil will be particularly useful to housebuilders, developers, and construction and landscaping professionals who need to evidence their approach to delivering environmentally sustainable homes to regulatory and other bodies. All this information is freely accessible and downloadable from our website and customers can call us if they require clarification on the carbon content or any other technical aspect of our products.”

The team at SAGE are working tirelessly in the background to ensure their second event is bigger and better than before. Taking place from 6-7 July at The Three Counties Showground in Malvern, the primary focus of the event this year is to allow for hands-on demonstrations that benefit both exhibitors and event visitors as we provide a platform for industry expertise to be on show.

The worldwide Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on a variety of industries across the globe, including events and business conferences. However, amidst the current wave of the Omicron variant, it is looking ever-likely that Covid-19 is something we are going to have to live with for yet another year.

The safety and wellbeing of exhibitors and guests is the number one priority of the team at SAGE.

“Attendees last year were pleasantly surprised by the space on offer and felt comfortable given the outside circumstances presented by Covid-19, the potential of SAGE is huge. We want to assure all our exhibtiors that SAGE will be a safe event that will allow them to showcase their expertise, products and services to an array of visitors”.

The Worcestershire location has been awarded the ‘We’re Good to Go’ charter mark by VisitEngland, the official tourist board for the region. Therefore, the event is recognised as one that upholds all necessary health and safety guidance to meet the Covid-19 advice set out by leading bodies such as the government and public health officials.

The industry standard mark acts as reassurance for site visitors, showing that adequate protocols are in place to ensure their safety. Processes such as reduced capacity, social distancing policies and increased sanitisation are just some of the ways that The Three Counties Showground has increased its practices in the wake of Covid-19. Confidence is brimming as The Three Counties Winter events teams have welcomed thousands of visitors over the last few months, which is excellent for events to come.
